Here are the video highlights after Newcastle’s 3rd win in our last 4 games and it was a terrific 3-1 win at in-form Aston Villa.
Well, they were in form up until this game, when they looked poor by their own high standards this season.
But Newcastle are back to near their best, with an energetic and commanding performance where there were good performances from our players all over the pitch.
Fabian Schar scored a brace and it seems he and Dan Burn can score the goals for Newcastle even though they are in the back four.
Here are NBC Sports highlights of this terrific win for the Magpies.
We are at home against Luton Town on Saturday – 3:00pm KO – and we have to get all 3 points in that game.

Comment #41As an aside, I’ve never said that the repost is poor blog etiquette, I’m not a fan but will do it if I totally miss the bus, I prefer to notify I’ve left a post on the previous thread, if anyone wishes to read it then they can skip back. What is poor etiquette imo is the same thread repost, in fact it is barbaric, simply because if we all decided to leave a repost every 40 posts, we could have a situation where you had ten duplicate posts per page. That’s not cricket.

Comment #42“Emery’s reluctance to rotate – either through choice or design – suggests they have not got the depth to go the distance, either”
What do his secret admirers think of that 😕

Comment #44We enjoy the antics of Murphy, but I don’t think it is arrogance. I think he epitomises the belief the team have in themselves as a unit and it is certainly good to see it return. His personal return to the side has seen a bit of grit coming back to the overall performance of the side, which was highlighted by Miley last night.

Comment #45I mean why didn’t a big club come in for Schar pre takeover when they could have had him for relative peanuts Jail. He was great in a back 3 for Rafa, and no one other than us seemed to notice. I think he’s always been a top six footballer.

“Not unreasonable to think we can get 9 points from next 3 games.
What a shot in the arm that would be.”
That would indeed be good…. Err no make that fantastic!
“Season would definitely be back on. Just such a shame about Joelinton.”
Yes it would be a great shot in the arm! Makes me wonder how last nights game would have panned out with Big Joe playing? I thought our defence was A1 especially in the first half hour before we scored!

Comment #48As ever this season the next 3 games are going to be touch and go between injuries and suspension, with players returning and not over exposing them. Plus maintaining the fitness of the starting eleven to face the challenge of Arsenal away on the 20th.

My trouble is sometimes the flipping bus moves so fast I miss a trick or three.
Still got a very nice feeling of inner contentment with our win last night!

Comment #51Murphy adds a new dimension to our play he just does things quicker in the final 3rd when he plays because he’s on his stronger foot he tormented Moreno who is a top quality fullback
I saw a few complaints last night that Trippier doesn’t link up as good with him but for me that’s a good thing shouldn’t need to wait for a fullback to overlap all the time its too predictable
I also think Trippier has looked a lot more solid he’s not getting caught out because he’s not needing to fly forward all the time
Same with Miggy so much more direct and dangerous as its his natural position we would never score that 3rd goal as he would be trying to take it on his left foot to tap in and fluff it
Stick with same front 3 to start the game against Luton and ease Wilson back in later on

Comment #53Sorry Hibbit but bit of gloom from me for couple of reasons. First, last day of my contract today at a place I just love. Told going to be extended, but now issues with non clinical staff on contracts in NHS and no budget. Though told restructure and likely job from 1st April. Next one. Off to Keswick on Thursday for a week and a day, was going to come back on Saturday for the match, then head back over. My cousin from Southampton called me last week (sorry to some about this) his son and his girlfriend were lucky in ballot and got tickets for Luton, he didnt. I said, tell you what, you can have mine and I’ll just stay in Dog and Gun and drink old peculiar while I just listen to it. Now after last night, oh how I wish I was still going to the game. So that is my gloom over, just got to enjoy the beer and hope can pull a job off soon. Interview today, so never know

Comment #54Morning all, still on cloud nine after last night, what a performance.
Thank god we didn`t sell Miggy, we need all hands on deck to see the season out, especially now that we don`t have a striker available.
Miggy can be effective down the left while Gordon plays as a false nine.
Some pace in that front 3 with Murphy coming back in just at the right time.
Watching that game last night makes it so frustrating to think what on earth we would of done to Villla with a full strength team, i can`t footin wait until next season with a full compliment of fit players and some new additions in the summer,

Comment #55IF WE DON’T SIGN A STRIKER TODAY WE ARE F*CKED!
We can’t rely on two injury prone strikers. Should have signed someone in the summer, then we would probably still be in Europe and top 5 in the league. Just can’t believe if we have a whole month we just don’t do anything!!
Also people giving votes for Bruno as best player last night?? Wtf?

Comment #57Only Liverpool and City have scored more than us so dare I suggest that not signing a forward in the summer isn’t the main reason why we’re not top 5? However we would still be in Europe if we hadn’t been cheated in Paris!

Comment #59Lee have to say I’m a fan of Murphy. Love his directness and the fact that he is right footed and a bit of a character. Putting Miggy on the left was the obvious move as a sub and it may not happen again. But I’ll bet he loved it. Tino was the right sub at the right time ( or earlier ) and made a huge difference on Bailey. Decent player Bailey, a handful.

Comment #60Don’t think Isak will become a sick note, just needs a strike partner who isn’t constantly injured. So they can rotate and he can recover properly.
Got that weird thigh injury when he first signed that saw him out of action for a long time, but since then he’s had 2 groin issues. This latest groin injury is probably because he hasn’t fully recovered from the last one, due to Wilson not being available to cover for him.
He’ll be fine when he can rotate regularly with another striker and be able to fully rest and recover from any knocks or strains.

Comment #63With Barnes due back , Murphy hopefully over his shoulder injury, and Miggy staying, i think we could play Gordon through the middle while Isak and Wilson are out, providing Gordon doesn`t get a ban.
Iv`e never known injuries like this to any team, ever.

Comment #65Agree about Murphy, always love a player who enjoys every minute he’s on the pitch and who looks like his character is the same on it as off it.
Tino coming on was a big factor in us seeing that game out with relatively few problems. He’s gonna be a legend that kid.
Bit random but just after Watkins scored my heart rate was still 30bpm lower than it was in the first few minutes of the Sunderland match…no wonder I hate derbies.

I’m saving my judgement on Isak regarding injuries until we have another striker who’s consistently available to rotate with him.
Unfair to judge him regarding injuries when he’s constantly having to be the only striker available. Basically had to play every match 90 minutes since coming back from his groin issue, always going to be a chance it doesn’t fully recover.

Comment #67See Emery snubbed shaking Tindalls hand.
There were plenty of rumours that Emery was arrogant and fell out with staff during his time at Arsenal. Snubbing Tindall shows glimpses of that.
Glad we got Howe.
Villas only have 1 win in their last 5 now too. Is this the Emery drop in form I said could happen, like it did at Arsenal as well?

Simon… Good luck on the job front.
Adam… You could be right about Isak and really hope you are. As it stands it’s a bit of a concern with a definitely injury prone Wilson as our other main option.

Comment #70Adam mentioned that yesterday and why I’d said I had a sneak about getting a result there. There recent form hadn’t been great and their only win in those 5 was a late pen v 10 man Burnley.
Our recent form not great either but I think we’d started to show some signs of improvement lately.

Fingers crossed on Isak. Think we can’t judge until he has that reliable striker partner. Keeps on being forced to play whole matches week after week due to no back up available. Hard enough as it is, let alone when you’re coming back from a niggly injury like a groin strain.
Also yeah, Villa fans reckon their performances have been dipping for a while. Whereas we’re starting to get our performances back on track. Said a while back that Emery had a similar thing happen at Arsenal and I could see Villa slipping away, we’ll have to wait and see!

Comment #76Great result last night, have to admit, I didn’t see that coming.
I was even more concerned about where the 9+ minutes came from at the end ?
Few breaks in play, substitutions but 9 minutes !
Mind I did have four pints by the end and I am a lightweight….(Drinking) so maybe I am well off.

Comment #77Adam…It was always going to be difficult for them to keep going as they were, at some they were always going to have a bad run.
They have a good coach though and good players and normally a good crowd but they were really subdued yesterday. I’m sure they’ll still be there or thereabouts come the end of the season but hopefully below us even though it’s still a big ask. We’ll have a better idea after the next 3 matches I think.

I think teams have figured out the way to stop Villa now bit like when we hit a brick wall it’s up to the manager to adapt
I mean if they go on a heavy slump and we go on a run we could catch them up haha
Thoughts on Diaby anyone? Eveyrtime I have seen this season I was glad we bought Gordon over him hasnt really impressed me at all although I had my doubts after watching him in Germany
he doesn’t press or track back but Emery sets his team up to allow for that

Comment #79We do have a style that is good against Villa. Yes they play a high line and you often see the stat (it was trotted out on the TV coverage last night) that they have caught the opposition offside the most of any team…. what they fail to mention is that they have conceded the third most chances from through balls in all of Europe’s top 5 leagues.
Howe got the changes spot on last night. Tino made the difference on the left and we just crowded them out.
Miggy, as much as he is less of a goal threat from the left as he doesn’t seem to have the shot across the keeper like Murphy does, showed what we have lacked with him on the right. That pass across is key for how we play…Gordon and Barnes can use both feed from the left to play it and Murphy plays it well from the right…so was nice to see Miggy do it from that left hand side.

Comment #80Also when people say sign a 3rd choice striker I think if Barnes can stay fit with Almiron and Murphy Gordon will cement his place in the team
His appreciation of space and the runs he makes that’s top class forward play he can also hold the ball up which Wilson and Isak can’t do so it gives us a different dimension
Similar to Bellamy just needs to improve his finishing and then oaft what a worldly
