The Sun are reporting today that Newcastle may well splash the cash in January and are looking seriously at Sporting Lisbon defender (center-back) Ousmane Diomande.
The 19-year-old 6ft 3ins center-back already has one cap for the Ivory Coast and looks like a great player in the making.
The Newcastle scouts have been watching the young defender several times this season and are said to be very impressed.
The Sun reports that the latest scouting trip came only last weekend when Sporting were beaten 2-1 by Benfica.
The young Diomande played the whole game and has played 16 times this season for Sporting Lisbon with two goals.
He was transferred from Danish club Midtjylland to Sporting Lisbon on 31st January 2023, for a fee of €7.5M (£6.5M), and signed a four-year contract until 2027.
So if a deal can be made with Sporting in January, the famous Portuguese club stand to make an enormous profit on the player.
Since making his debut for Sporting back in February of this year he has been a regular starter with 33 goals, 3 goals, and one assist.
He played the full game last weekend against Benfica.
However, TEAMtalk has reported that Sporting will not entertain a January sale for their top teenager, and have a release clause of something like £70M in his contract.
That’s for a player they signed for £6.5M only 10 months ago?
Newcastle presumably would need to pay the full release clause to get him in January, but they will not do that.
What Newcastle will probably so is propose a well-structured deal where they pay a lot of monetary add-ons depending on how Diomande does on Tyneside.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea have shown interest in Diomande, with reports the Gunners have already spoken with his agents at Prospect Global. about a possible move to the Emirates.
The best chance Newcastle could have is to try to sign him in January since Arsenal are only looking at a move this summer for the talented Ivory Coast International.
As for his International career Wikipedia reports that Diomande was called up to the Ivory Coast national team for a set of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches in September 2023, and he made his debut in a 1–0 win over Lesotho on 9 September 2023.
This lad looks like a future star, and since we have only recently been linked with an interest in 21-year-old Everton center-back Jarrad Branthwaite, we are certainly looking at some top young central defenders.
And that’s exactly how it should be.
What do you think about this?

How`s it going with the puppy training mate, and do you have another dog, was thinking seriously of getting a young pup myself, although it could seriously restrict my independence and freedom. In the past back in the day we have had 3 German Shepherd`s at different times, if i ever get another dog it will be a choice between a German Shepard, or a Rough Collie my two favourite dogs mate.

Comment #82Its not just the lack of running power that has proved shite over past few games its the technical ability of the team. If we are pressed away from home we cough the ball up.
If we want to eventually compete with Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and champions league teams we have to buy more Bruno’s, Gordons and Tonali’s, players who can keep the ball under pressure. Its how your players can have a rest.
West Ham away 2nd half we started to look a proper team. Too much since Botman got injured we have looked a bit Brucey. Defend deep and cross yer fingers. Sean aint no England player by the way.

Comment #83Don’t agree with your assessment at all ctt, the technical ability of the team has been severely affected by the amount of players missing. Take Robertson, VVD, Szoboszlai, Salah, Jota, Nunez, Gakpo, Macallistar out of that Lpool team and see how their performances match up to a full strength team.

Reckon all of those Liverpool players would start for us. Put Botman, Tripps, Bruno, Gordon and Isak to those you have named and you may have treble winners.
We carry the odd player who is pretty shit when pressed, and that includes, Sean, Miggy, Murphy, Burn, Lascelles. Wilson’s touch is shite at times an all.
Ive said before that these players have been great and cannot be faulted for effort but we need to buy grafters with the necessary technical ability, its the only way Eddie will
Keep his job.
Cant keep producing miracles with Brucy’s boys.

Comment #85Especially when Eddie himself seems to expect more.
Think he has massively over achieved with some of his players playing well above their ceiling. Its his brilliant coaching and effort put in by players that has got us this far.
Tonali being suspended is an horrific blow, he now need to find another and get Willock firing again. We will be ok if he can sort it out.

I’m afraid my niece is taking my ticket for Chelsea. She’s at Durham Uni. If that chances I’ll come back to you. I’d need to add you to my friends and family to transfer it. I’d happily do that for others on the blog if there are matches I know I can’t get to, but I normally have takers from my immediate family. If there are no takers though I’d happily offer them up on here.

Comment #87I see Howard Webb supported the VAR on Gordon’s goal and also said Havertz should have been sent off. 🙂

Comment #90I just would like to say a massive thanks to all the poster who have made positive comments on my behalf. I’m very touched!
I’ve always been an up front honest kind of guy but when push comes to shove – I’ll be there…. If you want a good guy in the then trenches it’s me!
I’m posting this as a thanks to all the folk who have spoken up on my behalf!
The Animals were in my time as were The Beatles (In those days the Animals were The Alan Price Combo) and I recall seeing them a lot at “The Downbeat” in Carliol Sqare back in the day. It was a den of iniquity but I kept my head below the parapet 🙂 House of the Rising Sun was a favourite of mine.
Magic
I used to have a Rough Collie called Laddie he was an amazing dog and just as intelligent as Lassie who used to be on the TV. I still have a picture of him on my mobile screen – he was simply Magic!

Comment #93It is awful when a long standing poster and wonderful human being like JohnJ decides to leave/lurk.
I have had the pleasure of meeting JohnJ and he is great guy.
I know we should ignore the troll, but you have to wonder what his end game is?
What does he really expect to achieve or gain?
There is nothing to gain really when you think about it. He is the loser here.
End of story.
