Match Cam Video: Aston Villa 1 Newcastle United 3

Here is the match cam (behind-the-scenes) video of our great 3-1 win at Villa Park last night, which was Villa’s first home defeat of the season in the league.

And they had gone 11 months since their last league defeat at home.

It was an excellent result for us, when we needed it most, and Eddie Howe’s game plan was excellent and we expect other clubs to copy what Newcastle did last night.

Villa played very narrowly in a 4-2-2-2 formation and Newcastle exploited that by using our wingers effectively, and with balls over the top.

Here’s the match cam video.

“Manchester United have loaned four of their kids to local non-league clubs in a unique arrangement. All four will continue to train and be free to play for United’s Under-21s team but will couple that with gaining experience of ‘adult’ football.”

I don’t know how this works in terms of player registrations.
But if it is allowed then it should be worth considering for our Academy players and perhaps be more beneficial to International players like Garang Kuol.

Yeah Isaac Hayden is an interesting one, because he was very good for us under both Rafa and Steve Bruce, and developed at Arsenal under Wenger and their passing game and fluid movement. My guess is his injuries have robbed him of a yard, and Eddie Howe doesn’t think he can cope with the pace he demands we play at.

Also I guess we really needed a left sided box to box mid, and Hayden’s a pivot.

Athletic Newcastle a match for old-school power

After a dodgy period, Newcastle might just be on the way back, giving Manchester City a run for their money before winning away at Fulham, in the Cup, and Villa, in the league in midweek. They were particularly impressive in dealing with Unai Emery’s side, the direct, intelligent running of Anthony Gordon making him the best of a very good bunch. But where Villa’s high defensive line is inviting for players with his pace and drive, Luton will not be as accommodating, fresh off a commanding midweek triumph – their third in five league games. Though the first victory in that run came over Newcastle it was recorded at Kenilworth Road and Eddie Howe’s side, 14th in the away-record table, are fourth in the home version. Moreover, with a team full of imposing athletes who ask physical questions of opponents they are well equipped to deal with the Hatters’ old-school style. Expect them to continue their recent improvement.

You have to admit. Incredible game last night.

85th minute, Man u well in control 3-1 up. Then, a goal for Wolves.

Tension, but not much time left, already playing extra time, albeit it’s 9 minutes.

Neto (a real good player) gets the equaliser. It’s over, surely. A couple minutes of extra time remaining, Manchester had substituted for defenders, not forwards.

Then, a young lad I’ve never seen, Mainoo, steps up and scores a great goal after eliminating the Wolves defence by himself.

If I supported Wolves I’d probably not watch football for a couple of weeks, to get over this.

For the neutral*, what a game. That’s what football is about man.

*I’m not quite that. I needed Man u to lose and I have a soft spot for the wolves.

I’m kind of glad Hayden as gone on loan as it would have been criminal if he’d stayed here and not been in the squad, they’ve obviously got very good reasons for not wanting him here and I don’t think it’s personal given Eddie H rang him weekly while injured at Norwich. I can only think that they might possibly be naming this Alfie Harrison on the bench, what a story that would be.

I can’t remember the opinions on a player being so split, seemed like a genuine 50/50 on those saying Hayden would have been better than nobody and those saying simply not good enough and would rather have a youth player who’d spent the last two years in League Two. Funny auld game.

Noticeably no joy or boyish enthusiasm evident in that photo of Miggy. In fact he looks like a man who has just experienced his first betrayal – the club he loves and who he runs his heart out for every single moment of every single match, shopping him around behind his back for quick money, and fans like me approvin

Without checking would there be space in the squad for Hayden?
He’s started 18 games in the last 2 seasons playing in piss poor teams in piss poor leagues.
Apart from the above, and more importantly Eddie doesn’t rate him otherwise he wouldn’t have been farmed on loan. Harsh but true imo.

The people wanting Hayden to stay will be the first ones to moan if things go wrong.
    The shudda kept Hayden brigade.
The fact Eddie brought Joe White back to strengthen that area and has sent Hayden back out on loan speaks volumes.
Hayden hasn’t played for us for years so why would he be such a miss now?

    hahaha

Just watched highlights of the games from last night.

What a belter of a performance from Phillips…..not!

Thank christ we didn’t sign him like some fans wanted. Looked rusty as hell last night and would have taken weeks to get up to speed and the levels Howe demands. By the time he was anywhere near ready, we’d have our midfield back.

    Bullet dodged.

Simply not true, I was very much in the keep Hayden ‘brigade’ as I see him as better than Matt Ritche in that position, how could I have possibly complained about them keeping him after being so vocal about wanting them to, a bit of bullish opnion pushing there me thinks.
”so why would he be such a miss now?” Really, you have to ask that, we have three(four???) fit CM’s and one is about to face a two match ban, one is a LB who the manager won’t play, one is 17 years old and the other is as likely as not to get a knock that will keep him out for a few games.

I’m happy with what we have for the rest of the season. Looks like the focus is firmly on youth now, sprinkled with a few genuinely class slightly older players. See Turner Cooke came back from his loan spell also yesterday.

Can’t really judge him from his first game when he’s barely trained with them. Let’s see how it pans out the rest of the week.

Coincidently, West Ham seem to have a number of players we were linked with and a few of us wanted.

Maybe he’ll end up being good for them. But I wasn’t convinced he’d be good for us, so not convinced he’ll be good for them either.

    Let’s wait and see.

Quinny…I was just about to say about his injury record(touched on it earlier with amount of appearances he’d managed). His knees have gone, they haven’t coped with playing in a slower paced, less physical league. If anyone thinks he’d cope with what Eddie demands in a faster Premier league well…
He’s been a good honest pro and a ‘decent’ player for us but that’s it. He still has 2.5yr left on his contract but I’d be shocked if he ever plays for us again. I wish him all the best .

Klopp is an exceptional coach/manager, truly world class so you can’t do anything other than admire and respect that side of him. Unfortunately he’s also a massive d!ckhead and is obnoxious in general. I’ll be glad to see the back of him in the EPL for all the good and bad reasons above.
