We haven’t seen too much of Sandro Tonali lately, although he has been training regularly with the squad.
Hopefully, he is understanding with his year off just what a special football club Newcastle United is.
And we look forward to Sandro hitting the ground running at the start of next season, as he will know all about the way Eddie Howe wants him and Newcastle to play.
Assuming we can hold onto Joelinton in the summer, we have some very good central midfield players, especially when you think Joe Willock has only played 6 games this season, the same number as Tonali.
Here are some of the players including Tonlai enjoying a game of darts.
When football meets darts! The lads swapped the pitch for the oche as we mark the start of #PLDarts… ??

Comment #12Transfer sage, i think personally we will look to bring in serious quality for RW, decent young player with bags of potential for forward, serious quality for LB, And possibility seriously quality for CB or possibly a young player with bags of potential whos goid enough to slot in, exactly like we might get at Striker.
Im not convinced a midfielder will be the highest priority come the summer with players like Tonali and Willock and Joelinton likely to feature much more.
I think in order it will be RW,ST,LB,CB then a midfielder or possibly a young GK if one pops up that they like.

Comment #15Fantasty Football query anybody:- why was Gordon not given an assist for our second goal at Villa. Gordon’s shot hit the bar and Schar put in the rebound?

I am not sure why the assist was taken away, but I have Gordon on my team and initially he was given an assist and I saw the FFP points awarded. But they were taken away later.

Comment #19Martoon i presume it wasnt an assist because the Villa defender touched it on itscway towards the goal. Thats why it schar wasnt ruled offside and it was given.

It took a deflection off the Villa player I believe.
Irish Rob
Although that wouldn’t have stopped it being offside as it wouldn’t be considered deliberately playing the ball. Fortunately Matty Cash was laid on his backside pretty much on the dead ball line when Gordon too his shot. I’d attach a screenshot but can’t here haha.

Also on the midfielder, I think we’re desperate for a 6. Bruno is the only one who can play that position, if he was ever out for a period of time, we’d have nobody there.
I’d either like to see a talented younger play come in who can do that (talking more around the ages 21/22). Ideally Onana from Everton. Would allow Bruno to be rested or even pushed a little further forward at times if they played together.
Tonali, Joelinton, Miley, Willock and Longstaff are all number 8s.

Comment #22According the the link I provided @17, the ball came off the crossbar, hit the keeper, Martinez on the back, which changed the ball trajectory towards Schar. Thus no assist for AG.

Comment #23Speaking of players being robbed of an assist, on the third goal Miggy put in a fantastic cross, which if Murphy had hit cleanly, would have been an assist. But because Murphy missed the ball with his foot and hit it with his body and bungled it into the defender, who then ended up getting an OG, poor Almiron was robbed of an assist.
I can’t tell you how many assists Miggy might have had over the past few years, had other players hit the target. Some of them have been absolute sitters, that have been skied over the bar or been shanked wide. Point being that these missed chances have exaggerated poor Almiron’s stats, adding to the notion that he has no end product!

It’s why assists are a poor metric that aren’t really used outside of simple TV coverage or article write ups.
Chance creation stats are way more valuable as if you have the best player in the world putting in on a plate for some donkey who misses everything, it would reflect their quality.

Comment #25IrishRob; Schär was not given offside because Matty Cash was playing him onside, after picking himself up of the floor. It had nothing to do with the deflection following Gordon’s shot.

Comment #34Miley and Gordon on the left are as good Willock and Joelinton were last season. this is the main difference from the settled side that did so well last season now that the back 4 of last season are all back. the last 2 games the team have looked like last season.

Comment #35TS both Tonali and Bruno are Great in that position as well as 8(both) I dunno playing a 3 man midfield thevway we do its very hard to see them buy anthother midfielder because doing that effectively leaves, Joelinton, Willock, Longstaff, Anderson, Miley all on the bench. For that reason i just dont see them buying another for now. It would mean none of the above would ever start for our strongest starting 11, seems an awful waste leaving them all on bench.
We will wait and see, i could be wrong but I’ve a niggling feeling ill be right on this one.

Comment #36On the offside, it would have been very close if there was no deflection, and the commentator himself was worried it was just off until he seen the deflection. Im only going by what he said, im not saying it wasnt going to be a goal, but way the commentator was talking sounded like it would have gone to var if no deflection, i dunno wasnt watching it that closely personally.

Comment #40Davas…Aye and Schär was well on, there was a Newcastle player near Cash (can’t remember who) but even he was inside and even if he hadn’t been he wasn’t interfering with play anyway as him and cash were way off to the side of the goal…I think.
