A Closer Look At Newcastle’s Four Transfer Windows Under Our New Owners – Simply Outstanding

We will look at all four transfer windows since our new owners bought the club in early October 2021.

The January window in 2022 was the first window for the new owners, and at the time we were in grave danger of being relegated.

But during the first window, we brought in Kieran Trippier, £12M, Chris Wood, £25M, Bruno Guimaraes £40M, Dan Burn £13M, and Matt Targett on loan.

There were three defenders brought in to shore up our backline and it worked superbly.

There was a total outlay of about £90M and it was one of the best windows we have had because the side went on to finish 11th in the league with a very decent 49 points.

That was an outstanding achievement by Eddie Howe, the playing staff, the owner, and our fans, who were right behind the club.

The net outlay was about £90M.

Having preserved our status as a Premier League club, in the summer of 2022 we then brought in Matt Targett for £15M, Nick Pope for £10M, Sven Botman for (seems low), and Alexander Isak for £60M.

Only Matt Targett from those four has not been a regular first-team starter, even when he plays really well when given a start.

The net outlay in that window was around £112M.

In the winter of 2023, (January this year) we were well placed and our owners brought in Garang Kuol £0.3M, Anthony Gordon £40M, and Harrison Ashby £3M.

Anthony Gordon has quickly become one of Newcastle’s best players and he epitomizes the undying spirit of our team.

The total outlay was around £13M and seems to show we were restricted in last summer’s window by Financial Fair Play Rules.

And I have assumed that for Jonjo Shelvey and Chris Wood, we received £15M each – sometime – probably last summer – but it’s a pure guess at the fee.

And finally last summer we brought in Sandro Tonali £52M, Harvey Barnes £38M, Tino Lavramento £31M and Southampton’s Lewis Hall, who is on loan for this season and we must buy him for a £28M fee next summer.

What a great player this lad promises to be.

The new outlay last summer was around £104M since we did sell Saint-Maximim for around £23M.

So in four transfer windows, we estimate the net outlay was somewhere around £319M; that’s around £160M in each of the two financial years.

That seems a little high to us – but maybe not.

Well, there you have it – all the transfer deals done so far by our new very savvy owners.

Let us have your comments about this – many thanks.

We definitely spend a few Bob. The team isn’t just based on cheapies like Pope. I think we are about 5th in the spending table but not sure what period that was measured over?

We’ve got one of the highest net spends since the TO since Ashley left the squad pretty much worthless in terms of saleable assets.

Nobody was paying more than £8M for Almiron, Schar £3M, Joelinton £15M tops. The only saleable assists were ASM and Wilson. Fast forward 2 years.

All it took was proper coaching, improved fitness and a terrific team ethic. For that, thank you Eddie. For Eddie, thank you team owners.

    Betty

In an earlier thread you asked if Milan might have known about this betting fiasco, dunno if you saw it but I had previously raised exactly the same question.

If they were aware of this then the club nay well be entitled to recompense if he does get a lengthy ban!

EGB ……… I thought at the time of the transfer that it was very strange for Milan to allow one of their homegrown golden boys to leave….. Very few Italian players of that calibre tend to leave Italy ….
Anyway let’s see …. All will come out in’t wash …

We’ve done a tremendous job on the purchasing side so far – Ashby doesn’t look like he can get into Swansea side at the moment but we’ve already bought Livramento so he may not have much of a future at toon.

I see you appear to be on the Discord Toon Blog; rather than emailing, etc. Dr Ed why not send a personal message to Darnik via that site as he also appears to be on there.

    Whatever you decide, good luck!

Nice work with the numbers Ed. It puts things into perspective when you can see them all in one place like that.
Re Tonali…. He may have been doing some betting but I think like Small World mentioned previously I would put nearly 100% the fact that mafia and money laundering were involved with the illegal sites. I wouldn’t even put it past them that there are those in the police on the inside as well. They may need a few fall guys to take focus away from them and who better than a few that have forsaken their own. It always goes deeper and more entangled and more so in Italy. The bigger fish will not be the ones eaten.

I didn’t think there were rules in football. Just a load of big blokes running at another load of big blokes. Like 80 mins of British Bulldog.
(I was going to say 80 mins of murder ball instead of BB as I was sure I played that when i was younger but when i google it, it just cones up with wheelchair rugby)”

It should be rugby in the first line, not football.
