Newcastle Looking To Offload Winger In January

Winger Ryan Fraser was told to train with the reserves following our 1-1 draw at Howe’s former club Bournemouth and that’s the last we saw of Fraser last season.

He is currently on loan at Southampton, and Newcastle may try to do a permanent deal with the Saints for Fraser in January.

Fraser has no future at Newcastle, and he is said to be on as much as £60K/week wages, so getting Fraser off the wage bill in January would make sense as we expect at least 3 players to be coming in – maybe all on loan – to help with our injury crisis.

From all accounts, Fraser has done well at Southampton with 13 appearances and two goals and Ryan himself would like to make the move on the south coast permanent.

Southampton manager Russell Martin has previously indicated he would be happy to make Fraser’s deal permanent:

We want good players and we want good characters – Ryan definitely fits into that.”

“Knowing Ryan and his capabilities, would he be someone that we want as part of the project here for longer than we have him?”

“Of course, but he has to do enough on the pitch to put himself in a position where everyone feels the same.”

The price mooted for Fraser, who played 59 games for Newcastle with 3 goals and 6 assists is just £4M.

That seems low, but we think Newcastle are more concerned about getting his £3M/year off the wage bill as soon as possible.

Fraser joined Newcastle back in September 2020 and he has 26 caps for Scotland with 4 goals.

Comments welcome.

What a mess over in the blue side of the Mersey, but even if they do lose another 9 points they would still stay up imo.
The 3 promoted teams have won 3 games out of 36 between them, pathetic really.
If anything does relegate them it will be the financial ramifications that will surely cripple the club, a club who haven`t even secured the money to finish their stadium, which apparently is already 6 months behind schedule.

I don’t blame Iron Mike for stepping up to a higher league but Ex Wimbledon, naah, bad choice.

Jail I’m a realist and I say things as I see it. If that means that is negative about the clubi wont shy away from saying it, despite the excitability of some. We were all in on Ekiteke and he seems a bit of an immature gobshite so I’m surprised we are back on, if true, given how big a deal we make of character referencing.

Raj – #43, I totally agree. We’ve got fans wanting Everton penalised extremely and to the point they’re virtually guaranteed to be relegated and there are fans (possibly the same people) who are saying we should just totally ignore FFP and spend whatever we want. Bit bizarre really…

There’s another one called Babbel but if I remember rightly you have to pay for that one. The way I see it, if a Dutch shelf stacker can speak English then there’s hope for us all 😀

Raj – sorry, I didn’t scroll back so not sure if you saw my post about Wimbledon tickets and the dates you’re looking at. Let me know the dates you want and how many tickets. I used to get opportunities to get them most years. Haven’t kept touch with a few people as much recently though as I mostly stopped playing tennis.

I’m certainly in favour of FFP, and VAR, for that matter. Better to have them than not, I think. It does make the game fairer I believe, but there’s still room for improvement clearly. Can’t have half a dozen clubs first, and daylight second. Everton will feel a little aggrieved. Looks like a combination of bad luck and mismanagement, more so than cheating. City and Chelsea though, must be lookiñg at paying a heftier price. Think in their cases there was some bending of the rules, rather than pushing of the envelope, and they’ve won a lot of silverware, and helped send a lot of sides down over the last twenty years. I don’t want a bar of that at Newcastle.
