Oh No – More Bad News On The Injury Front For Newcastle

Some additional bad news on Newcaste’s injury front today.

We already have 10 first-team players injured and the Telegraph (Luke Edwards) is now reporting that Callum Wilson’s hamstring injury could keep him out of the side for 6 weeks – that’s until the end of the year, and we still have 10 games to play.

And Sven Botman’s knee injury has not responded to treatment, and that could mean an operation is needed which will keep him out an additional 3 months.

He picked up his knee in jury was back in August.

This is not good news for Newcastle.

And something we haven’t heard before is that Newcastle talisman Sean Longstaff has a swollen ankle, and is now a doubt for our next game at home to Chelsea on Saturday, November 25th.

We do know that Alexander Isak should be fit for our next game and that Harvey Baranes is close to be able o play for Newcastle again.

The other good news is that Almiron only has a grade one tear of his right hamstring, so that should take two to three weeks to heal.

But the 10 games we have until the end of the year could negatively affect both our League Cup and Premier League situation.

We’re quite sure the owners are working to bring in new players – hopefully early in January – and we need around four players who can come in and produce the goods very quickly at Newcastle.

It’s much like the situation two years ago when we were fighting relegation.

Now we are trying to win the League (Carabao) Cup and finish in the top four in the Premier Leage, for the second season running.

But this is not good news today.

We need a striker who can stay fit. Eddie knows that Wilson can’t play every game, even when he’s banging in goals every time he plays. Wilson believes he should always be picked, but he seems to forget his own injury record. We’ve spent £300m since the takeover in 2 years on new players. I reckon we need to spend another £300m in the next few years to replace some of our older players. Let’s hope we can afford it from an FFP perspective.

    Hey lads

I was an original member on this blog back in the late 2000s but ended up moving to the dark side of twitter like a lot of people.

I’ve closed my ‘X’ account down now though as there are far too many trolls on there these days its an absolute joke.

    Great to meet everyone.

Anyone else used to be on here from late 2000s?

My name was Bobby Robson then but I don’t have access to my old email account since moving to Melbourne.

As for the state of the toon at the moment, what a turnaround and such an amazing time to be part of the fanbase.

Unbelieve really when you think of where we were 2 or so years ago.

Obviously, it’s a pretty tough time because of the injuries but if we just ride this wave and stay within 10 or so points we can pull it back in the second half of the season.

When we have close to full team i think we’re 2nd/3rd best team so let’s see what happens.

New CB,DM and young forward are a must in Jan though.

Welcome back Positive Percy fka Robby Bobson.

Yes all those positions are in need of recruitment. However nobody knows what leeway we have with FFP so whether we manage to get all three is another question. Just trust the owners to do the right thing for our club. Good to see such a positive post at this time of the morning.

Sorry…but with Cal’s injury record, his inability to play every game, unsuitable for every ‘type’ of game/opposition.
We’re effectively operating with 1.5 strikers.
While we absolutely need another forward in, for a year, we’re constrained by the financial situation. Also, we were, and still are to a point, depleted in all areas…of the playing staff, staff and club in general.
So, it’s s process of building, steadily.
It sucks, yet at the same time, rushing out and buying a whole new club is impossible.
It is what it is and we’re headed in the right direction.
It’s just been a very unfortunate series of injuries that we’ll have to overcome…and will!
    Howay the Lads!

Plus, the club bait and doom mongering tgat goes on when england play is ab-so-£&@kin-lutely par for the course, init?

    Keep the faith!

Can’t be good for wor Eddie, wondering whether a serviceable Wilson is going to turn up for work or not!
A company would be looking to recruit if they had a sick note and I think the club will be no different.
Might just have to press the button earlier than planned, FFP permitting and all that.
Dan Ashworth will have contingencies I’d imagine.
3 loans will do, for Botmam, Tonali and Wilson. If they don’t want to go big in Jan they could probably afford decent loan fees and as they’ll be loans might be prepared to go big on wages for the immediate short term.
    Plenty mercenaries out there!

The more I think about it, the more I think we will be looking to sign some sort of striker or versatile attacker in January. We simply can’t keep relying on Wilson given his injury history.

He’s not getting any younger so these injuries will likely get more frequent and have longer lay offs to recover from.

    Uncertain

Reckon extending his contract is a good plan, gives us the opportunity for cashing in on him. He’s proven he can bring goals, no doubt whatsoever…
His hold up play is virtually non existent, tho’.
Even at his age, we could get our money back on him.

I don’t want to claim I told you so but I’ve been saying this about Wilson for two seasons now, we’d have been better selling him for £20M, keeping Wood and spending the money on a striker who could play RW.

One more off the bucket list…

Played a lot of tennis as a young un and after football and golf it’s my next favourite sport.

Always wanted to attend Wimbledon and entered the ballot for the first time this year.

Just got an email that I’ve got two No.1 Court tickets for the Mens/Ladies first round matches.

    Chuffed to bits. 🙂

    On Wilson…

Jail called it right, in hindsight the best option would have been to cash in perhaps at the end of last season.

However, after his goal haul and games to goals ratio last season that would have been a big call. If we’d have signed another ST and he’d bombed if Isak was injured EH would have got pelters.

    But…

This latest hamstring has to be proof that Wilson absolutely cannot be relied upon to have any form of consistent run in the team.

I think we’d be lucky, with his now well established injury record, to get £15-£20M for him. We might have got £25M-£30M in the summer.

I don’t blame EH, he, like most of us, was blindsided by his goals last season and hoped his playing time would be more normal, especially as he would be rotated with Isak.

That hope is now on empty.

    He needs to be replaced.
