Callum Wilson has been linked with AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United in this January window but Eddoe Hpwe was adamant in his press conference this morning that he is 100% committed to Newcastle United.
Since he was signed in August of 2020, for around £20M, Wilson has been quite prolific in his scoring, and in 102 games for the Magpies, he has scored 46 goals with 11 assists.
That’s an excellent return from the former Bournemouth and Coventry striker, who turns 32 next month.
Eddie Howe has today said there is really nothing in the speculation surrounding Callum Wilson and Howe would never let his second striker leave the club this month without bringing in a replacement.
This is what Eddie Howe said about Callum this morning:
“I’ve had those conversations with Callum,”
“He is 100% committed just like Kieran Trippier is. That’s why I’m surprised by the noise around Callum really.”
“He’s currently injured, we’ve got one fit striker and he is our second striker and we are desperate to get him back.”
“From his and our perspective, there is nothing in him leaving.”
“That’s been a strange one really because there’s been a lot of speculation regarding Callum and I’ve seen some of it, probably not all of it but a lot of it.”
“I think it has been unfounded.”
It’s looking like we will not be bringing anybody in this month and not losing anybody either.
That will leave the summer transfer window to be a potential big one.
At that time Newcastle can decide to offload some of our older players, and we will also have money to spend, within the rules allowed by PSR.
Comments welcome.

Hardly convincing by the chief.
If they got 20 million for Wilson it would be sale of the century.
Multiply it by three considering he’s unavailable 2/3rds of the season and never ever looks truly 100% fit now.
He is the one to fund some midfielders not super miggy.

Comment #8One of the things in our favour regarding FFP is that while the bigger clubs have the bigger revenues they also have the bigger costs, so the gap is never as huge as you might imagine, when you consider it’s all money in money out, and teams constantly need refreshing and rebuilding. We have pots of money so we simply need to keep investing in infrastructure and people, and focus on ruñning the club right, and we’ll slowly and steadily reel the big sides in. I’ve accepted this, and actually prefer it. It’s sound.

Comment #9If we traded in Wilson for a mid, then you’ve only got Gordon as back up to Isak up top, so I don’t see it. If it happens I think it’ll be Miggy, because we have five wingers at the club, and so we have the cover, although in the here and now only 3, so it’s all very dicey.

Think most proper northerners have loads of Celt in em. Same sort of genuine natures.
Apart from Munster and Raj of course. Probably 100% English. Come across as southerners the way they go on. 🙂

Comment #17The other problem is we have a good set of midfielders as it is, it’s just they aren’t all fit and available. We buy one now, then next term we have one too many. Ideally we probably need a stop gap loan at left mid for the remainder of the season. That’s a bit tricky. I think we’ll be trying desperately to find a solution, but maybe it just can’t be done, and we’ll just ultimately be forced to stick with what we have for the rest of the campaign.

Understand that Miguel Almiron looks set to stay at Newcastle after Al-Shabab failed to reach a deal for the Paraguayan. He’s in line to return against Aston Villa tomorrow after illness

Comment #19Yeah, they can raid us for our best players. I keep having this image of Joelinton in Man United’s midfield next season, on 300 K a week. Again though, thats not the end of the world, so long as we protect ourselves with good release clauses.

I’m originally from Country Durham, spent time in Newcastle for uni, have some family in Belfast and now myself live in Glasgow. Always find communities where there was heavy industry, ship building or mining are very similar. Usually very welcoming and great talkers.
Although got to say, really enjoy being down in places like London too. It’s never half as bad as people make out in terms of unfriendly people… to be honest, I always approach things in that nearly everyone is a good person with a small percentage that if exceptions do show a little kindness and it’s all good.

Comment #39Munster we need a midfielder it’s as simple as that.i said after seeing the line up for the Fulham match that we will struggle the rest of the year with that midfield it will get run over for to easily.i thought it would of been OK for Fulhams b team but it struggled.so it’s a big worry and gamble to have that midfield for the rest of the season we 100% need a new midfielder an a top one at that.
