Toon In Training For Nottingham Forest – Health Update

Here’s another nufcTV video showing the Newcastle players in training for the game at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, which has an early 12:30 pm kick-off time.

All our games for the rest of the season are important, as we try to climb the Premier League table and also advance in the FA Cup.

Our 5th round FA Cup tie at Blackburn is on Tuesday, February 27th with a 7:45pm KO time.

Almost 80% of our readers think we can win the game this coming Saturday – that would be great.

Health Update:

8th February, 2024

An update on my health situation – we have terminated the PluVicto treatment halfway through, because of the severity of the side effects – diarrhea, vomiting, and acid reflux.

And there was no evidence the treatment was having any positive effect in stopping the prostate cancer from spreading in the bones: there are no new treatments left for me to go on.

I will go into home hospice care now and will have a hospice nurse visit me at home regularly to ensure I am as comfortable as possible and will help treat the side effects of the many treatments I have had.

It’s down the final stretch now, and I have run out of treatments, and nature will take its course.

I hope Newcastle can get many (many) wins this season from now on, and I am at peace with all of this.

🙂

I will continue to write articles as long as I can.

Thanks for all your help through the years – it’s very much appreciated.

Ed Harrison

    Dr Ed

I’ve been saving up all those £10 notes for a rainy day.

This seems like the right time to put them to good use.

    I’ve addressed the package accordingly…

Coming Home – well, let’s see if we can pick a home game for a few of us to get together.

As it stands, I can do:
    West Ham 30th March
    Spurs 13th April
Sheff Utd 27th April (perfect for me as I’ll already be in the Midlands for a golf trip the days before)
    Brighton 11th May

Munster – congratulations to you both for behaving yourselves for a few days. Do you want a medal for acting like grown ups for a few days?? Seriously…

I’m all for moving on from things though so if you both can just speak to each other civilly, stop baiting each other, and mostly stick to Toon related topics, then everyone on the blog is a winner.

I remember you telling me on private chat on discord a few months ago that you were heading to the philippines later this year, but decided to keep it under my hat, as it was up to you when you wanted it to be made public young fella. We have something in common as we have both been to the philippines plus both been Driving Instructors in the past. Always enjoyed the craic with you mate, you certainly left your mark on the blog, and stirred the pot at times 😀 😀 Absolutely you will leave a huge void when you depart our shores my friend.

You`re 100% correct about the filipino people, i can safely say i have never met more warm and friendly and humble people in my whole life, they really are the salt of the earth mate. I still remember my 3 flights to that lovely country, Belfast City airport to heathrow, then heathrow to Hong Kong, and finally Hong Kong to Manila, i was totally knackered when i arrived, but to my astonishment there was a party arranged for my arrival with loads of the devil`s buttermilk, obviously it would have been quite rude not to oblige mate 😀 😀

PS I think i left you my mobile number on private chat on discord if you want to have a chat sometime mate.

    Hi Ed!

I would just like to say over the year’s ive said this place can be a cesspool a number of times, and ive said it every time in anger and towards the people who we tend to have arguments with.

In reality you have created the best Newcastle blog there has ever been.

You gave us all a home to come to on matchday sometimes we talk football, sometimes we talk shite and sometimes we talk too much. But i can honestly say there is no place id rather be on matchday and im going to desperately miss it when its gone.

You very graciously thanked all of us for being here over the last 17 years but the only ones who need to be thankful are all of us.

Thank you for everything Ed and thank you for being fair when a lot of us didnt deserve it( myself most definitely included).

I hope you’re with us for a good while longer even if the posts start to slow down, and i hope you get some sort of recognition from the club over the next few months, you deserve it.

Forest’s Sels out to prove a point

The Matz Sels derby will take place on Saturday evening, a fixture few anticipated they would ever witness. The Belgian spent two seasons at Newcastle, the second out on loan at Anderlecht, but managed a mere nine appearances in their promotion season from the Championship in 2016-17 as he failed to convince Rafa Benítez he was better than the former Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow. Since leaving St James’ Park, Sels has been a steady performer at Strasbourg but decided a crack at the Premier League was too good to turn down. Amid the chaos of the Forest goalkeeping department, Sels was immediately installed as No 1 against Bournemouth and looked steady enough compared to the underwhelming Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos. It might just help that his home debut will come against a team who did not think he was capable of being first choice. A little extra incentive goes a long way in football.

I hope a point is all they get.
Otherwise in the morning after, I will be reaching for the alka-SELS-tzer.

I hope Matz Sels doesn’t do a Chris Wood on us. What a bizarre keeper he was, seemed to get worse with every clean sheet, you’d have thought he’d have gained confidence from them, not him though, the more clean sheets we kept the more he dropped, fumbled or miskicked, Belgian keeper of the year as well. I think, like Chris Wood the shirt was just too big for him playing in front of 52K fans, fine when that size crows is the opposition but obviously can’t handle the pressure of performing in front of an expectant home crowd. As I say, I hope he doesn’t put in a display tomorrow like CW did on Boxing day.

CH…Best of luck with your new life in the Philippines. Hope it all works out well.
It’s not too bad living in sunnier climes, can have it’s drawbacks too though. Missing footy for example, when there’s family emergencies and for me personally got harder once the grandkids came along. Not hard enough to move back though 😆

What’s everyones opinion on this “blue card” trial?
I’m not so sure myself, the team going down to 10 for 10 minutes is surely just going to try and kill the game for 10 minutes. Every player behind the ball, players going down feigning injury/cramp(watch how many goalies hit the deck), time wasting at every opportunity. I guess the flipside is that the other team will chuck everything into attacking them but hard to get any rhythm going if the oppo is doing the above.
Will it be a straight 10 minutes(likely) or do any stoppages during that time get added on to it?
Also if a team has a player sent off with a straight red with 10 minute left for violent conduct/dangerous play but the other team has a player sin binned for 10, then it completely loses any advantage for a much less serious offence.
As I said, not so sure myself.
