There are various recent reports that Newcastle want to sign young Juventus star forward Matias Soule in January.
The 20-year-old Argentine U20 International forward is playing well on loan at Italian club Frosinone in the Serie A this season, and it seems that Juventus are willing to sell the player for €25M (£21.8M) in January.
Juventus have money problems and have to sell players quickly to improve their poor financial position.
The left-footed player usually plays on the right wing and is on a season-long loan at Frosinone, but that could all change if Newcastle are really interested in signing the player in January.
Another advantage is he is versatile and can play in multiple forward positions.
Soule has played 16 games this season at Frosinone with 6 goals and an assist, and he has looked like an impressive young player in Serie A.
He has played 21 times for the Juventus first team with one goal.
His style of play is stated as follows on Wikipedia
“Soule is a left-footed right winger, noted for his dribbling ability and set-piece taking, earning him comparisons to Angel Di Maria.”
He was born in Mar del Plata, Argentina, and is of Italian descent, and he holds dual citizenship, and considers Independiente his favorite team and Lionel Messi his favorite player (that’s a surprise).
Soule has 7 caps for the Argentine U20 side so he is a typical Newcastle target.
He’s a young player (who stands 6ft tall) and looks to have the ability to become much improved at Newcastle, under the guidance of head coach Eddie Howe and his coaching staff.
However, Newcastle are not the only club keeping an eye on the youngster, with other top European clubs are also aware of the player’s talents.
It would be a surprise to us if Newcastle sign any players permanently in January.
But there again, if a target is available in January for a decent price, and can help us in the second half of the season, as long as it’s within FFP rules and for the long term, Newcastle should sign the player.
Soule is certainly one to keep an eye on for next month, once the transfer window opens.
What do you think?

Comment #201TDS, I started the post saying one isn’t better than the other – it’s probably tougher as a fan not from the area as fans of other clubs ask why the f* would you support newcastle ( maybe not so much these days 🙂 )

Talking about off topic, just found out that as a non Muslim you’re not even allowed to visit the city of Mecca never mind have a look at the famous mosque. Not sure what else there is to do in Saudi, a lot of money for the two of us just to watch a meaningless friendly.

Comment #203Gloom – yeah, I definitely saw those initial words from you and I agree with them.
The funny thing about being a Toon fan without a Geordie accent (and not from the area if anyone asks) is that in a few years, I’ll probably be asked, “did you become a fan when the Saudis took over and they started winning trophies?” Grrrrr…no, I supported the club during times when we were sh1te and had a money grabbing, soulless owner for 14 years but thanks for asking!

Comment #204Raj – that’s a shame really, I didn’t know about that either. I spent some time exploring some religious and historical sites in Marrakech and there were no such restrictions that we experienced. Bit different to Mecca though…
I found out recently that it’s apparently forbidden for Muslims to celebrate Christmas in any way. Even putting up a tree or decorations is supposedly not allowed.

Comment #206beermonkey – that is 100% not putting the Hall topic to bed. That is backing his player publicly while he’s pushing him privately to earn his space in the team and earn his permanent transfer. Of course he wants him to perform and earn both but that’s up to Hall.

Aye, sounds like Howe just believes he’s not ready yet. Maybe struggling with the tactics, physical requirements or just needs to polish his defensive side of the game to be trusted into the team.
Hopefully fans stop screaming for him to be automatically included every match off the bench.

He’s said the deal isn’t permanent yet but he’s in the long term plans. So not done yet, but will be, otherwise he wouldn’t be in his long term plans.
Also saying we need to develop his game.
So, not ready to be used yet. Will be in the future and he’s part of that future.
Seems clear enough!

Comment #209Adam – not really. Someone being in your long term plans doesn’t mean they stay that way. They’re planning for him to be with the club long-term but that doesn’t mean they don’t change their mind in summer if he fails to impress over the next few months.
Of course he’s going to say that he’s in his long-term plans as what else could he possibly say?
Howe also said that he’s been signed for now yet he’s not being used now so that would indicate to me that he’s not at the level that we bought him for and expected him to be.

My missus is from Pinner (London) she has supported NUFC for 11 years. When she has advised people she is a supporter of the toon in the Ashley era nobody batted an eye lid…
Fast forward to now, she gets laughed at and asked questions such as “why would you support NUFC is it because they’re the richest club in the world now” or she even had this one from an idiot at her place of work who was a Liverpool fan (I know) “why are you supporting the Saudi executioners”
The moral of the story and both you lads may witness such things as my missus has is that nobody cared about NUFC when Ashley had us, we weren’t a threat we were a laughing stock, but now people are very jealous of the funds we could eventually have at our disposal once we get the FFP shackles taken away. So, people will think you’re a glory hunter, especially when we do start being glorious and winning leagues and trophies. Thats when the jealousy will go up a fair few notches.

What else could he say? Sooooo many things haha Could say nothing. Could not mention plans at all and just say he’s training well and he’ll get his chance. Could say he’s training well but not quite ready. Could answer questions about the transfer not done yet but not mention long term plans at all. He didn’t need to mention long term plan. So to bring it up suggests that he does see him in those plans.
Loaned him for FFP reasons. He’s a long term investment just like Tino, it’s just that Tino is more polished and ready for the here and now. Hall will take longer but get there.
People just want him to be used now, but Howe clearly feels his game isn’t ready yet and will work with him until it is.

Comment #212Some people spectacularly missing the point with their ”whatiffery”.
On Trippier, I’ve heard various random rumours about a break in at his house or marital problems. That being the case then as a duty of care he needed to be ”rested” while he clearly is in not in a fit state either mentally or physically. Yes his stats were great before this blip but that’s not the issue here. Right here, right now he needed taking out of the firing line. His wellbeing is way more important.
Yes we’re short on numbers but that is a direct result of zero rotation when you insist on playing your best players and running them into the ground no matter what. I think it’s naivete and I think also a bit of a lack of respect to Kraft, Hall and Dummet who all played brilliantly in the previous round away at Manu. Why not give Diallo or Sanussi a run for some minutes when Gordon is obviously on his knees.
As brilliantly as EH has done, the style of play away from home these days, the head scratching subs, poor game management and no change ups of personnel or format have seen us exit 2 cup competitions in a week while being really well placed and has left us now facing a massive uphill task to get top 4 again.
We didn’t need Barnes, Tonali was / is an expensive nightmare and Hall, well g-d only knows what’s going on there. Santa wish list: Tomori or similar, a number 10 playmaker and a young striker.

Comment #214Fenham – I’ve only had a relatively few odd comments about us since the takeover but I have had a few who mention the Saudis in the negative way. Sadly, I think a woman will get more crappy comments like that as some people perceive them as being floating fans. Your missus clearly has the easy retort, “no, I started supporting the Toon when we were sh1te and owned by a soulless, money grabbing *%#$!”
When I tell people I’m a Toon fan, the first comment is usually, “but you’re not from there are you?” but the second comment is usually a compliment to our team, manager, or a particular player.
I do agree that the percentage of positive responses I get will diminish as we start to win things and fans of other clubs get jealous though…

Comment #217Adam – you can read into it whatever you like, I’m totally convinced that it’s not 100% sure that he’ll join permanently in the summer. It seems clear to me (from several of Howe’s comments) that he’s a bit behind where they expected him to be but also that he’s seen as having a lot of potential.
I hope he does sign permanently as they’ll already have invested a lot of time into his development but I’m also convinced that there’s a chance he won’t.

Guess it’s all hindsight kind of stuff mate. Like, the changes or things you’ve suggested he could have done, maybe in hindsight could have worked out for the better. But if they hadn’t we’d have fans claiming the opposite of what you are now. Saying the likes of Dummett, Krafth and the youngsters shouldn’t have been used in such important games or brought in at important moments of the match as they’re not ready or good enough. Complaining at why he took off good players for them etc etc.
I guess he’s gone for what is deemed the ‘safer’ and ‘less risky’ options. Keeping your best possible players on in important games to try get results over a tricky stretch of games.
Maybe looking back he’ll wonder and maybe even wish he done a few things a little differently. He’ll learn from it hopefully.

Comment #219Good old Eddie. Commenting on 5 of our players and we’re still non the wiser if they’re starting or on the bench tomorrow. Would still take a draw, just to stop the away defeats racking up. 3 points at home to Forest and that’ll do me.

Aye we’ll have to wait and see. Think he was always brought in as a long term investment similar to Tino. One has shown they’re ready now, the other clearly needs more time. I think they’re happy to invest in his potential to make it permanent and think over the seasons we’ll see more and more expensive youngsters brought in. Some ready to play a part straight away, some brought in and loaned out and some that take time to bed in.
Hall is just the first of many I feel.

Guess it depends if we qualify for Champions League again and how much the Adidas deal will truly be worth. As well as any other revenue/sponsorship deals we sort out between now and next season. Think we should be in a fairly strong position, but will have to wait and see.

Aye, hopefully this whole season will do his managerial/coaching abilities the world of good from a learning perspective. Would have been hard enough without the injuries, but that added a whole new level of difficulty.
Been the type of season so far where so many hurdles have been coming at us, if it was a Football Manager season, you’d start considering loading a previous save haha

Can I suggest that you look at the bigger picture before wading in with the allusion that I only speak politics.
Check back a long way and you’ll see that it’s usually been Fenham and Tuff who’ve done the politics and sniping over the last year or so. I’d anyone’s done any damage to this Blog and continues to take the pi$$ out of the good Dr Ed, it’s yer Fenham who seems to have his own right-wing views that he’s been peddling on here.
If and when Fenham joins Discord, best of luck to it!

Comment #236Magic – as I said, Betty and Tuff have been involved in some very interesting political chats on Discord, away from the football chat and therefore not disturbing the majority of people who do not want to chat about football on a Toon blog/server.
My wording to Lesh was very clear and not accusatory whatsoever. Not sure if you read my initial comment? I think Lesh introduced politics out of nowhere in response to Gloom’s comment. That’s fine, but I suggested that if Lesh wants to debate Gloom’s politics with him, that would be best done in the Discord off topic channel rather than here or the general chat on Discord.
