There’s some good news doing the rounds today on the injury front and it’s from the Mail’s Craig Hope on his Twitter (X) account
Here’s the Tweet from Craig that’s caused some good news to finally circulate on Newcastle’s injury plight before we play Chelsea at home next Saturday against Chelsea 3:00pm KO.
?? Some slightly more positive news on the NUFC injury front
?? Sven Botman has progressed well this week. He should avoid surgery IF the knee doesn’t swell again
??????? Sean Longstaff’s ankle is settling quickly but remains a doubt for Chelsea
?? Miguel Almiron & Alexander Isak will be fit
— Craig Hope (@CraigHope_DM) November 18, 2023
Two players – Alexander Isak, and Miggy Almiron will be fit for the home game against Chelsea and we have to think Sean Longstaff has a good chance of being fit.
And of course, Bruno Guimaraes is available after serving his one-match ban against Bournemouth for picking up 5 yellow cards.
Longstaff had a swollen ankle and Miggy Almiron was taken off at Bournemouth after suffering a grade 1 hamstring injury, but at least the experienced 53 times-capped Paraguayan International will be fit for Saturday.
It will also be good to have the talented and impressive Alexander Isak back in the front three.
We are also hoping that Fabian Schar is fit to play on Saturday, after missing Switzerland’s 1-1 with Kosovo, and Longtsaff hopefully has a decent chance to be in the starting lineup on Saturday.
The other very good news is that Sven Botman’s knee injury is now responding to treatment – finally!
If that continues and there is no swelling, it will mean he will not need an operation and therefore could be back much sooner than if surgery is needed.
The Premier League injury site has Sven’s return date down as 2nd December, that’s two weeks on Saturday.
We haven’t had much good news on the injury front recently, but this is some good news and hopefully, more of our injured players will soon be returning.
Comments welcome.

You know my thoughts on FFP, it’s a scam to protect the eight or so super clubs. But in a way it could be there to stop things getting silly, can you imagine if we were allowed to pay Bellingham, Mbappe and Haaland £1M a week each, surely that would completely screw the game.

Comment #10I just can’t see how it’s fair that only a handful of clubs in the world can afford to pay players £350Kpw, of course tge best players will eventually end up there, how is that fair.

Nah mate that’s the wrong attitude
It’s giving them the power to do it to us, it’s not the fans fault
Try thinking if it’s us
It’s just not cricket and I hope Everton win the appeal and get relegated on fair terms

Comment #14Ffp is to stop clubs spending beyond their means, or so they say…what a crock of sh!t.
All it really does is protect the big clubs and stops others like us and Villa from competing with them.
Fair enough if you actually do want to stop clubs going bust but if a wealthy owner wants to spend his own cash then why can’t he? If they’re worried about clubs going into debt then why not ensure that the owner who wants to spend above and beyond what ffp allows has to be the one that owes the debt? If the owner effs off then the debt is his and not the club’s….simples! In my mind at least.

Comment #18I think Kompany is a self centred manager, all very well sticking to your guns in some forlorn noble attempt to play good football, but it’s pure vanity, what about the fans who have to watch them getting humped each week, he’s on a lovely juicy long term deal, how about trying to keep the team up instead of trying to play fancy football.

The fans are rarely to blame for anything but always get the shite filtering down. It’s how it is, always was and always will be.
It’s just that it’s Everton.
Most of the ones I’ve come across are bitter small man syndrome types. A lot has been made of the fact they’ve never been relegated..
But they have been stinking out the league for years.

It really is a croc of sh!t, stop clubs from going bust while possibly sending Everton bust, unfortunately I think they’ll survive but the authorities have no way of knowing that.

Comment #22Much as I dislike Everton and their fans CH is right, what if Ashley has/had done something dodgy while in charge, how many of us would think it unfair if we got docked points now?
At the same time though, I guess there has to be a punishment for breaking the rules.Unfortunately it’s always going to be the club that gets punished whether the ‘dodgy’ owner is still there or not and by extention the fans. It’s sh!t but unfortunately it’s the way it is.

Comment #25Raj…Exactly, they punish clubs who are struggling financially with a financial punishment. It’s a downward spiral from there and one some clubs may not be able to recover from.
The rules in footy are shit in general i.e punishing a gambling addict by giving him 10 months of extra leisure time on full pay rather than giving him as much help as possible.

Comment #28FFP could be easy Raj (?)
Just put a ceiling on a wage bill, and (or) an annual transfer net spend and let EVERY team be allowed to spend up to that amount and not beyond.
Obviously that could lead to clubs getting into debt chasing a dream so only allow them to inject unleveraged cash into a club to subsidise the shortfall in revenues between what a club earns and that top limit of spend, should they wish to do so.
EPL can monitor the money trail so no ‘dirty money’ or leveraged debt is allowed.
No offsetting loans onto the club value (such like Ashley did) all owner subsidies would be purely at the owners risk.
Sponsorships could be capped the same way. But every club allowed the same ceiling (again) of sponsorship .
If clubs have bigger revenues and shirt sales, so what, they just have less for the owner to put in to the pot (subsidise) should they wish to do so.
At the end of the day, all clubs would have the same ceiling, and allowed to have the same ambition.
No club favoured over another.
Obviously the richer clubs would still have an advantage, as the bar would have to be set pretty high initially, as it is already set very high now.
(top players aren’t going to suddenly give up their wages or clubs water down their player values)
But if the bar was set correctly a far greater number of teams would have the opportunity to compete at the highest level.
The Super rich clubs such as us, Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea would obviously be easily able to operate at the top but if the bar is set properly, neither us nor anyone else would be able to monopolise a league based purely on having the MOST money.
ALL the bigger teams will have the same potential / opportunity to be winners.
Tactics, recruitment, and management skills would be key, not so much the money spent.
A fan of every club, would always have the ability to dream … A Jack Walker could live again.
It would be the owners carrying a greater risk not the clubs.
I know it’s still money driven (up to the height of the bar) but it always has been and always will be.
You could make a proviso that say 10% of owner subsidy would automatically go to lower league and grass roots? (That’s £10m on top of every £100m owner injection, going to the lower leagues)
Another that no U21 player can play in the EPL unless coming through that clubs academy, and only since the age of 15?
Most lower league clubs and continental would then be able to keep hold of there best youth product at least to the age of 21 … And therefore get better transfer prices for them if and when they do sell (poached).
Allowing these lower league teams more scope to grow and prosper.
You could have a maximum of players allowed in any one academy, to prevent the bigger clubs from stockpiling and getting past that U21 rule.
You could have a ceiling/bar for every division making them all fairer and competitive.
I’m sure much more could be added …
I’ve probably missed something completely obvious where it would all fall down but to me it’s a far less entitled version of FFP than exists now.
Sorry it’s longwinded.

Comment #29Some of you talking about FFP holding us back but how would you have liked it if the likes of Everton, Villa, or Leicester spent loads of money beyond their means before our own takeover happened? Yes, I agree that it holds back the less rich clubs from spending a fortune to shoot up the league but what’s wrong with that really? We know that sensible investment couples with increasing revenues means that the club can get there eventually.
FFP isn’t going to stop us, it’s just forcing us to grow more organically as opposed to just dropping a billion on players in a year.

Comment #33Tell ye what, the Scots don’t want to lose this Norway game. It would put them only 3 points behind the Jockanese and that great start to the campaign is fading fast.
Norway were leading 2.1 but as I’m typing an own goal makes it 2.2. 4 goals in the opening half hour.
