Howe Says “Noise” About Callum Wilson Leaving Newcastle Is “Unfounded”

Callum Wilson has been linked with AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United in this January window but Eddoe Hpwe was adamant in his press conference this morning that he is 100% committed to Newcastle United.

Since he was signed in August of 2020, for around £20M, Wilson has been quite prolific in his scoring, and in 102 games for the Magpies, he has scored 46 goals with 11 assists.

That’s an excellent return from the former Bournemouth and Coventry striker, who turns 32 next month.

Eddie Howe has today said there is really nothing in the speculation surrounding Callum Wilson and Howe would never let his second striker leave the club this month without bringing in a replacement.

This is what Eddie Howe said about Callum this morning:

“I’ve had those conversations with Callum,”

“He is 100% committed just like Kieran Trippier is. That’s why I’m surprised by the noise around Callum really.”

“He’s currently injured, we’ve got one fit striker and he is our second striker and we are desperate to get him back.”

“From his and our perspective, there is nothing in him leaving.”

“That’s been a strange one really because there’s been a lot of speculation regarding Callum and I’ve seen some of it, probably not all of it but a lot of it.”

“I think it has been unfounded.”

It’s looking like we will not be bringing anybody in this month and not losing anybody either.

That will leave the summer transfer window to be a potential big one.

At that time Newcastle can decide to offload some of our older players, and we will also have money to spend, within the rules allowed by PSR.

Blackburn away is a canny trip out. Fernhurst pub right by the ground is a canny boozer for a good drink and sing song outside.
Went there years ago and got a ticket for a lad off co.uk canny day out. Wonder if he reads this blog now…well do ya, ya little ginger Brummie fecker? 😉

Blackburn it is then, 7.5K tickets available for away fans at least for that game, no doubt about it, plenty of empty seats around the ground tonight so an opportunity for Toon fans to fill their boots in the next round because i doubt that lot will sell all their home seats, they never do.

Irrespective of how this transfer window ends up I expect next season to be a launch pad for the club to move up a level on many fronts.
By then Liverpool will be without Klopp, Salah and Van Djik. Manu without van Ten and a number of players continuing to be in free fall. Arsenal may be stagnating, Chelsea no better, maybe Spurs ok and City still top dog
Good reason for us to hit the ground running in August with Toonali and other key signings ready to rock and roll. Look forward to that.

If we can just see this season out without a major catastrophe then i think we will really kick on next season.
A few of our fringe players will eventually leave and will hopefully be replaced by improvements, add to that the walking wounded will finally be injury free to give us a glance of what we have been missing this season.

Blackburn it is, mind,if I’d realised how pants Wrexham were I’d have rather played them, shame we never got Wrexham at home, we could have spanked them while getting maximum world wide exposure due to their owner. Talking to the ‘uddersfield fan who I see from time to time and he reckons Blackburn are sh!te.

    From Nufc.com
    Pope boost

The Times report that goalkeeper Nick Pope is expected to return to the Newcastle squad during mid-March – raising his own hopes of making the England squad for this summer’s Euro finals.

The 31 year-old dislocated his shoulder in the home win over Manchester United in early December. Estimates of a four month recuperation period were made then – and at this stage, appear to be accurate.

Bench a little stronger tonight with Murphy or Almiron starting and one or the other on the bench. Nice to have that option, certainly been a while. Looks like Joe White will also be on the bench. Got a sneaky feeling we’re going to win tonight.
    1-0 to the Toon.

SkySports reckon we have a central midfielder lined up ready if we can sell Almiron.

But I doubt either of those happen personally.

Villa will be a lot tougher than Fulham.
Our midfield struggled against a second string Fulham and we had to rely on defence and forwards.
Hoping for a draw and our season to kick on in Feb.

I don’t see too much happening now although convinced we need a CM. I’m not one to be a pessimist but the two games we will be without Bruno will likely be very difficult for us, regardless of opposition. And I can see him getting booked against Villa today and missing Luton and Forrest, which we really need to be winning.

Absolutely, a loan to tie us over until the summer would be fine with me and do the job. Ideally we really need to finish 6th, if not 7th. We need to be regulars in Europe for a few reasons… for us as fans it’s good to see, good for players to see us staying on the up, good for them and Howe to get used to managing mid week games, more revenue including a minimum extra 3 home games, improve our coefficient to help with future CL draws, etc.

As others have said, Liverpool without Klopp and likely Van Dijk and Salah next season are very different. Man Utd and Chelsea are unpredictable and I don’t see any reason why, with our players back and likely 3/4 additions, we can’t surpass Spurs and Villa and really get back into that top 4.

Onto tonights match, certainly think we can get a result if our defence stands strong.

Villa like to play a very high line, especially at home. So with the front 3 pace we have in Gordon, Isak and either Miggy/Murphy, we can catch them on the break and cause them real problems.

Stand strong in defence and then one good pass from Bruno or Trippier could see us get in behind them. It’s a shame we don’t have someone like Joelinton or Willock availble, as their strong ball carrying in midfield would be great for this match.

I don’t think we can do a loan unless we sell someone either.

No club is going to let a half decent midfielder go out on loan for free halfway through a season. They’ll demand a big obligation to buy (which we may not want to commit to as we’ll have Tonali, Willock, Anderson and Joelinton back by the summer), or, they’ll want a decent loan fee which we likely can’t afford.

Don’t think a loan deal is as simple as it seems unless we sell someone.

Sky Sports journalism is so poor at times…. talking about if we sell Miggy we have nobody else on the right hand side…. maybe Murphy, the guy who started there in the last game and a good chunk of last season.

I know a lot of these are presenters so aren’t overly knowledgeable of the game, but you can really see the ones who care and do decent research/have a proper interest, and don’t just want to present or follow the ‘top’ clubs and players.

I think I posted this over the road and not here but gutted we didn’t go for Phillips. Listening to a Leeds journalist talk about him he just sounds like he fits us so well…. aggressive, more box to box than a typical holding player Pep likes, really good at releasing forwards with balls over the top or through the defence…just sounds like he’d have suited us.

But we move on, we need to find a player for CM.

I guess we don’t need to sell to buy now. The accounts for PSR purposes run 1st July – 30th June…. so as long as we may that sale earlier in the summer window, we’d still be covered within this seasons accounts. Just puts us in a weaker selling position, but I guess we aren’t exactly in a strong selling position now.
