Injury Updates On Callum Wilson And Jacob Murphy

We came out of the 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest yesterday with two injury concerns, although hopefully, the injuries are only slight.

The injuries were to Jacob Murphy and Callum Wilson, and Eddie Howe has said that Jacob Murphy could not be used at all yesterday because he had a tightness in his calf.

This is what Howe said about Murphy’s injury after the game:

“Jacob Murphy was unusable for us today.”“He didn’t feel great in the warm-up.”

“He had a tight calf.”

“So we are still getting challenges left, right and center, but we are, at this moment in time…managing to come through those.”

Hopefully, the medics will work on Murphy this week so he will be fully fit for our next game – a home fixture against Eddie Howe’s former club Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

But right at the end of the game, the returning Callum Wilson looked to be in some distress with his arm and 3 Newcastle assistants tended to him at the final whistle.

This is what Howe said about Wilson, who has only just returned from a previous injury:

“I don’t think it (Wilson) is his shoulder, his shoulder is fine, which is great news.”

“I think it is potentially a problem with one of his muscles in his arm, so we will wait and see.”

We have had far too many injuries this season and we have called for an investigation into the Newcastle processes with injuries to see what has gone wrong.

I’m sure those requests have also come from our owners since at one time we had about 15 first-team players not available.

Those injuries have helped to wreck our season, but we are still in the Premier League and just one win from being in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

A very good FA Cup run and qualifying for Europe next season would be a very decent season for us in the circumstances and think we will have Nick Pope, Joelinton, and Sandro Tonali available for next season – like 3 new signings.

Eddie Howe has admitted there have been mistakes made, so hopefully our processes to prevent and then recover from injuries have been (greatly) enhanced.

We also cannot have players being injured because they can’t play two games a week.

That’s because we  are going to be playing two games a week in most weeks as the norm, and Newcastle will be in European competition every season.

Hopefully, that’s one of the learning experiences from this first season back in European competition.

What do you think?

If it had of been the other way round there would have been blue murder on here and cries of conspiracy.

Jail; Shay Given thought so too. I just didn’t.
If you look at Saka’s pen today. He was in control of the ball and went round the keeper, drawing the foul.
I don’t see how yesterday’s incident could be considered a pen.

    ATiI… Great memories indeed 😀

WLt… Couldn’t have signed off on a better game really, Sunderland 5-1 maybe would have ran it close. We also had a fair few “fans” leaving early that day v Arsenal. I did have words with some, my memories not great but think they must have worked at Barclays or similar cos I can remember shouting “effin bankers” or something like that at them 😆

Jim; He’s rubbish. I’ve been saying it for years. I don’t know what anyone sees in him. The contrast between him and Rice is ridiculous. He came on, admittedly the game was over, and just strolled about.
    He is shocking.

Me thought it was a pen Dubs second movement with his arm
Would of been disappointed if it was us
Mind you the ref and VAR might not of given it because they thought he or Botman who I thought touched the ball over an the ball/ball going out over the goal line

“Fabian Schar has the same number Premier League goals this season as…

    James Maddison
    Bruno Fernandes
    Dominik Szoboszlai
    Kaoru Mitoma
    Cody Gakpo
    Brennan Johnson”

Some boy is our Schar .

“Botman got an assist last night.

Made over 100 passes at 92% accuracy.

Made 8 out of 13 long ball attempts.

    Won all his aerial duels.”

The Rolls Royce ain’t bad either .

Still feel botmans not at full capacity either in terms of fitness although there’s times where he is just immense

Just don’t think he’s totally comfortable in these crazy open games either it’s a bit chaotic if you are a defender I imagine

The Forest player deliberately kicked Dubs in the fleshy soft skin where his arm leaves the shoulder.

    Very underarm tactic that.
    No penalty.
    Should have been carded.
