Newcastle Serious About Signing Belgian International Midfielder This Summer

Football Insider are reporting that Newcastle want to sign Everton defensive midfielder Amadou Onana in the summer and that they are creating an extensive scouting report on the 9 times-capped Belgium International.

Onana signed on at Everton from Lille on a five-year contract in August 2022 for a reported £33M that includes add-ons.

We were interested in Onana last month in the January window, but FFP restrictions seem to have ruled out any big incoming players at that time.

Onana stands 6ft 4ins tall and has played 59 times for Everton with 3 goals and has a contract that lasts through the end of June 2027.

With their 10-point deduction earlier this season, the Toffeees currnetly sit 3rd bottom of the league and it’s possible they could be relegated – especially with Luton Town starting to pull away from the bottom 3.

However, Everton are only 3 points behind 15th placed Brentford so any 3 of maybe 8 clubs could be relegated in May.

If Newcastle can sign Onana and manage to agree a deal to keep Joelinton at the club, then maybe Newcastle could unload one of their other central midfielders.

We do think Newcastle will see this summer as an opportunity to improve the squad across all positions and maybe sell some players as we do this.

From what we can tell, Onana would be an excellent signing for us, although the transfer fee will need to be (fairly) reasonable.

What do you think – comments welcome.

    Onana is a class act.
On PSR, any ruling that the septic 6 are advocating should be rejected by the other 14. They have no interest in creating a competitive environment that will, inevitably, threaten their positions.

I’ve seen it mentioned a few times on here and on you tube that maybe Alexander Isak is injury prone and can’t take the intensity. I personally think it’s a bit early to be coming to that conclusion.
He was only here for 3 games (with 2 weeks between his 2nd and 3rd games) before he was injured on international duty.
He was then out for 3 months but when he came back he had a run of 34 PL & other games (missing the 3rd game) before he was out with a groin problem in October. This led to him missing 3 games.
His latest setback is, as Adam has previously posted, quite possibly down to the fact that he has had to play more than he would normally be expected to because of the lack of alternatives due to injuries.
So I think it’s a bit premature to jump to the conclusion that he cannot hack it.

You always introduce “perves” into your insults. Clearly sexual perversion is high on your list of interests/hobbies – that is why you go on about it.
You are like that perve in “Silence of the Lambs” – “Buffalo Bill” the perve with the night vision googles.

I suppose it depends how the rest of the season goes but if its a groin injury he might be better off long term getting surgery so he’s all good for next season ?

This coming back playing a few games looking rusty getting form and then boom back away for 4 or 5 games isn’t really useful to anyone as he can’t even get a proper rhythm going

On this PSR, I think any club that has any ambition to get into Europe would probably vote for the new rules as that is how UEFA runs their competitions. If they don’t comply, because the EPL had different rules, then they wouldn’t be able to compete in Europe, I guess.

That thought went through my mind about the op and whether it would be better to bite the bullet. But I haven’t seen anywhere that says he needs an op, so maybe, if Wilson and Gordon are fit, when he’s back, he can be better managed and eased back into it.

I didn’t realise Sweden were out. Yeah, that’s a bonus. There also won’t be a conflict with Sweden (or Isak) if he has an op at the end of the season

Playing in Eddies system the lone CF has to do lot of running. If Isak played with a strike partner as a no10 maybe he wont get injured much. Sometimes our CF are isolated which does not help

Ratcliffe and Ineos want public money from the Levelling Up Government Funding to rebuild Old Trafford into a 90,000 seater Wembley of the North.

Why not tax payers funded West Ham.

The stench of this is off the scale.

Jail not sure why you are getting so miffed. You slag off Tuff regularly because he was wrong about signing Gordon. I poked him at the time too. But despite me and Tuff having regular digs at each other, I dont bring up the Gordon thing. If he was wrong, he was wrong. Big deal.

“Enzo Fernandez is now open to a Chelsea departure. His agents have begun talks with various clubs to explore potential opportunities”
Knew this would happen, they’ve got no chance of getting anywhere near their money back and he’ll be too greedy to take a payout elsewhere, it’s going to happen to a lot of them forcing them to sell any homegrown players and stuck with all the rubbish that lunatic keeps signing, I don’t even think they can afford to sack Poch.

Oh all right then, Eddie’s Bingo v Forest is now open. The game kicks off at 5:30 pm thanks to Sky who are broadcasting/streaming the game. Cut off will be 3:30 pm. I suspect most will wait for clues from Eddie in his presser on Friday.

Firstly manchester is not the North. It’s the north-west.
Secondly this has nothing to do with ‘levelling up’ so that’s just a political smoke screen.
Thirdly ‘tax breaks’ – for a billionaire and a filthy rich football club ? You’re having a laugh.

The Daily Mail expands further on the line about public funds being used for the redevelopment of Old Trafford with its back page story. The paper notes that “any approach to central government could be amid Westminster’s levelling up pledges”. The Mail adds that “government sources” have told them that “a simple injection of taxpayer cash to a Premier League giant is highly unlikely”.

Instead, Manchester United are likely to see assistance “in the form of tax breaks and relaxed planning regulations with the potential new venue part of a vast redevelopment zone stretching down to the Manchester Ship Canal and linking Old Trafford with MediaCity”.
