Eddie Howe – There’s Nothing Going To Happen Before Transfer Window Closes

It’s difficult for Newcastle these days, because whenever we get something great happening – like last night’s 3-1 win at Aston Villa, something negative also happens.

And last night it was Alexander Isak feeling his groin again, and telling coach Eddie Howe he had to come off even before halftime.

Miggy Almiron came on in his place, and although Eddie Howe said he was only 50% fit through illness, the Paraguayan International put in an excellent shift for Newcastle, setting up the vital 3rd goal early in the second half.

We hope Callum Wilson will be fit soon, and in any case, Anthony Gordon can play up front as he did when he was voted the best player in the European U21 tournament last summer.

Almiron, Gordon, and Murphy were the three up front in the second half last night, and apparently, Harvey Barnes is also very close to returning.

We were hoping Wilson and Isak would both be fit together, but it looks like that will not happen.

We still don’t know how serious Isak’s injury is – and the Newcastle medics will need to sort that out quickly in case it’s long-term.

This is what Eddie Howe said after the match last night about the transfer window:

“I expect to be finished for the window. I think there’s now very little time left to be able to do anything, whether in or out.”

“That’s where it stands. I don’t think we have the ability to do anything.”

“As far as I know at the moment, there’s nothing going to happen, although there’s still time left.”

We’d be happy enough if no business is done before Thursday night.

Hopefully, we can get more players returning to help out the side for the remainder of the season, which could turn out to be a lot better than we expected just a few weeks ago.

    Nicky,
You’re two major signings brought to transform the team going missing about 8 games in is going to affect any team.

Yeah, CL campaign and domestic games without Tonali and Barnes, and we still so very nearly went through, and probably should have. It’s been hard to bear, but we are gonna be fine.

Hopefully Isak isn’t out too long, but Gordon is a more than decent enough short term replacement. Isak, Wilson and Gordon are all high quality, the problem is more the side adjusting to Gordon up top, because he plays more as a false nine.

Also playing him through the middle means less options out wide of course.

Will both Wilson and Barnes make the bench this weekend?

    Let’s hope so.

So happy to Murph back. He’s good.

I don’t think Isak is injury prone, as some are saying .
I tend to agree with Adam that he has no one to help take the pressure off with Wilson being so injury prone .
He has fewer injury days than say Haaland ,Nunez or Kane.
For a pacy striker, his injury record ain’t bad at all.

People talk about our crown jewels in Isak, Botman and Bruno, surely AG has to be on that list now.

Adam im trying to say i dont think his emotions were too high because he was extremely complimentary of us in his interview and he seemed very calm and relaxed.

Its probably because he just doesnt like him and its understanable. He does wind a lot of people up. Im not saying he was right or wrong to not shake his hand, im just giving an explanation as to why he possibly didnt want to. Could be anything. Who knows!

Lots of Villa fans giving us credit for last night so they don`t all hate us eh 🙂

Iv`e already got my team picked for Luton, and Miggy is on the left.
It was fate Miggy never went this window, Isak getting injured meaning Gordon playing as a dangerous false 9 and Miggy as his stand in on the left is a no brainer for me, saying as we have no footer else to play through the middle.

There is a rail strike on Friday? I’ve just an hour ago booked a first class return train ticket from trainline at a cost of £188. I’ve a very important meeting to attend in Edinburgh on Friday and absolutely Nothing was mentioned about any rail strikes after speaking with the contractors I’m meeting or the company I’ve just booked them through…Is it all trains effected do you know mate?

Got a call from a pal who lives in Corbridge and he had to cancel a session with me in Toon on Friday because the trains are on strike,
If you are going to Edinburgh you might be ok but i would check if i were you.
Different rail companies are striking on different days apparently.

I have to admit ive been so wrong about Gordon i was very underwhelmed when he signed and didnt think hed be anything special, even when he started to show signs i still thought he cant score. But hes really turning into a star player. They got it so so right with him.

We badly need another Gordon for the right hand side now.

    WLtoon,

Many thanks for the heads up. I’ll start looking into this. I’m very surprised they alllow you to book tickets if they’re bloody striking. Or at least provide a warning of potential disruption on the day and where or which trains before booking. Quick enough to take the ££££ they’re 🙄

WTF is sorrow saying now #96. He is as daft as the troll howling and barking at the moon. It’s obvious they’re the same delinquent. Has far too much time on its hands. I’ve noticed they all go missing every 2 weeks on a Tuesday as it must be giro day where they go on the peeve and spend every penny on special brew, then finish it off with a slap up xxxL donner kebab and cheesy chips.

Whilst we haven’t signed any senior players this window, these returning players are sure going to feel like new signings. It’s exciting what we could see in the forward positions.
    Barnes/Miggy/Gordon left
    Gordon/Miggy/Murphy right
    Isak/Wilson /Gordon up top
    Midfield we’ll have
    Willock/Anderson/Hall/
    White/Harrison left
    Bruno/Hernes centre
    Miley /Longstaff/Tino right

    WLtoon,

It looks like LNER are striking on the Friday, they’re who I’m travelling with so I could well be affected. It maybe that the train may resemble an Indian train from Mumbai to Deli where every f**** are hanging off the sides.

I’ll keep an eye on proceedings. Many thanks again for the heads up fella 😉

Amd omfg hes so fit and never gets injured. Think of the shher number of games hes played in the ladt 6 months its remarkable how hes stayed injury free.
