Newcastle have now won 7 home games in a row at home in the Premier League and we probably have the best atmosphere of any ground in the country.
Newcastle fans have always been touted for their passionate support of Newcastle United and it’s as true today as it was in the past.
Great home support is not a given, and one of the worst set of supporters are probably at Manchester City, who often don’t even have sellouts at the Etihad Stadium.
Last night Liverpool hammered West Ham 5-1 to go into the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and manager Jurgen Klopp wasn’t too pleased with the fans’ reaction and support of a towering win against an in-form side.
This is what Klopp said after the game as reported in the Chronicle today:
“I was not overly happy with the atmosphere behind me,”
‘I was like ‘what do you want?’. We changed the team a lot and we dominated West Ham. If I had been in the crowd I would have been on my toes.”
“Was everyone down because we didn’t smash Manchester United on Saturday, we need Anfield to be on its toes from the first second. Without waiting for me to have an argument with the opposition coach or whatever.”
“We need you. If it’s too much football in December, sorry, if you’re not in the right shape give your ticket to somebody else.”
What’s happening here is that over the last two years, the top managers in the Premier League have seen the Newcastle home support with the fantastic Wor Flags displays and they realize their home support is nowhere near the support at St. James’ Park.
And it certainly makes a difference, although we have to say we are surprised at the Liverpool fans being criticized – they are probably the next best to Newcastle, and they have also had great teams over the decades and won many, many trophies – unlike Newcastle.
Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola has every right to complain about the support at City.
They have never been a great set of supporters, and it’s as true today as it has been over the years.
That’s even though City have had staggering success since their takeover in September 2008, by Sheikh Mansour.
This is what Pep Guardiola has said about the fans:
“I wanted some more noise, it felt very still. A little bit more, but maybe we’ll have to play a bit better to make them move a bit more.”
One of Newcastle’s co-owners Mehrdad Ghodoussi did criticize our fans last month after the win against Chelsea, but he has since apologized for that gaff.
But head coach Eddie Howe has no doubts about the Newcastle fan base, and he often thanks the fans after a win or a loss – be it home or away (usually away this season):
“They have been there for us this season, we are going to need every voice, every person can make a difference for us,”
“We need to create an atmosphere, the supporters have never let us down at home.”
“They have really driven us on, in tight games, they have really given us the ability to carry on.”
Newcastle fans are the best and in my long time supporting the team – that’s always been the case.
We all needed to stick together to support the lads, who have lost four of our last 5 games in all competitions.
We need the win at Luton Town on Saturday afternoon – 3:00pm kick-off – as we face a big challenge to again finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League again next season.
This season’s experience in Europe will be very good for Eddie Howe and our players – we will be better for it come next season.
What do you think?

Comment #2DrGloom, ha ha have you seen and heard Trippier’s wife,
I wouldn’t like to meet her in a bad mood, she was that documentary f ing and blinding, she would have knocked Trippier out, I’m sure they’ve just had another baby too.
I bet that would have led to stress,

Comment #3It’s only a few weeks since our owner said the atmosphere at our home games was flat.
