In what was one of our best performances away from home all season Newcastle pressed Aston Villa and the Villains lost at home for the first time in the league this season and the first time in almost a year at Villa Park.
The game plan of Eddie Howe worked almost perfectly from the kickoff and it’s the kind of uplifting win we needed.
I watched some Vlogs from Villa fans after the game last night, and they were very hard on their side but said that Newcastle were just so much better in almost every department.
That’s high praise indeed and this was an unexpected and brilliant result from our boys.
After the game this is what head coach Eddie Howe told TNT Sports:
“It’s sort of mixed emotions for me because I look at that team tonight and the way we played, and I think it’s an elite team that is capable of achieving great things.”
“The mixed emotions part is that we haven’t seen that for several weeks and it’s been a really challenging period for us.”
“A number of injuries, the team has looked disjointed. Today we looked much more like ourselves.”
“We had players that had been injured come back and had a bit of game time now and I think that’s showing in their performances.”
“When you’re in my shoes and you’re coaching and managing the team, you want to see a team that is linked to how you want them to play.”
“Most importantly is the spirit and determination to do well and execute our best level.”
“And I think that has been there, I just think the frustration has been that we’ve just looked a little bit off color.”
“We haven’t looked fluent for reasons that sometimes have been beyond the players’ control.
“But today I saw the identity that we were looking for.”
“We know every game is so tough but of course, we hope to use this as a springboard to get back our very best levels consistently.”
“I don’t know (if any players will leave before Thursday night), I mean, I don’t think so at this late stage,”
“I think I’d be more than happy for the window to shut with no ins or outs.”
The game plan Eddie Howe has for the game was apparent very quickly and we pushed Villa with a high line and gave them very little time on the ball.
When Newcastle play like this we look to be a very good team indeed.
It’s Luton Town at home on Saturday but they basically took Brighton apart at home last night 4-0 and beat Everton 2-1 away in their previous.
No Premier League game is easy to win, but we really hope we can keep our momentum going and get all 3 points in that home game which will be another complete sell-out at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle United look to be back in business and we still have injured players out.
Howay The Lads!!
Let’s know what you think.

Comment #6Re Emery, in fairness he was very complimentart towards us at interview afterwards, unlike one or two others. Not sure what happened with Mad Dog 🙂
I think people giving him a hard time on here are overlooking the point that he is an excellent manager, way up the league with plenty of silverware in his locker.
No answers last night though 🙂

Comment #7Adam, I do think Isak is brittle. He hasnt had to do an inordinate amount in terms of the last two games and he broke down again.
He certainly needs a back up but personally i think we will see him being a fairly regular casualty. Just my tuppence.

I don’t think anyone is giving him a hard time because of who he is, just the way people have ‘questioned’ Eddie H while fawning over Emery.
