Aston Villa 1 Newcastle United 3 – Video Highlights From NBC Sports

Here are the video highlights after Newcastle’s 3rd win in our last 4 games and it was a terrific 3-1 win at in-form Aston Villa.

Well, they were in form up until this game, when they looked poor by their own high standards this season.

But Newcastle are back to near their best, with an energetic and commanding performance where there were good performances from our players all over the pitch.

Fabian Schar scored a brace and it seems he and Dan Burn can score the goals for Newcastle even though they are in the back four.

Here are NBC Sports highlights of this terrific win for the Magpies.

We are at home against Luton Town on Saturday – 3:00pm KO – and we have to get all 3 points in that game.

I’m not sure, he’s impressed me in a few games but equally has looked lost in others.

It’s so hard to tell how good a player will be for you as there is so much variation in what is expected even from people in the same position these days based on manager and system.

Next 3 matches are huge for sure. Very good chance at getting 9 points which could see us close the gap significantly to the teams above us. Villa will probably have ups and downs but be there or thereabouts. Wouldn’t surprise me if they fell away though. Their high defensive line is madness at times. Was obvious even before kick off that our front 3 with pace could expose it, which we did mainly through Gordon and deep runs from Miley time and time again.

Any team with a pacey attacking player can cause them serious problems with ease.

That does seem to be one thing Howe has learned since Liverpool exposed it. Our defensive line doesn’t seem to get caught out with a long ball over the top very often anymore.

Someone said there that Howe went 5 at the back in the last 20 minutes. Why did he not do it against Man City ?
Well, he will know that system and just about every other system.

It’s about having the cajones to do it. Be the cause and not the affect.

Difficult when Man City have a strong bench and we are struggling in that respect.

Good managers still find a way. I think of Old Big Head as far as that goes.

We cannot keep a high press all action game going for 90 minutes. Must have a good go to back up plan.
The better the opposition the harder it is to keep that all action game going.

You still have to be dangerous on the counter and I think we were.

Diaby hasn’t impressed me the times i’ve seen him at all.

How much did they pay for him? £50m or something?

    Nah, give me Gordon anyday.

Gordon is younger, has more goal contribtions, does the defensive work and cost less.

We 100% made the right call on that one.

    Third striker-gate.
My tuppence worth is that AG was supposed to play there to give Isak a rest when Wilson was crocked, HB getting injured has put way too much on AG who, imo should get our player of the year.

    @TS

That 3rd goal we scored was top class it’s the type of goal you see Liverpool score all the time

Everyone from the front 3 involved Gordon’s pass Miggys run and super cross with a tap in for Murphy impossible to defend against because nothing slows down no one taking an extra touch etc

Aye Diaby similar to a lot of Bundesliga players they do well in open games but when teams try to mark him out the game looks lost think he shat it when Burn was all over him haha

Imagine if HB starts on the LW, AG can then come on to replace Isak against Fulham, then get his place back last night, Isak withdrawn on 70 minutes, AG goes up top and HB comes on. That was the way.

That’s also the way I saw it Gordon is unofficially the 3rd option and that’s maybe why they are reluctant to go into the market knowing that Barnes , Anderson etc should be back soon who can play wide left

The difference I think was we didn’t have Tino for the Man City game. It would have either meant bringing Hall on at left back, which given his lack of game time makes me think he isn’t trusted, or it would have been bringing Lascelles into the middle, but not sure that helped.

It made sense against Villa as Bailey was just running Burn ragged, but against City, the problem we had was space in midfield, and we didn’t have any real options to change it.

Yeah. I don’t mind a left footer on the right, but they need to be capable of playing a pass on the break with either foot, it’s so critical for our style of play this season.

And agree on the Bundesligsa, it’s a much more transitional, open game most of the time. Plenty of players can adapt but it’s different when you come up against a team who just sit in.

I’m less worried about our options across the front 3. I think that Murphy looks well after 2 games, no obvious shoulder weakness there. So we have two Murphy, Miggy, Gordon, Wilson very soon, Barnes very soon and then Isak hopefully not out long. We should hopefully have enough there.

The biggest worry is CM still. Yes Willock isn’t far away but he’s had two long spells out this season. Anderson is constantly have his return pushed back too. Bruno is a yellow away from a 2 game ban, so I still would love us to be able to get somebody in.

Adam… Yeah pace was the key yesterday, Villa struggled and didn’t adapt to try and counter it and it cost them dear.
Ref Diaby I really wanted him but there’s no way I’d swap Gordon for him. He’s ok in fits and starts but at other times he offers nowt. Gordon is head and shoulders above him imo, especially in our system of play.

Once Tino came on and nullified Bailey the game was in the bag, well done Eddie, bested a top quality coach.

Top of the morn folks 😀 😀

Did that really happen last night!! Absolutely an incredible performance against all the odds, even with an injury -ravaged squad those lads never let their heads drop. Last night was a masterclass by both the team and of course Eddie Howe.

against Fulham and yesterday he calmly got on with his game just about going un- noticed

Not really sure what’s changed but Villa couldn’t play through the middle either and I think Bruno being more disciplined made the difference

He wasn’t charging down goal keepers or centre half’s leaving big gaps!

Everytime they played a pass where a 6 should be he was there winning the ball cleanly

Just felt there was lot of little tactical adjustments that we haven’t seen in a long time so we can only assume the extra training days are the difference makers ?

So many times you could see players making runs from deep to beat their offside trap and then Gordon looking to for the ball through when he was in the middle. Good stuff.

Shame about your NHS post coming to an end ‘though it seems there’s hope for April. As far as the NHS concerned, well….. Fingers crossed on both counts.

Your regret at missing the Luton match’s understandable and a night on the OP isn’t really an adequate substitute. A much underestimated drink though might just sweeten the pill.

Down side is the digital tickets now, always used to get him some for games down south, but not so easy anymore

As for the 9 mins, just cant understand it, I though about 5 were due, when 9 was said, so shocked. There was me thinking is that because they got 1 back and so close and lets face it, unlucky to get 2nd ruled out, so maybe could have time to get at least a draw. But that’s just being silly isnt it, I hope

    Simon,

After catching up I see your contract in your employment finished. A lot of the time if it’s a FTC (fixed term contract) they will extend it or make you permanent staff at the end of the contract. However as it’s the NHS they are counting the pennys and have clearly not got the funds to extend on a PO. This is typical of the NHS where they’re losing so many good people because of the costs they are trimming. No wonder they’re complaining of staff shortages.

I do hope you are successful very soon with securing a job. It’s a job in itself at times finding a new role/job – All the very best to you and your endeavours, I’m sure it won’t be too long and you will be grafting again. Also fair play given your ticket up on Saturday. Nice touch that 😉

Just listened to the Craig hope YouTube post someone kindly put on.

He reckons Barnes will be in the squad on Saturday. How big will that be?!!

Murphy coming back has made a huge difference. He’s not a great player, but he’s a good player and just having the extra options now is so significant. To have Barnes in that mix now too will help massively.

I put Barnes in the category too. Not a great player like Gordon, Isak, Bruno etc, but a good player.

    Next up-

    3 wins.

Just caught up with a couple of responses last night.

If Southgate doesn’t take Gordon to the Euros, he’s robbing the nation of a chance of the cup.

He is by a mile the best left sided player in the league. Better than Grealish and Rashford easily.

Yet I have an awful feeling Southgate won’t take him.

I’m still buzzing about last night .
It’s great to see the Villa fans rave about Gordon .
Saying they would swap Diaby any day love it and just shows the brilliant job Ashworth and our scouting team have done with transfers .
Eddie totally outclassed Emery last night, even with our depleted squad, and losing our main striker in the first half.
    Emery didn’t have a plan A not alone a plan B ffs.
They had four natural Centre Midfielders who couldn’t handle our 3 man Midfield, which was short, Big Joe ,Tonali, and Willock .
