This South American Midfielder May Be A Good Acquisition For Newcastle In January

Since Sandro Tanali was banned from playing for Newcastle for 10 months, we have covered several potential central midfield signings to replace since then – loan or permanent.

But one we haven’t covered is Atalanta’s 24-year-old Brazilian U20 midfielder Ederson, as a potential replacement for Sandro Tonali.

TuttoMercatoWeb have now reported that Newcastle are indeed interested in Ederson.

We know we have to bring in at least one central midfielder to cope with the absence of Sandro Tonali but we would like to see it be a long-term deal as well as filling in for Tonali for this season.

Here is a translation of some of the Tuttomercatoweb article:

“Newcastle are after Ederson and for Atalanta, the valuation is (at least) €40M (note – that’s about £35M).”

“The Brazilian’s excellent performances have attracted the attention of some big clubs. In particular, there is Newcastle, orphaned by Tonali, who are very interested in signing him”

“Atalanta, after all, paid around €15M for him plus Lovato’s price tag, valued at €11M (€26M in total).”

“Therefore, it is also difficult to think that, after a good period, the Nerazzurri might not want to make money from it.”

“In January, unless there are crazy offers, Ederson will not leave.”

Ederson has played 53 times for Atalanta with 6 goals and 2 assists and he has a single cap for the Brazil U20 side.

So if the Newcastle hierarchy think that Ederson is the right central midfield player to come in during January, we can get him for around £35M, and probably less than that.

We are sure Sporting Director Dan Ashworth and his team have been doing their homework, as to which player would be the best acquisition in January to replace Tonali.

But as well as bringing in a central midfielder to plug the gap caused by Sandro Tonali’s ban, we will need at least three more players.

Our injuries have reached a crisis point, and we hope to get maybe 3 players back before the Chelsea game at home on November 25th.

What do you think?

Sadly, it’s the FA, PL to blame here, as per.
They absolutely refuse to align themselves with every other league/country in the world, it’s the only thing they do, consistently!
They refuse ti stick to ‘their’ own rules, new rules, uefa and fifa edicts.
    What is their problem?
“Oh! We’re doing it slightly different, ‘cos we’re exceptional!”
Their vaguery causes ALL of the problems.
They are not fit to govern!
This is what ya get with self-appointed fools that make it up as they go!
    Insanity!
    😀

I wonder if Graeme Potter is just hanging about waiting to see what happens with Southgate and tge Euro’s, he can definitely afford to.

Because Dummett and Lascelles train with the squad every day and so are kept fit, kept up to date with the tactics, gelling with the squad and the manager can see their performances daily.

England set up isn’t like that. Makes far more sense for Dummett and Lascelles to be ready to slot in, rather than Phillips every couple of months for England. Don’t think they’re realistically comparable.

I know we disagree on this so we’ll end up going round in circles haha You think he should based on England performances which is fine, even though i’d say he never really stands out much for England either. I don’t think he should be in there if he isn’t playing regularly and in good form.

    Agree to disagree.

Lesh, I forgot “the Cavendish” and in Shields “La Strada”.

I worked at weekends for Ronnie Markham, who ran “Change Is” for Bob Monkhouse, and actually saw Bob Monkhouse do his stand up routine at the Latino. Very rude, not the tv image!! 😀

Sandford Goudie who owned La Strada in Shields and Sunderland was joint MD of Be Modern Ltd who made Kitchens and Fire Surrounds, and I worked for him for 2 years in mid 70’s.

I guess that you wanting KP fits with your desire to see us play with a DM, ie go defensive?
    Safety first, kinda thing?
    5-7 at the back?
It just clogs up the defense, creates problems, and makes for a less flexible team, taking from our attack.
    Too cautious for me, like.
There are the odd moments where any team needs to defend in numbers, but not as a rule. Usually, setting up too defensively brings the opposition on to you.

    Cool mate.

Again, i think you’ve nailed it, yet again.
When we consider who KP has played against, for england.
Half the time it’s dead rubber’s, minnows, meaningless ‘friendlies’.
    Hardly a glowing report!

    Agree re: potter.
    He’s nailed on, isn’t he?
If it goes wrong his career’s way off the track, if it goes well, he’ll leave england in the lurch, a la bha?

Those questioning our tactics or style of play are just bonkers.

Jail is right on this point, we’ve lost a couple of games because of 10 x injuries and suspensions + a heavy workload leaving a threadbare squad simply “knackered”. – end of.

There was nothing wrong with our style or tactics when we were beating PSG 4-1 or ManU 3-0, or Aston Villa 5-1 or SheffU 8-0.

There’s nowt wrong now either that getting a few bodies back won’t fix.

I’d rather we didn’t sign KP but totally happy with it if the board decide to go with him. My choice, McTominay is one of those die hard Mancs that never wants to leave and when they do are shite, I think he’s off the shopping list.

It’s amazing the overreaction after a loss!

It’s the same behaviour we all condemn and laugh at when arteta, manu et al do it after losing.
    Shit happens!
