News in the Chronicle today that Newcastle United are looking for a head of partnership development.
The position is under Jonathan Kane’s group, with Kane being Newcastle’s Director of partnerships, and that’s him in the above picture.
Kane came in from Liverpool earlier this year, and his group is growing so that we can create partnerships with other companies so we can then (rapidly) increase our commercial revenues.
We are way behind in commercial revenues of the top Premier League clubs and our revenue governs what we can spend under the Financial Fair Play rules, and we cannot yet compete with the top six Premier League clubs, in terms of transfer fees and wages.
The advert says the new employee will be tasked with the following:
“Creating ‘high-value partnership deals’ and leading the club’s global sales effort, including presenting ‘high-quality, bespoke propositions’ to potential commercial partners.”
“As well as to build and manage a ‘high-performing’ sales team; and create and maintain a ‘high-level pipeline’ of potential clients.”
It’s all hands to the pumps, on increasing our commercial revenue which was pitiful for the 14 years under the former owner.
The game-day revenues and revenue we get from the Premier League every season are decent to good, but our commercial revenue lags way behind the top six clubs in the Premier League.
That’s the area we have to increase as quickly as we can, so we can spend more in the transfer market.
This is what our Sporting Director Dan Ashworth said earlier this month:
“What’s really difficult is to be able to compete commercially as well,”
“Some of those clubs have been a global brand for decades and that’s one of the big challenges for Peter Silverstone, chief commercial officer, Darren Eales, chief executive officer, and the team as well.”
“We’ve all got to try and work together to try and get ourselves into a situation where not only are we a top six club on the pitch, but also a top six club off the pitch.”
“That gives us more ammunition in order to be able to compete on the pitch.”
In total revenue as an example, Newcastle made £180M in the 2021-2022 financial year and that compares to Manchester City’s £619M, Chelsea’s £594M, and Manchester United’s £583M.
So we have less than one-third of what those clubs make in total revenue, and that shortfall is nearly all in commercial revenue.
======
It’s now time to get back in the groove for our tough game at home to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon – we need a win in that game.
Comments welcome.

Afternoon young man, so tonight will signal the end of Stephen Kenny as Irelands manager we can assume Munster, he seems like an nice bloke, but sadly always looked totally out of his depth, the results the last 3 years have been absolutely abysmal, plus his post match analysis have been a really hard watch Munster, he looks so uncomfortable in front of the camera, the job was just to big for him mate at the end of the day.

Comment #83BREAKING NEWS:
It’s looking likely that Premier League clubs will NOT vote in favour of a temporary block on “related-party loans”, meaning clubs with same owners are free to trade in January.
Confirmation awaited from Premier League in due course.

Brilliant to hear you`re wife is on her way to recovery mate, that chemo really takes it out of people, then to finish off with a week of radiation is no picnic by any stretch of the imagination!!! By this time next year and with the help of God she will be back to her old self, giving you meaningful chores around the house young Steve 😀 😀

Comment #85Premier League clubs narrowly fail to pass vote against ban on loans from associated party clubs. 13 clubs voted for the prohibition but 7 against it, enough to block. So in theory Newcastle can sign players on loan from PIF’s Saudi clubs, Palace from Lyon etc etc.

That’s maybe a surprise, although with so many owners having fingers in other clubs, maybe not.
Maybe other clubs are just getting hacked off with the entitled ones

Comment #90Davas, I thought the vote would sale through. Obviously 2 of the clubs against would be us and Man City. Arsenal, Palace, Brighton, Brentford and Chelsea who are keen to use the multi club rule going forwards, I think will be the others.
Those for definitely Liverpool and Spurs.

Comment #91I wasn’t that bothered which way the vote went. But why try it now? Surely they could have done it in the summer gone or waited till next summer. As Davas has pointed out, maybe this is the start of the tide turning and some clubs have had enough. Really would be nice to know which clubs wanted the vote in the first place and which ones said yay or nay.

Comment #92Transparency is all I’m asking for. It’s not like these votes are the owners and directors tests. Fans have the right to know because without fans football would be nothing.

Comment #95Hopefully the vote for tighter restrictions on interested party related sponsorship goes the same way. Though with Adidas and Champions league football this season, I don’t envisage us having problems getting sponsors going forward.

Comment #96Presumably those on here who can’t focus on matters Newcastle United and a few other associated topics (a few good tunes, food, bevvies and family matters and golf of course) can not call themselves true supporters of this great club.
Do their clubs not have blogs or are they barred from them for reasons of Public Health.
Little things please little minds.
The rest of us just get on with what we’re good at, being sociable, respecting Dr. Ed and having good craic around NUFC.

Comment #97Davas, I wonder what Levy and FSG will come up with next. I’ll never forget Levy’s face when Masters was sat next to him at that game and he whispered in Levy’s ear ” bad news old chap, the Newcastle United takeover is going to have to go through after all”.

Yeah, it makes you wonder. Like you said, it’s not so much the bringing in of restrictions but the timing of it all. It’s blatant despite what they say.

Comment #99Daily Fail trying to be clever and failing
They’re saying the EPL has voted to allow Newcastle to trade. Not that 13 clubs tried to protect their own dirty backyards
In any other aspect of business you can move between different employers irrespective of the fact that they might be owned by the same company.

Comment #104No to Neymar. We don’t need his ego or attitude. Just because he’s a good player doesn’t mean he’s our type of player. A big pass on him and any player like him.

Comment #109Apparently, 11 Premier League clubs have owners who have some sort of investment interest in other clubs. In other words, 9 who do not.
So it’s actually quite interesting that 13 clubs vote in favour of the ban, though 14 votes were needed for it to pass.

Comment #114Great news about the vote today, for once something has gone in our favour.
I told a pal yesterday that i think it will be blocked, and it has.
I would take Benzema and Neves on loan for starters, though i wouldn`t buy either.
You can bet your bottom dollar that FSG and Levy wanted that loan ban put in place, it was them fookers who tried to get our TO stopped.
They must be gutted haha.

Comment #115Wow fantastic news, I wonder who’ll we get, in January.
On another note.
Can we please please stop slagging off people who vote right or left.
We all have our own beliefs. Some of the things being said are horrific.
We live in a democratic country, and no matter who is in power we should try to get along, at least on the blog.
Let’s try to keep Ed’s blog respectful.

Comment #116It’s interesting that BBC Radio news reported on the EPL vote by opening with words to the effect of ‘Newcastle United will be able to sign from associated clubs…..’
So, while some were insisting the vote was not aimed at NUFC, the Beeb reported it differently.
It stinks
