We expect the Newcastle owners to plunge into the transfer market in January to help Eddie Howe and his players out in the second half of the season.
Newcastle have gone back to the days of old when we always had the most injuries of any Premier League club.
And that’s true now, with Newcastle having 12 players out including Sandro Tonali with his 10-month ban, and Lewis Hall who is not allowed to play against his old club Chelsea in our next game, on 25th November at home.
The next highest injuries and suspensions in the Premier League are Manchester United and Tottenham with 10 each on the Premier League injury site.
We have both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, our two strikers, out injured now but we expect Isak to be able to return for our next game against the Blues – that is welcome news indeed.
Both of them have a poor injury record at Newcastle, and it would seem to make sense if we brought in an out-and-out striker in January.
Newcastle have been scouting 20-year-old striker Marcos Leonardo, the Brazilian U20 striker who plays for Santos.
And we have reported that the Newcastle recruitment team, led by Sporting Director Dan Ashworth, have already made contact with Santos on a potential deal.
Newcastle United are favorites to sign the young striker and the reports are that we would be prepared to spend £15M to sign the 20-year-old, which is a little below the £20M Santos value their player at.
Real Madrid are also interested in signing the player, and we should expect top clubs going after the our transfer targets since we are now among the big boys.
And Newcastle are much more attractive to new players than we were before our ambitious owners bought the club a couple of years ago for around £300M from the former owner.
That’s even though the weather has not changed in Newcastle.
🙂
And we have made massive strides over the last two years, and Newcastle United are now known globally, as much as we were in the heady days when Sir Bobby Robson and Kevin Keegan managed the club.
Leonardo has scored 21 goals in 45 games for Santos during 2023, and in total he has played 164 games with 54 goals and 11 assists since he made his debut for Santos back in August of 2020.
That’s an excellent record for one so young.
It would seem we should be able come up with the £15M to sign this future superstar in January, and if that’s true it would be £15M (or even £20M) well spent.
What do you think?

Fair enough, think I get where you’re coming from. Think some fans definitely felt it wouldn’t effect us maybe as much as it has.
Although if it is effecting us, roughly £400m spend since the takeover isn’t exactly too bad if we are being hampered by ffp!

Immediately after the TO I honestly thought it was going to be as simple as throwing £18M a year at Conte etc and buying the Haaland etc, it was established in interviews pretty much immediately that was not to be the case, the hiring of Eales etc pretty much confirmed that we were going to have to do it the correct way.

Comment #127Leonardo Would he get a work permit in UK. Obviously Portugal but he will not have enough points for UK.
Will have to be loaned out and hope he gets a few more international caps.

Comment #128Agree with that Adam. I think one of the finances experts was a bit off beam, because another one was more cautious. Sorry I can’t remember which was which.
Agree with the spend too and hopefully more to come.

Comment #133I’ve never attended a school kids football match as neither of my two play unfortunately, but it’s meant to be murder with certain parents abusing Refs, young players 😮 and other parents. There’s new rules being put in place that will ban abusive parents, I would imagine if they ignore the ban then their kids won’t be allowed to play either.

Comment #134Munster, to be fair I don’t think people were saying you were wrong. I think what they were saying is if we needed to we could get a deal done
eg Isak and Gordon.
What did annoy people (me included as I pulled you up on it at the time) was the constant every day hyperbole about FFP. Anyway as you say you don’t care about what people say or think about you on here so no need to keep dipping that rod in.
Hope you’re wife is OK by the way.

As much as I’d have liked KK as manager again (absolutely no idea how people draw negatives from his second stint, had us playing really good football in the end) I think he’s too out of touch with the modern game now.

Southgate on Gordon;
“He’s a good player,” Southgate said. “He was very good with our Under-21s last year. He’s very close, I have to say.
“I like his attitude, I like the way he works so hard for the team.
“Of course, I’m sure he was hoping to get a call at this moment, but there are good players playing well in that position on the field.”

Comment #140I draw negatives from KK’s second stint because it was never going to work. I don’t believe that Ashley and KK had a progressional and honest discussion about how the club was going to be run. KK probably did what he often does and led with his heart rather than thinking things through. That makes for a good story and it’s fine for how football used to be but doesn’t work any more.
KK just isn’t cut out to be a modern day manager. I’ll always remember his first stint fondly but he should never have come back under Ashley, that combination was never going to work.

Comment #141Ciao. Kevin Keegans passion outweigh most managers tactical knowledge. Sometime passion and desire can beat tactics and technique. Maybe modern coach can help him in staff. Kevin Keegan knows basic in football. I think he would have done well with these new owners. He knows talent

Ashley filled him full of shite which has been proven in court, so yes, Ashley didn’t have an honest discussion.

Comment #143Raj – KK definitely didn’t do his due diligence on Ashley is what I’m saying. It was bad judgment to believe that total knacker. It was also dumb as hell for Ashley to appoint KK knowing full well that he wasn’t going to back him the way KK would expect. Dumb business decision let alone a dumb football decision.
So yeah, I definitely look back at that time negatively. The takeover honeymoon period was over pretty damn quickly…

Comment #144Trequartista10 – considering the lead that Man Utd overhauled us for to win the PL, I’d say you’re totally wrong. The passion and desire that you’re talking about was twisted and taken advantage of by a more calculated and professional manager.

Comment #145A professional and calculated team will beat an equally matched team that relies on passion and drive 8 times out of 10 (note, stats are obviously a generalist and not based on actual research!)
Consider some of the most exciting and passionate players like ASM & HBA. Just think how much more they could have achieved if they had balanced their passion with the right level of professionalism and decision making. Look at some of our current players like Gordon, Trips, and Bruno. They seem to have a fantastic balance.
Adamn_92
Nov 17, 2023 at 11:54 AM
Comment #146Not sure i’d call ASM and HBA passionate to be fair mate haha Both would celebrate well when they scored, but other than that they looked calm, collected and in parts of games unbothered. Both fantastic players but wouldn’t associate them with the word passion.
Not when you see the likes of Bruno, Gordon, Trippier, Burn etc who get the crowd pumped and celebrate tackles etc.

Comment #147Adam – that’s how they came across to me anyway. They seemed to love the game and love performing. I don’t necessarily mean chest beating passion all the time but a passion for the game. Compare them to someone like Bale who had little passion for the game but was a fantastic professional.

Comment #158Utterly disgraceful that Everton’s points deduction is being made this season, a good 2 years after the actual offence. They’d have been relegated last season, but will probably get away with it this season as the 3 promoted teams are so poor. This smacks of being delayed solely for their benefit. Pathetic.
