Newcastle Serious About Signing Belgian International Midfielder This Summer

Football Insider are reporting that Newcastle want to sign Everton defensive midfielder Amadou Onana in the summer and that they are creating an extensive scouting report on the 9 times-capped Belgium International.

Onana signed on at Everton from Lille on a five-year contract in August 2022 for a reported £33M that includes add-ons.

We were interested in Onana last month in the January window, but FFP restrictions seem to have ruled out any big incoming players at that time.

Onana stands 6ft 4ins tall and has played 59 times for Everton with 3 goals and has a contract that lasts through the end of June 2027.

With their 10-point deduction earlier this season, the Toffeees currnetly sit 3rd bottom of the league and it’s possible they could be relegated – especially with Luton Town starting to pull away from the bottom 3.

However, Everton are only 3 points behind 15th placed Brentford so any 3 of maybe 8 clubs could be relegated in May.

If Newcastle can sign Onana and manage to agree a deal to keep Joelinton at the club, then maybe Newcastle could unload one of their other central midfielders.

We do think Newcastle will see this summer as an opportunity to improve the squad across all positions and maybe sell some players as we do this.

From what we can tell, Onana would be an excellent signing for us, although the transfer fee will need to be (fairly) reasonable.

What do you think – comments welcome.

Get past Blackburn and a nice home tie against a lower league team would be nice.

The Grauniad, I think, ran a piece that suggested that Chelsea probably couldn’t afford to move Poch out for fear of running foul of FFP. Whether that means they couldn’t do his payoff or couldn’t do the bit about financing players for his successor.

    lesh,
I’m guessing it would cost around £25/30M to sack him now, I doubt very much they have that spare atm.

Don’t write off any of our, taxpayer money going to ManU. George Osborne, he who’s ran the country into the ground, has some big clout viz that Northern Powerhouse and among this current government. Ratcliffe likewise will have a lot of influence over them too.

So, a ‘northern’ new build could be very much on the cards. It stinks.

Forest, Villa and Chelsea all playing tonight . A couple of hard fought cup ties with 10 mins of injury time then extra time wouldn’t go amiss.

Ratcliffe getting public money off the Tories would it be that shocking or surprising compared to the money wasted over the last 10 years? At least the country would get a new stadium

Will be zero backlash for Man Utd in the press but imagine if our club tries a similar move?

    @Jail

Would love us to get Chelsea at home in the next game

As it would mean somehow they knocked a tougher Villa team out and I think at home we would just overwhelm with the atmosphere

But I can’t see how they beat Villa if Emery goes full strength?

On the back of the Ineos appeal for public funds to rebuild Old Trafford we have this insult to read about. “Hard-to-reach” areas ? – in the wider Home Counties, close to London and their home workers. Joke.

Struggle to get a signal inside SJP.

About 97,000 homes in seven counties will benefit from “lightning fast” broadband as part of a £5bn project, the government has said.

Contracts worth £181m will bring faster speeds to Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire.

Ministers said Project Gigabit would give households access to speeds of 1,000Mbps (megabits per second).

    Work could start this summer.
Internet speeds across the UK average about 73Mbps.

Commercial companies were expected to deliver the necessary upgrades to much of the UK, but the target cannot be hit without government intervention in “hard-to-reach” areas.

All this leveling up stuff is just plain rubbish, I can easily see the Manchester redevelopment plans giving the go-ahead, especially a nice tramway from old trafford to the “Media Centre”. All aboard the Luvvie Express to the corporate boxes! Last one there gets a prawn sandwich with the crusts left on!

You can bet your bottom dollar Radcliffe will get what he wants regarding the stadium, why not, West ham, moved into a brand new stadium and never paid a penny other than forking out peanuts for the yearly rent.
But they are a London club aren`t they , special treatment.
Like i mentioned yesterday Manure are part of the chosen few blue eyed boy brigade who the PL love to hoop lick, and i can see a new look New Trafford on the horizon regardless of the fact the country is going to the fookin wall.
You have to get your priorities right don`t you boys and girls.

Before i go , i can see why Blackburn want to keep the ticketing prices for the cup game as low as possible
The owners will want as many in the ground as possible so it makes sense to keep the pricing down, we are talking about Blackburn here, they are not known to fill their ground very often, in fact , it`s usually half empty.

Before anyone starts, I know I know he is only 17.

But, I think the only thing that lets him down from being a top top player is his speed, it’s been quite a few times now watching him trying to get back into position from pressing high and the other team counters, he seems like he is treading water.

I don’t think he will get much faster

Szoboszlai and Mac Allister, personally I don’t get all the praise, hype around either of them. Liverpool fans love Szoboszlai, I’ve seen glimpses of his quality but he’s looked pretty average at times too.

Might be some biased involved but for me Mac Allister doesn’t even get in ahead of our current midfield trio.

Pains me though to see Bobby Clark in that shirt, getting minutes, may have saved us a small fortune.

British taxpayers will be handed a £35m bill for a planned revamp of West Ham United football club’s stadium in east London.
The government will fork out £14.5m of public money for fresh seating at the state-owned London Stadium as West Ham redevelops the west stand to bring fans closer to the pitch.
And this is after they were gifted the stadium after the Olympics.

Miley maybe does lack a bit of pace, that acceleration to make up ground. However I think that is football intelligence, his positional sense will make up for it.

Speaking of acceleration Van De Ven is very impressive

You’re surprised that we, Joe Public, should subsidise an upgrade to West Ham’s (our) stadium?

It seems that the Right Honourable The Baroness Brady CBE, West Ham’s Vice Chair, is a member of the Tory Party who sits in the House of Lord.

    Coincidence or what?

    On speed:

“Chiedozie Ogbene is currently the No 1 speedster in the Premier League, the Luton Town forward falling just shy of reaching 37km/h against Fulham. Ogbene is leading fellow winger Pedro Neto and midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, with speeds of 36.86km/h and 36.76km/h respectively.18 Nov 2023”. That spurs CB also has registered 37 km/h.

How come Botman is given as 39+ km/h? If true, all those people are slow pokes comparatively.

Elanga, the forest winger, a speed merchant is at 34.88 km/h.

Something ain’t right in the above stats… Guess which?

Don’t be surprised when it comes out that Ratcliffe, Ineos and the Glaxiers held ‘informal talks’ with Government before they all joined up as a cozy group. Basically any such deal would underwrite manu debts and safeguard the Glaziers and Ratcliffe’s investments.

Perhaps the Post Office owners who were wrongly arrested and defamed should be compensated rather than another blot on the landscape.

Jail Klopp had a tonne of injuries last season and nearly caught us. Of course he has better players, but he also has a tactical acumen and experience which is at a higher level than Eddie. I still don’t see how in some games he could not have eeked points out by managing differently. Forest at home being a good example, and Luton the other say. You can’t put everything down to injuries, bad as they have been.

    Munster,

From memory Klopp had a tonne of injuries and they were miles off us for a long period. They only started to catch up once the players came back from injury.

I don’t think tactics played as big a part as you are alluding to, however would concede that Klopp’s experience (and I’m willing to bet similar mistakes early days at Dortmund etc) at a higher level has helped him tweak things to try and make it fit when the best players aren’t available – though they were in pretty poor form last year until the injury problems eased.
