South American Forward On Newcastle’s Radar For January Signing

There are various recent reports that Newcastle want to sign young Juventus star forward Matias Soule in January.

The 20-year-old Argentine U20 International forward is playing well on loan at Italian club Frosinone in the Serie A this season, and it seems that Juventus are willing to sell the player for €25M (£21.8M) in January.

Juventus have money problems and have to sell players quickly to improve their poor financial position.

The left-footed player usually plays on the right wing and is on a season-long loan at Frosinone, but that could all change if Newcastle are really interested in signing the player in January.

Another advantage is he is versatile and can play in multiple forward positions.

Soule has played 16 games this season at Frosinone with 6 goals and an assist, and he has looked like an impressive young player in Serie A.

He has played 21 times for the Juventus first team with one goal.

His style of play is stated as follows on Wikipedia

“Soule is a left-footed right winger, noted for his dribbling ability and set-piece taking, earning him comparisons to Angel Di Maria.”

He was born in Mar del Plata, Argentina, and is of Italian descent, and he holds dual citizenship, and considers Independiente his favorite team and Lionel Messi his favorite player (that’s a surprise).

Soule has 7 caps for the Argentine U20 side so he is a typical Newcastle target.

He’s a young player (who stands 6ft tall) and looks to have the ability to become much improved at Newcastle, under the guidance of head coach Eddie Howe and his coaching staff.

However, Newcastle are not the only club keeping an eye on the youngster, with other top European clubs are also aware of the player’s talents.

It would be a surprise to us if Newcastle sign any players permanently in January.

But there again, if a target is available in January for a decent price, and can help us in the second half of the season, as long as it’s within FFP rules and for the long term, Newcastle should sign the player.

Soule is certainly one to keep an eye on for next month, once the transfer window opens.

Be interesting to see how much funds are available for January. What’s so annoying is that we did so well to get through such big games in this cup and then spurn it. I’m still not convinced we can hang all of this on fatigue. Are we 100% more fatigued than Chelsea. We did well in our compact shape but did so little with the ball in the second half that even a pinball type goal was possible. I still rate that as one of my most painful defeats supporting nufc. And to Chelsea, aaagh.

Munster we were drawing until the bitter end, Chelsea have one game a bloody week, and could bring on fresh, expensive talent, we had Richie.
Anyway, I’m looking forward not backwards.
Don’t lose all the positivity we had, still a hard slog ahead, new recruits in January.

We were winning Carltoon but we can’t complain because again we sat too deep. As soon as we scored we seemed to go 10 yards back. Yes we need better players but I hope that when we get some guys back we don’t play like this again.

Left footed penalty takers oot because the often miss?!

Loch, I was surprised. If I were to guess I’d say they confuse the keeper more. In tennis, Federer just couldn’t figure out Nadal.

    Anyway:
“A total of 1,653 penalties have been taken with the right foot against the 480 taken with the left. Right-footed shooters have scored 1,322/1,653 penalties (80% conversion rate), while left-footed shooters have scored 388/480 penalties (80.8% conversion rate).

On the matter of penalties, I’ve said it before. Change the rules. See below.

The person who wrote this must’ve been reading this blog and my posts! 😉

The penalty rule is too draconian, no other sport has such a massive game changing rule for, sometimes, a small infringement or even a controversial handball.

My suggestion? Move the ball back, simple. To the D*. Balls move way faster today for reasons you know. Keepers have “grown” too but not analogously.

    * What’s the D for?

On the last game, but for one monstrous error which was easily avoidable as Trip was under zero pressure, we would’ve won the game.

In that case, history would’ve been rewritten: A defensive master class. A mature strategic performance. Newcastle now knows how to see tough games through. NUFC could go all the way. NUFC now knows how to win ugly.

Me, that game, whether we’d won or lost, reminded me too much of the Rafa Bruce desperate and pragmatic games. Please, never again!

Ok, since no one will tell me, looked up what the D is for.

So, if the current position of the penalty spot is moved back, the D won’t be needed anymore.

I’d keep it, looks nice. The penalty can be taken from anywhere within the D.

That should take percentage conversion to about 50%. Give the keeper a chance man.

    Spread the word 🙂

    :).

On Trips missing that, any other day I would’ve selected him first to take it.

    On that day, no.

But he was probably asked and he said yes. Vice captain and all that.

I get it. But we all knew he’d miss. Himself included.

Barcelona and Real Madrid will be due a loyalty bonus of £870m should plans for a European Super League finally get the go-ahead.

    Loyalty to what ?
The ESL doesn’t exist. How can they receive a loyalty bonus ?
Looks more like a bribe for supporting the project.
Perhaps the European Court will deem that illegal ?

Good to see Novo posting and fully agree. Not that we need worry. We do things the right way as a club so as to not draw unnecessary attention to ourselves. Because you can guarantee if we didn’t the sports washing band would be tuning up again.

Cyprus, I would never call sitting deep and offering zero counter attack a defensive master class. If a team offers a bit more control , a bit more possession and threat in transition with great defence aswell I’d call it a defensive masterclass.

Hope Krafth isn’t too injured. Always plays superb when he’s called upon and would be nice to see him get regular games or appearances from the bench for the rest of the season to prove he deserves a squad place. His versatility at the back is always useful.

America penalty used to be dribbling ball against unrushing keeper instead of striking deadball.

Maybe that should be one if a last defender takes out an attacker it should be defender red card and attacker opportunity 1 v 1

Gloom – it’s interesting speaking to people who were brought up in a certain way and feel that something is “in their blood”. Speaking as someone who wasn’t brought up that way at all so has found his own way in most things, it’s a bit alien to me but also interesting. In a way, I can feel a bit envious of how that 100% loyalty and passion feels to many people, whether it’s to country, religion, region, or football club. However, I also know there are plenty of people who have that loyalty to something and really it’s not the best thing for them. I’ve seen a few on this blog over the years and think they’d have definitely been a Man Utd or Liverpool fan if they’d have been born in London…

For me, supporting the club is definitely from the heart though. If it was from the head, I’d be supporting a club who had won many trophies in my lifetime. I followed football but let my heart drift until it settled upon the Toon when I was about 14/15. By the time I was 16, I was definitely a lifetime fan. 🙂

I (bizarrely) have been called a glory hunter for supporting a club that wasn’t very near to my place of birth or the place I was brought up, although both are irrelevant to my identity. Glory hunter! 😆

Lesh – can I make a suggestion that I think even the likes of Fenham would appreciate. On Discord, there is an off topic channel. There have been some very interesting and civil discussions there involving the likes of me, Ruddy, Taco, Betty, Tuff and others on topics as controversial as immigration and Brexit. We try to keep those topics away from the football chat and I think the same should be the case on Ed’s blog.

Perhaps you should rejoin Discord and use the off topic channel for when you want to discuss politics? Keep using this blog to discuss football as you’re already doing but use that off topic channel for what it’s designed for. You won’t generally get people attacking you for your beliefs because I think that usually happens when a football discussion gets interrupted by someone political. It’s just good and civil conversation.

I think even the staunchest anti-Discord person wouldn’t object to politics moving to Discord…
