From what Eddie Howe has said in his press conference today it seems a good bet that nobody will be brought into the squad this month, but also that Howe will not lose any of his top players either.
The window closes on Thursday night, February 1st at 11:00pm.
With Jacob Murphy back in the 2-0 win at Fulham and both Harvey Barnes and Callum Wilson back before the end of the month, things are starting to look up a bit – and that’s encouraging.
We just have to hope that players like Joe Willock and even Barnes himself don’t falter like they have done in the past with their injuries – when both players have broken down in their quest for full fitness.
Here’s what top man Eddie Howe has said this morning about the transfer situation at Newcastle:
“It’s a complex situation. I don’t think anything is clear-cut. All eventualities can happen.”
“Probably what we won’t do is bring in a player without losing one the other way, I think that’d be impossible. But I think all other options could still happen.”
“Keeping the squad intact, as the manager, trying to produce a team to win games would be the one for me,”
“But we are guardians of the club’s future and we want to make the right decisions for the club’s future and for FFP.”
“We don’t want to breach FFP. That is where I will support the decisions that are made for the long term and that will benefit the club.”
Those are more sensible words from Howe, and we think at this stage he’d be happy enough if things don’t change before Friday.
Howe will be hoping he will soon get back Joe Willock, who can make a huge difference in the center of the pitch in the absence of Brazilian powerhouse Joelinton.
With Newcastle’s hesitancy to spend in this window, we have to think we are very close to the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) limitations the Premier League have in place.
The league have recently shown they are willing to punish clubs who don’t follow the rules – such as Everton and Nottingham Forest.
Although they don’t seem to fully include treble winners Manchester City or Chelsea – at least not at the moment.
City have been accused of 105 abuses of PSR, and of keeping two sets of books – the real ones and those they show to the Premier League.
If that’s true, then that’s a criminal offense by a business and the punishment for City could be (should be) very severe.
We wonder if the PL have the guts and will to fully prosecute Manchester City.
What do you think?

Comment #5Jesus christ Munster im legitimately starting to think you’re Sean Casey. How on earth can you continue to think anything that guy says is true, in regards to Newcastle transfers. Thats a serious question too?
For the past 2 years he has literally made a show of himself hundreds of times saying this plsyer is done and that player is signed. Etc, how on earth can you continue to be fooled this many times, especially considering youre not this stupid.
Only logical explanation why you constantly keep bringing him up and try to legitimise him is you possibly are him??

Comment #7but was nicked back by Munster.
I obviously need to put some extra training in.
Great to see Miley being supported by the club and looking forward to not being part of a ‘project’ rather thinking of it as being part of the future success of Newcastle United becoming a world leading club.

Comment #9Adam he also called Pedro early and Tino as I said. I know another bloke in the UK who has a few links through Sky and involvement in football so if I hear the two opinions overlapping I generally feel something might be stirring.
Despite the fact that we think we need a 6, it doesnt seem Eddies preferred set up, which is fair enough, until we look like the Grand Canyon in midfield
So in my opinion, if we have all guys fit, we can do well, but I havent seen adjustments from Eddie to react to the messes on the pitch, when his athletes arent available
The second concern I have is that injuries will continue to hurt us unless, as I have said many times, we bring in the savage athletes who can do his work
Will big and little Joe be able to continue the savage workrate he demands in matches and training? Im not sure, but at least with a couple more leggy athletes in there it will help us no end.

Comment #14Every transfer window the hacks crawl out of their bunkers and start writing drivel in an attempt to get noticed as of course they do as that’s how social media works.
Not for one minute are they in the office when owners, managers, players, agents are having private discussions. The Agents are of course happy to talk up their players situations in the hope that they benefit from a big commission on a sales or loan.
Come 1st February I wonder how many ‘stories’ have actually come true.
The old expression ‘ the best way to predict the future is to create it’ is so applicable.

Comment #15Changing the rules or relaxing them wont do a dam thing to help us or anyone else. Because the ssme new rules will apply to the established clubs.
To simplify it, if we’re able to spend another 100M to try catch up,bthey will be able to spend another 100M to stay ahead.
The only way we catch up is if the rules are scrapped altogether and then it becomes a game of who can out-spend the other. Thats the only way we get where were going fast.
The rules will never ever get scrapped completely unfortunately. We’re just hoing to have to slowly raise revenue and hope that we continue to get every transfer right, and hope the top clubs get a few wrong.

Did you do a piece on the winner of MOM?
Speaking of which, Check,
When the ball is played out from Burn’s side, he doesn’t lose the ball. We expect him to, ok, but his passes are actually pretty accurate.
We’re looking for culprits for our recent demise, but it ain’t there. Some goals were Trippier’s fault, others the MF breaking down.

Comment #19The Premier League will make impossible for us to compete unless we find local talent who are world class and cost us very little, so the 10 year plan will not happen unless we sell Bruno,Isak and Botman and hope we can find these free superstars.

Comment #20The rule should be amended to who ever can spend the most wages/turnover everyone else should be able to spend that if tge owners can provide proof they can cover any debts they can incur.

Comment #21What’s the point of FFP?
That teams compete equally or that teams don’t go bust?
For the former point, well it’s absolutely unequal.
The latter point is a good one. But, if a team has, say, a crazy owner who wants to throw in stupid money and is willing to back that craziness, why stop him?
You own a small cafe. A crazy, rich uncle of yours wants to throw 10 million at it, just because he likes you and he likes to hang out there. Is there a law to stop him?

Comment #25How can we buy a £38million player every season???
Charge £40.00 extra for each game……50k seats, 19 home games at £40 extra will produce £38million more revenue.
Not popular but will save having to extend ground.

Not that I agree with this but if you do allow a wild west, providing owners can back up with their own money, you distort the market, making clubs who can’t do that have to either take risks or just be left even further behind than with the current model.
I still stand by the view you need two rules to solve it:
1) Some form of not letting clubs lose X amount of money, with some exception for owners willing to fund directly or allowing some sort of extra investment where it can be afforded (much like a normal business may borrow or take on investors) – basically an amended version of the current rules
2) Some salary cap for the squad agreed ideally across europes top leagues, so there is some parity. It would still be higher than most teams could afford but wouldn’t allow all players to be getting £1 million per week.
But none of that will happen.

Comment #28If, as is happening, Premier League clubs reign in their spending, then the whole world’s football finances will be wrecked.
A football recession may not be a bad thing, to bring transfer fees and wages under control.

Comment #29Replace FFP with a bond ie,PIF give the PL £1billion bond that then allows us to spend a £1billion (£2Billion outlay by PIF).
If PIF go bust or pull out then the PL can invest the £1Billion in rescuing Newcastle.

Not a terrible idea but I do think we should look to try and keep things as equal as possible and not let teams run even further ahead just because they can put money into bonds.
Not sure we’ll ever be able to get back there though and the current model doesn’t stop the gap widening.

Granted some money comes from sponsorship (which I guess still comes from people’s pockets) but the huge increase does really come from expensive TV deals, more pricey tickets, shirts costing £70 plus, etc.
A massive recession in football would be very welcome if it led to reduced prices and making things more affordable for fans.

Not one serious fan gives the lad any credibility whatsoever. In fact he gets laughed at now and like I said lots look at him as a parody account.
So he was right about Tino but 99% wrong about everything else but let’s give him some credit 😆
Tried warning him more than once but he wouldn’t listen. Utterly embarrassing
