Eddie Howe Gives Positive Injury Update On Two Players – But Key Defender’s Injury Still Surrounded In Mystery

Newcastle United’s head coach Eddie Howe has given a recent update on the injuries to three players.

Two of them are positive on Alexander Isak and Harvey Barnes, but mystery still seems to surround Sven Botman’s injury and it doesn’t seem like the medical staff have accurately identified Botman’s injury.

We had 10 players injured and two banned (Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes) for the 2-0 defeat last time out at Bournemouth.

And we should hopefully get at least Isak and Barnes back for the home game against Chelsea and also Bruno Guimaraes  – after his one-match ban for picking up 5 yellow cards.

We really missed the creativity of Guimaraes in midfield last weekend and we are hoping he doesn’t pick up any injuries while playing for Brazil.

And of course, Almiron is now out with a grade one (slight) tear of his hamstring – one more problem for Howe.

This is what Eddie Howe has said lately about these 3 injuries:

“Alex is doing well,” Howe claimed. “He’s building up his load to make sure he’s robust enough to return. His fitness levels and his groin at the moment, touch wood, feels good.

“He’s on plan to return after the international break.”

“I think he’s (Harvey Barnes) just started running,” “He had to let his bone heal in his toe. Fingers crossed he’s on the right path. He’s probably one who won’t be too far away after the international break.”

“No massive news regarding Sven, he’s been progressing well,”  “He’s been away in Holland getting specialist treatment there.”

“I think he’s back here so I’ll have a chat with him and see how he’s doing. Not to this level but it’s a difficult one because I don’t want to build it up any more than it is.”

“I want to focus on the players who are fit and available because they are good enough.”

23-year-old Botman picked up his knee injury way back on August 27th – that’s 79 days ago – over 11 weeks ago.

He was injured when 10-man Liverpool beat us 2-1 at home, and that injury doesn’t seem to be healing well: so that’s a massive 11 matches the Dutch U21 International has missed for us already this season.

Maybe Newcastle need to invest in some injury specialists like Rafa Benitez did, when he was head coach at Newcastle – it would be worth the money.

What do you think about these injuries – let us know in the comments.

Ed asks us what do we think about employing an injury specialist, I’d have thought we already had one, would it make that much of a difference to what’s happened to us?

    Football, what football?

Oh I’m on the wrong blog.

“There’s an old piano and they play it hot, behind the green door”.

If we get any more injuries I’ll do a Ray Charles medley starting with …

Oh it’s crying time again, another injury,
Another player limps through the doors that chime,
I can tell by the way he’s limping darling,
That it won’t be long before it’s crying time.

    🙂

I’m sure we use medical specialists to investigate the injuries and decide on rehab programme.

Does he mean a specialist in “preventing” injuries?

That’s what we need, a sort of a football mystic Meg who can say “you’re not playing this match because you’ll get injured”. That would fix things. 😉

    JohnJ,

You’re a gentleman and a man that has reacted to a troll that has posted derogatory comments about your wife, most men would, but it’s difficult to react more appropriately when it’s over the internet with such trolls. I know it’s hard, but the best way to deal with this problem is to just ignore this freak of nature troll.

It has said many disgusting things about my wife also but as this thing is so irrelevant it makes no impact to me at all. Please have a rethink on not wanting to post on here, as Ed has his battles and doesn’t have the energy to deal with this troll. We can though and that is by totally ignoring the freak. I hope to see you posting again on here sometime soon. You’re one of the good guys and would be a huge miss if you decided to not post at all due to an irrelevant, freak of nature troll that clearly has no place in humanity. Just think though mate, life and karma always catch up with this sort of creature.

JohnJ Please Don’t Go charted back in the day with a young Van M fronting Them.

And back in the day, we could see Them and The Animals/ Alan Price Combo doing their versions of said song, whether at the Agogo or the Downbeat. And in addition, Muddy Waters’ll have sang it at the Agogo.

See how people were thinking of you back in the late 60s? Now take notice!

I think our injuries will be in a much better place/shape after the international break…

We will get through to January and NUFC will act accordingly in the January transfer window. I’m sure they will bring in 3 top end players: a young RCB (Braithwaite of Everton), a top MF general, a striker who can play across the front 3. If we spend big on those 3 positions and players come back from injury we will be able to kick on in the second half of the season.

Stories of Botman and Burn out for the season are well off the mark IMO. However, if they’re then I’d expect NUFC to be bring in 4 players in January. We shall see, but I believe 3 is all we will need maximum.
