There’s an exclusive being reported today by Football Insider that Newcastle United are interested in signing Eveton’s 21-year-old center-back Jarrad Branthwaite, who has been capped 4 times by the England U21 side.
The Carlisle-born youngster, who stands 6ft 5ins tall (it must be those hamburgers) has been in fine form for the Toffees this season and looks an excellent defender in the making.
The player started his career at his hometown club Carlisle United (14 games, one goal) before moving to Everton in 2022 and since then has played 25 times for the Toffees with one goal.
He did get playing time on loan at Blackburn (10 games) and PSV last season (36 games – 4 goals)) so he has played 86 games with 7 goals in total.
His contract runs through June 2027, so it will be interesting to see how much Everton want for him in January – if indeed they are willing to sell him at all – but money talks.
Football Insider are reporting that Eddie Howe is a big fan of the center-back.
It looks like the season on loan at PSV last season, where he was a regular starter, did the lad a lot of good.
He has quickly cemented his place in Everton’s starting lineup and has looked solid in the games we have watched.
Football Insider reports that we have been looking for a long-term successor to Fabian Schar, but Branthwaite is left-footed?
However the 21-year-old does have pace, and that’s something that’s missing in our central defense at the moment.
The Football Insiders report that “Howe is eager to do the deal in January, but such an agreement will only be possible if the structure of the transfer is right.”
This is the exact type of young player we should be going after – someone who has shown definite early promise.
And Eddie Howe and his coaching team can make him into a powerful England International defender at Newcastle in a year or two.
Certainly, his physical stature is there, and he’s shown he’s a tough defender at the Toffees.
He would fit right into Newcastle’s defense.
And even Alan Shearer thinks he’s a great prospect, as he had this to say recently on the Premier League website after Everton beat West Ham 1-0 on 29th October:
“Magnificent at the back. Nothing got past him against West Ham.”
What do you think about this?
Comments welcome.
Blog Note:
I have had a number of messages from readers recently complaining about other readers putting out dubious comments. Can you please try to handle these yourselves – I just don’t have the energy or strength to do this, and Neil is no longer involved with the blog – I hope you understand – thanks for your help on this.

Comment #49I was in the Toon Yesterday. Actually went to Alnmouth and Druridge Bay.
Luckily the Rabbits had a meal planned with the Martoons so no visiting of pubs/restaurants there. It was wild and wooly out there especially Alnmouth where the waves were going straight over the breakwater.

Comment #51We definitely need to come together and completely ignore all the WUMS and mackems.
Let’s not give them any air.
Ed is going above and beyond to keep this blog going and we all need to respect that and his wishes.
Disagreements and minor infighting is normal life and expected but these trolls need to be ignored

Comment #53Essex GB, The Schooner, Alnmouth, know it well, my dad used it all the time about 20 years ago, then it was a cracking little pub, he knew loads of the locals their, drinking partners, lol, he used to tell me that it was a very spooky place, hauntings and things moving about etc…, according to the locals. Whether they just told a good tale when they were full of drink is another question. Mr Tuff is maybe right about being a dump now, I,ve never been their for a lot of years, anyway enjoy IF your brave enough, lol. Cheers GWH

Comment #54Do we think the PL sides will vote in favour of a temporary ban on these loans?
I can only see it one way and that’s being voted for.
I’ve laughed tho as I find it hilarious how many rules have been put forward to be changed since the takeover. It’s offit

Comment #57The latest player we are being linked with is Everton’s 21 year old centre back Jarrad Branthwaite. Probably not the kind of big name some are hoping for but from the little I have seen of him he looks decent. Big lad and reasonably pacey.
He does sound like the kind of signing EH might be interested in. Will keep an eye on him more when watching Everton.

Yep enough team will votes for it for it to go through.
The thing is while it pisses me off that they are so slow in closing loopholes/changing rules and we seem to have kicked people into action they need to be careful what the are really voting for….
We will be successful anyway in the end and there will be less ways for other teams to catch up with us.

It’s fairly obvious to me why mate as it’s to slow the growth of the new powerhouse of Newcastle United…
But then I think how far has it got them…?
Well seeing as we are 2 years ahead of schedule then not very 😆
Won’t be long before we are generating really good revenues into the club and each year will only get stronger. This summer will be the biggest we have had for spending so far.

Comment #68Jail Southgate seems to be doing his level best to pi$$ Gordon and Longstaff off. He seems happy to call up youngsters on the back of them being part of Citeh, Chelsea etc and in the meantime, he’s snubbing players who’ve played out of their skin of late.
Would anyone be surprised if Gordon and Longstaff told him to forget them

It will go through as no other club has owners as financially powerful as ours even if other clubs have owner who own or part own other teams in another country we are on a different scale and aside from Citeh everyone else looks at things in only in a “for profit” way so it is an expense for them to try to compete with us.
You might say we are not a threat to Burnley Raj, but we aren’t helping them either so they have no reason to vote against it.
The sponsorship changes went through for a similar reason, Only Citeh didn’t vote against the change because it it would be laughable if they did
Also, since everyone else basically acts as a purely commercial operation they were not in a good position to over inflate sponsorship deals cos it is robbing Peter to pay Paul for them, and most were not sponsored by related parties anyway.
Only a team that thinks they can benefit by a rule not changing would vote against it. That is the reality.

Comment #74They’re also looking to vote in tighter restrictions on linked sponsorship by having clubs submit 3 “quotes” for sponsorship from unrelated companies, I guess, to show that it is fair market value

I look at it like this that not long ago we were one of those and it shows with the turn of fortune any club can prosper so I’d be like why hinder any possible future were it could be in our favour.
Doesn’t matter tho they will get that ruling as we will definitely bring in players from Saudi if we are allowed

Comment #79Jail, possibly due to your happy clappy tendencies, you cant accept criticism of the team , so you have chosen to misinterpret my comments as you please.
It was a woeful performance. We were crap. Correct? It was a woeful effort. That doesn’t mean our physical efforts were woeful.
The main reason we were crap is the injuries and tiredness.
Stop acting the tool, you’re beyond pathetic trying to put the boot in.
