Here is the match cam (behind-the-scenes) video of our great 3-1 win at Villa Park last night, which was Villa’s first home defeat of the season in the league.
And they had gone 11 months since their last league defeat at home.
It was an excellent result for us, when we needed it most, and Eddie Howe’s game plan was excellent and we expect other clubs to copy what Newcastle did last night.
Villa played very narrowly in a 4-2-2-2 formation and Newcastle exploited that by using our wingers effectively, and with balls over the top.
Here’s the match cam video.

Comment #122I can’t wait till Barnes is fully fit because I think the way we play he will cause havoc and score a tonne of goals
See all those little snidey goals that Salah scores where he sneaks in for a deflected tap in and you are screaming why did we not stop that? Barnes will get those type of goals which will decide close games
Also he’s amazing for playing 1-2s him and Bruno will have a slick move together soon
Just got to stay bloody fit though

This might go against the flow a bit, but I will say it anyway.
Villa made 3 subs on 63 minutes. It caused us problems and nearly got them back in the game.
Howe made a sub with Livramento and went 5 at the back. Not until 71 minutes.
By then they had a goal, an off side goal and on one occasion our keeper was rounded and fortunatly we had a defender who got back.
Seems reluctant to change things in a dynamic situation, while the game is in progress.
It could well have cost us.

Comment #125We must get the balance right against Luton.
They showed against Brighton what they can do.
We must learn from the Forest game 100%.

There’s a potentially great player but he has to want to be one a bit similar to Toney maybe he needs a fresh start to become that player ?
But yeah high risk for sure

Comment #130I am sure PSG want rid of him and there were rumours they would even do it for no fee just to not have him around. Must be his manager spreading rumours after the night out with Rashford.

Comment #131He might indeed have something to prove and if he has an attitude I am sure Eddie would have him training with the reserves in a heartbeat. This is the day of surprises and letdowns. 🙂

Comment #132Only £50m spent by premier league teams so far this window, down from £730m in 2023!
Some clubs survive from transfers so something needs to change!

Lascelles has been interesting Besiktas all month, and the Turkish side have made renewed contact today to discuss a deal.
With the Turkish transfer window remaining open until next week, Besiktas do not have to finalise a deal for the Newcastle skipper ahead of tonight’s UK 11pm deadline.

Comment #141Was just watching Al hilal beat inter Miami, of Messi fame.
Hadn’t realised that big mitro plays for that team now as well as neves.
And, Neymar too! How about we bring him over?
Not sure we can match his annual salary.
Go on, guess.
219 million dollars a year!!
What’s the irony?
PIF, our owners, own Al Hilal. Our owners are paying some dude 200 million a year!
Were it not for FFP, we would’ve signed Mbappe by now I’m sure.

It’s just that, about a hundred clubs like ours are looking for the next Mbappe. As well as the Liverpools, Cities etc.
They’ll need to miss him it overlook him, while we outfox them.
Can it happen? Sure, happens all the time.
A smaller team discovers the next Mbappe. Then a big club says, oops we missed him. Let’s buy him now.
And so it goes, on and on.

Comment #146AnyToon, maybe Kuol was never going to be that great as he only cost a few hundred thousand compared to Harrison who’s final outlay will be £3.5 million. I wonder if we signed Kuol to try to get in to the Aussie market.

Comment #155With a bit of luck we’ll get through the rest of the campaign with fewer injury problems. We can do well if Willock, Anderson and Barnes all contribute. Sixth and deep in the Cup is on.
I think we have a good squad, certainly will when Tonali returns and if Hall actually is a 30 million pound player having been given a season to develop.
The problem I think is fitness and availability. If we run so hard we need more depth, then fringe players who are coming off contract need to be released and upgraded. The way we play, we need a proper deep, balanced, quality 25 to sustain it.
I’d like another centre forward next term as a priority, to challenge and cover Isak, with Wilson as a third choice, and excellent option of the bench.
Give us that, Tonali back in the fold, and more from Hall, then I see us doing very well. Eddie needs to be better able to rotate the squad, that’s quite clear, and to do that he needs two or three more players he has full confidence in.

But man he creates chances for himself and is a superior level finisher

Comment #158Yeah, I also think Barnes is top notch. We’ve basically been without 3 genuine frontline first team players in Barnes, Tonali and Willock all term, and now Joel along with Pope.
Ouch, that’s a whole lot of genuine depth and quality, just right there, to go with the six and seven others who’ve been out for long periods, intermittently. Brutal.
