Winger Ryan Fraser was told to train with the reserves following our 1-1 draw at Howe’s former club Bournemouth and that’s the last we saw of Fraser last season.
He is currently on loan at Southampton, and Newcastle may try to do a permanent deal with the Saints for Fraser in January.
Fraser has no future at Newcastle, and he is said to be on as much as £60K/week wages, so getting Fraser off the wage bill in January would make sense as we expect at least 3 players to be coming in – maybe all on loan – to help with our injury crisis.
From all accounts, Fraser has done well at Southampton with 13 appearances and two goals and Ryan himself would like to make the move on the south coast permanent.
Southampton manager Russell Martin has previously indicated he would be happy to make Fraser’s deal permanent:
“We want good players and we want good characters – Ryan definitely fits into that.”
“Knowing Ryan and his capabilities, would he be someone that we want as part of the project here for longer than we have him?”
“Of course, but he has to do enough on the pitch to put himself in a position where everyone feels the same.”
The price mooted for Fraser, who played 59 games for Newcastle with 3 goals and 6 assists is just £4M.
That seems low, but we think Newcastle are more concerned about getting his £3M/year off the wage bill as soon as possible.
Fraser joined Newcastle back in September 2020 and he has 26 caps for Scotland with 4 goals.
Comments welcome.

Comment #84You think our match schedule is tough? Tonight Eagles beat Caledonia in Glasgow. 24.25 hours earlier they defeated Plymouth in Newcastle. Next Thursday we play London at the Copperbox. 24.25 hours earlier they play Ljubljana also at the Copperbox. It happens a lot in Basketball. Madness!

The only advantage to cans is they generally contain more of the amber nectar!

Comment #97“”Marcel Bout was recently appointed chief of global scouting at St James’ Park and has made it his mission to find the next Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala.””
I am a bit uneasy about this guy who seems to have presided over a poor few years at ManU. Although, look where they are now and seemingly in trouble. However, I do hope that the use of names as an adverb is just short hand for the qualities required to be an excellent player. How many times have we seen ‘the next Messi’, fail to become a renowned dribbler.

Comment #100I see Krafth was an unused sub in the Bournemouth game, which must mean he is actually in the PL squad. I doubt Eddie will ever set up with five at the back (cue next match) as we have managed to shut down Arsenal with a defensive performance without changing our starting formation.
The argument that discussing formations is reductive and a waste of time, does not recognise that we all use familiar terms as a short cut to topics of conversation. Also, that different teams use alternative formations to set up the basis of the way they play.
Eddie and Jason definitely alter the style of play within games, but using the same framework/formation that they are both comfortable with and consistently utilise with the players in training. I would really like to see an interview where Howe explains this aspect of his methodology more in-depth.

Comment #103Been off the blog a few days, apols if repeating…
I didn’t bother with Eng v Malta game. But not particularly happy that by the looks Trippier played the full game. How about a breather FFS, and a lower chance of yet another injury would be nice.
At least Schar didn’t come off the bench, and neither did Joelinton. Bruno played the full game as well. Theres another intl game coming up in short order though, and they’ve travelled half way round the world though. Selfish motives? Wey aye!

Welcome. We had a family holiday home in Javea for nearly 30 years before my dad sold up a few years back. Brilliant place and I really miss it. The house was on Montgo mountain and every year was a cheap holiday, just had to get our flights. Might still be out there if life had taken a different turn. Do you follow the local team at all?

RH…Cheers for the welcome. I did post the other day under richietoon(thought I’d changed it prior to posting). Been a long time lurker and used to be on .co.uk back in the day when Toonsy ran it.
Couldn’t remember ever posting on here but when I changed my name and Avatar it seems I did a couple of times back in 2010.
Montgo is nice, you should have kept it, be worth a fortune now probably.
I’m the opposite side of town on Cap de la Nao, but can see the Montgo from here.

Interesting point, Eddie definitely has a range / number of plays within his favoured 433 setup.
Pretty sure I’ve read one or more of our players describing having to memorise various tactical formats within the basic framework until it became second nature via practice.
Can’t see Eddie spelling it out for the opposition to study though.

Comment #120Gabriel Obertan, I once described him as a toy robot, one of those that just went backwards and forwards saying I am a robot and other meaninglessrobot sayings. Then one day coming in from school to discover it doing loads of cool stuff like somersaults and climbing walls and ceilings for about two minutes before collapsing in a smoking heap and repeating I am a robot and never working again. He was useless.
