We expect the Newcastle owners to plunge into the transfer market in January to help Eddie Howe and his players out in the second half of the season.
Newcastle have gone back to the days of old when we always had the most injuries of any Premier League club.
And that’s true now, with Newcastle having 12 players out including Sandro Tonali with his 10-month ban, and Lewis Hall who is not allowed to play against his old club Chelsea in our next game, on 25th November at home.
The next highest injuries and suspensions in the Premier League are Manchester United and Tottenham with 10 each on the Premier League injury site.
We have both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, our two strikers, out injured now but we expect Isak to be able to return for our next game against the Blues – that is welcome news indeed.
Both of them have a poor injury record at Newcastle, and it would seem to make sense if we brought in an out-and-out striker in January.
Newcastle have been scouting 20-year-old striker Marcos Leonardo, the Brazilian U20 striker who plays for Santos.
And we have reported that the Newcastle recruitment team, led by Sporting Director Dan Ashworth, have already made contact with Santos on a potential deal.
Newcastle United are favorites to sign the young striker and the reports are that we would be prepared to spend £15M to sign the 20-year-old, which is a little below the £20M Santos value their player at.
Real Madrid are also interested in signing the player, and we should expect top clubs going after the our transfer targets since we are now among the big boys.
And Newcastle are much more attractive to new players than we were before our ambitious owners bought the club a couple of years ago for around £300M from the former owner.
That’s even though the weather has not changed in Newcastle.
🙂
And we have made massive strides over the last two years, and Newcastle United are now known globally, as much as we were in the heady days when Sir Bobby Robson and Kevin Keegan managed the club.
Leonardo has scored 21 goals in 45 games for Santos during 2023, and in total he has played 164 games with 54 goals and 11 assists since he made his debut for Santos back in August of 2020.
That’s an excellent record for one so young.
It would seem we should be able come up with the £15M to sign this future superstar in January, and if that’s true it would be £15M (or even £20M) well spent.
What do you think?

Comment #95Overnight Toon update for everyone asleep in the UK.
Bruno played the full 90 for Brazil who lost 2-1 away to Colombia.
He didn’t play great to be honest and lost the ball a fair bit.
Colombia were fouling a lot though and were very physical.
The most annoying part was he got crunched 3-4 times but he didn’t look injured.
Just an annoying game for him to have with our game in 2-3 days.
On the plus side Joelinton didn’t play so he’ll just have the jetlag to contend with.

Comment #104From Nufc.com and Howard Webb’s musings.
Havertz & Guimaraes’ challenges
Incidents 2 & 3:
Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff is brought down by Kai Havertz’s lunging 37th-minute challenge. The arm of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes strikes the side of the head of Arsenal’s Jorginho.
What the match officials did: Referee Stuart Attwell shows a yellow card to Havertz, which the VAR reviews, sticking with the on-field decision. As the on-pitch officials did not see the Guimaraes incident, the VAR reviews but deems it not worthy of a red card.
Webb: “Quite a busy game wasn’t it? A couple of situations, that in the cold-light-of-day analysis that we go through, going forward, we would expect red cards in both of those situations.”
Now for me, if Havertz rightly goes off then the Bruno incident doesn’t happen.

Comment #105Can’t remember the sequence of events after the Havertz “challenge”.
If Bruno reacted after the yellow was shown (instead of a red) then yes he probably wouldn’t have lost it had the dirty fecker been sent off.

Comment #107It still seems to hurt some that the issues I pointed out were correct when they thought stupidly that they had an open field and an open bank account. The la la landers.
As punishment for Arteta he could sit in with the noisiest and talk about being a rock for his wife, the other fellas career details whilst constantly calling other mate.
Mate tennis whilst bigging each other up and CH can come in for more matery. Lovely.

In fairness, did anyone ever actually say or think we could just spend whatever we pleased?
Maybe my memory isn’t that great, but i’m sure most of the comments in that side of the argument, were more along the lines of we’ll be able to spend more than people think and if we want someone we’ll get them. Which you could argue the club have done. We’ve spent a lot and seem to have got our main targets as we won’t just sign people for the sake of it.
I’m sure some fans did think we’d have maybe splashed more, but think 99% of fans realistically knew we’d spend well but it’d take time to truly be able to splash out to our full potential.

Comment #118Adam, it was more in response to the nonsense that ffp wasn’t an issue, when I and others said it was. Abuse was thrown from la la land, but reality has proved my caution correct. Incidentally I didn’t bring up ffp, before I’m accused of it .
Anyway a small matter
Hope all well today, its a Friday, but I have to bring herself to Dublin to hosp. Its routine so hopefully nothing iffy. And the joy of paying a hospital consultant about €200.
