Newcastle Must Do Better – We Must Not Let The Season Die

We were looking forward to Newcastle getting all 3 points at home to Luton last Saturday.

After all, we had just visited Aston Villa and won 3-1 and that was their first league defeat in almost a year and they were 4th top of the league.

Four days later, we are at home to Luton, who are 4th bottom of the league and they had won only 5 league games all season, one at home to Newcastle by a scoreline of 1-0.

And what happens?

We score first through Longstaff then Luton equalize and we then go up 2-1, again through Longstaff, and then they equalise after 40 minutes and the score is 2-2 at the break.

Newcastle had a chance to get a tight hold on the game in that first half, but our defense again looked far too porous.

Luton went ahead after 59 minutes when Burn couldn’t keep pace with his winger and he pulled the man down for a penalty.

And then, would you believe it, Luton went further ahead after 62 minutes and we had suddenly conceded 4 goals at home to the 4th bottom side, who to be fair have been in top form over the last few games.

So with about 30 minutes left, Newcastle were 4-2 down, but the fight of this team has never been in doubt and two good goals, one from Trippier and one from Harvy Barnes got us the point.

Other sides may well have collapsed when 4-2 down in that situation, but not this Eddie Howe side.

But what has happened to Newcastle’s defense, which seems to have gone to hell in a handbasket since Nick Pope went out injured?

That’s not a reflection on Dubravka, who has been in decent to good form of late but could have done better with two of the goals on Saturday.

But it’s not down to one man, and we are nowhere near as secure at the back as we were last season, and Eddie Howe now has a week to prepare the team for the trip to Nottingham Forest.

Remember Forest beat us 3-1 at home on Boxing Dat when we were going through that awful spell of results.

Dan Burn does not have the speed to handle speedy wingers and that was there for all to see on Saturday when his lack of pace directly cost us two goals.

But we doubt that Eddie Howe will drop him, since he’s good at corners at both ends and he has experience.

We do have Tino Livramento, who would improve quickly if given a run in the first team at left-back.

Or even bring in our reliable Swedish International  Emil Krafth at right back, and move Trippier over to left back.

It looks like Nottingham Forest could be another banana skin, but Eddie Howe is good at preparing the side, when he has the time, and he has a full week for our next game.

The 4-4 draw was a classic and exciting game for the neutral, but we aren’t neutral and Newcastle needed the win.

🙂

However,  we can still finish top six if we can put a string of wins together.

Note: I had some health problems over the weekened which is why I was not on the blog.

You wouldn’t be surprised if we get top 4 again next season. In fact expect the unexpected next season. We can still get European football this season and have a Liverpool finish to the season which they achieved last season.

Watch the wums disappear like farts in a wind one by one. Keep believing is all I can say and I’m sure many believe still on here and ignore the wums. Sad cnuts is all they’re and the most useless things imaginable.

Botman was to blame for their 4th goal ?

What a load of nonsense. One break of the ball to them and in an instant it’s 4 against 3. Burn and Trippier both well up the field and no where to be seen.

Bruno signalled to Botman to go out wide ? Way too late for him the react to that.

Schar had Barclay covered. No he didn’t.

Listen. One ball from Luton and we were done.
Just like the last ten minutes against a ten man Liverpool.
That was way before injuries by the way.

    Same again against Forest.

You can’t blame Botman. You might say he could have done better, but come on he should not have been put in that position in the first place. Damned if he did damned if he didn’t.

Thou shall not have a go at Howe or Burn. Give it rest.

    Oops
Yeah changed to Monday March 11th

    But the
Premier League did commit to giving supporters a minimum of six weeks’ notice (from the first match in the relevant month) on broadcast selections until December 2023, and five weeks’ from January 2024 until Match Round 37.’

It is now Monday 5 February 2024 and Newcastle United and only gave the fans 33 days notice.

The fans are being treated like some sort of commodity. The answer is for the club to block book and pay for hotels in central London and for them to be filled with our away fans in full voice all night long . The London neighbours will soon protest. Mr.Khan will want answers when Trafalgar Square is bought to a halt by 5,000 sightseers .
Whatever happened to trains just for supporters, not difficult for LNER to run.

BDB is a pro footballer and can take the criticism that he is due.

As rightly pointed out by many, he can get beat for pace if isolated and he has been targetted tactically.

One thing to be said of the modern game that it is for the full backs to get forward and overlap at times. BDB does his part. On the right almiron or murphy do this quite well with trippier. Have to say though that on the left side we dont use it near as much with Burn. On occasiin though he does try to overlap and rarely if ever is he given the ball. Our inverted winger always cuts back to the middle and i think most teams know this. Its not a decoy if they know you wont use it. We try to force the ball to the middle and rarely use the width to get to the byline. On the right side we’ll use tripps but on the left we just rarely do it.

Anyhow, misplaced passes aside and midfield errors and fatibue just something in our routine play that seems to me that can expose our backline at times.

A sad freak of nature and by far the creepiest troll this blog has ever had calling a successful professional athlete/footballer pathetic. Hahaha I’m sure Schar would be gutted.

Schar must be one of the best signings in EPL history for what he has achieved under Eddie especially and for such a low price of £3million. He is a great player and professional who nearly got a hatrick against Villa in a huge win. There are some real idiots on here. Fortunately most of us a decent human beings with good football knowledge.

I thought my FPL week was going well with my captain choice in Watkins…up 20 points and then go and get outdone by a Captain Foden hat trick….another disappointing loss just when I was creeping back up into the top half. Sounds so familiar. 😉

Schar can be very good and very bad, in the same match. Makes great runs, can pass and score. But sometimes isn’t aggressive enough in defence and can be found to be not tracking runners. Goal number 2 with Barclay a case in point.
But he is still worth keeping.

Anyway, well done Munster for finding a podcast that speaks about everything you want to hear, it must be music to your ears finding other fans that like to slate the team and target people like you as their audience. I read Nufc.com and listen to Pod on the Tyne with Caulkin and Waugh, no blaming Howe, recruitment or the medical staff, just talking about the game from two top writers at the Athletic. I guess you just listen to what you want to hear.

Raj is spot on there is a lot more to this than meets the eye.

Put it this way this fan doesn’t have the support and following across the wider social media that she does on here.

There’s always more to things that meets the eye.

Apparently she’s deleted (as she would) some of the more offensive tweets, someone did managed to find one of hers with a picture of a giant pair of shears boasting she’d shredded a trans flag, that is not the behaviour of a right minded individual and if someone in her community has complained about that then the club have acted.

If that Podcast doesn’t use injuries as an excuse then they certainly aren’t being “critical, fairly” at all. Obviously it is not the only excuse, mistakes have been made but it certainly is the main reason and if people can’t or won’t see that then I despair really and they’re buying the pundits bullish!t.
Andy Townsend said “yes Newcastle have injuries but so does everyone else this time of year” True but our injuries didn’t start this time of year you fookwit, it’s being going on for months ffs. Andy fookin Gray a few weeks back “Newcastle can’t complain about injuries today, that starting 11 is almost their first choice 11”, it was missing 3 or 4 players ffs. Apart from owt else it’s not just about the starting 11, it’s the ability to be able to change things from the bench, that day the bench was 2 keepers, the pensioners and kids.
No one has had the injuries we’ve had, even if they had they weren’t competing in 4 fronts. Also don’t forget the greedy 6 who often compete on 4 fronts have spent years and years building squads which are able to do so and cope better with injuries. We’re 2 years into a rebuild after 14 years of Ashley.
There’s gonna be bumps in the road but we’re a club on the up, it’s gonna be a rollercoaster at times, just enjoy it!

Your reply at #85, I didn’t say Howe or Burn can’t be blamed or not ‘had a go at’. My point was that some players get more of a ‘free pass’ when they make mistakes as opposed to players like Burn. Who any mistake gets instantly torn apart.

Your reply kind of proves my point, as you’re excusing Botmans mistake even though he had plenty of time to react faster to the danger and Brunos instruction. If that was Burn, would he be given the same excuse? I’m not so sure.

“You can’t blame Botman. You might say he could have done better, but come on he should not have been put in that position in the first place. Damned if he did damned if he didn’t.”

Again, this is excusing one player, where the same could have been said for many instances Burn has been in. Should he be left 1 vs 1, wheres the support from the winger? Shouldn’t be put in that position in the first place. When he’s too up field? Pretty sure people moaned about him not providing any attacking threat previously too.

I’m not saying Burn or Howe or anyone can’t be blamed, far from it. I’m saying the total opposite.

If people want to point fingers at their mistakes, at least be balanced and do it to other players too, when they make a mistake. Not just pick a scapegoat.

    1) The PL have been found out to monitoring the tweets of everyone who is interested in football. Wrong -> should be end of conversation. They need to be stopped.

    2) The PL have shared tweets of this woman, where information can be gleaned as to her home address (or at least the area in which she lives), and similar for he place of work. Nothing she hadn’t given away herself over a period of time, but to trawl her backlog, put together a dossier and share the info? Wrong -> They need to be stopped

    3) The PL by their actions have appeared to take sides in an increasingly acrimonious spat between the Lesbian and Trans communities. Welcome to the “TERF” wars. Wrong -> Who are they to take sides?

    4) When passed this information, why did the club see fit to ban her from matches? Because they agreed or becasue they are compelled to?

This has nothing to do with cutting up flags. If so, who are the judges of wrong and right? If the’ve found tweets of pictures of other fans draped in a Palestinian flag cutting up an Israeli flag, what then?

The whole point is that people should be able to speak their mind openly and be held accountable to the law if stepping outside of it.

The football authorities should not see fit to pry into peoples personal afairs

I’ll be honest, I don’t really know anything about this person who was banned because of tweets. Not read up on it and don’t really plan to.

But, seeing peoples comments about it.

Is maybe the main point she’s been banned, because it could make fans feel unsafe or unwelcome at matches due to what her views appear to be?

Stadiums should be for everyone to enjoy watching their team play, everyone should feel safe. If someone makes others feel unsafe inside that stadium, i’d say there’s sound reasoning to no longer let them in that stadium.
