Injury Updates On Callum Wilson And Jacob Murphy

We came out of the 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest yesterday with two injury concerns, although hopefully, the injuries are only slight.

The injuries were to Jacob Murphy and Callum Wilson, and Eddie Howe has said that Jacob Murphy could not be used at all yesterday because he had a tightness in his calf.

This is what Howe said about Murphy’s injury after the game:

“Jacob Murphy was unusable for us today.”“He didn’t feel great in the warm-up.”

“He had a tight calf.”

“So we are still getting challenges left, right and center, but we are, at this moment in time…managing to come through those.”

Hopefully, the medics will work on Murphy this week so he will be fully fit for our next game – a home fixture against Eddie Howe’s former club Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

But right at the end of the game, the returning Callum Wilson looked to be in some distress with his arm and 3 Newcastle assistants tended to him at the final whistle.

This is what Howe said about Wilson, who has only just returned from a previous injury:

“I don’t think it (Wilson) is his shoulder, his shoulder is fine, which is great news.”

“I think it is potentially a problem with one of his muscles in his arm, so we will wait and see.”

We have had far too many injuries this season and we have called for an investigation into the Newcastle processes with injuries to see what has gone wrong.

I’m sure those requests have also come from our owners since at one time we had about 15 first-team players not available.

Those injuries have helped to wreck our season, but we are still in the Premier League and just one win from being in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

A very good FA Cup run and qualifying for Europe next season would be a very decent season for us in the circumstances and think we will have Nick Pope, Joelinton, and Sandro Tonali available for next season – like 3 new signings.

Eddie Howe has admitted there have been mistakes made, so hopefully our processes to prevent and then recover from injuries have been (greatly) enhanced.

We also cannot have players being injured because they can’t play two games a week.

That’s because we  are going to be playing two games a week in most weeks as the norm, and Newcastle will be in European competition every season.

Hopefully, that’s one of the learning experiences from this first season back in European competition.

What do you think?

Never a penalty, he was forced wide, then lost control of the ball, (which is important). Then tripped himself over by catching Dubs in the upper arm.
I can assure anybody that is totally an un biased view.
    The ref was correct.
There is now a massive problem with penalties, with handball and players diving.

That emery is too loyal to players and hasn’t got a plan B. The owners will be after an elite manager in the summer. ;D

Villa played ok, just couldn’t put the ball in the net. Doesn’t help them though, confidence has surely got to be slowly draining away…hopefully! 😀

I think I’m with Jail on thinking the loss of POPE has destabilised our defence, as good as Dubravka has been, I think Pope marshals his defenders, and comes out to clears his lines better. It can’t be a coincidence we had the best defence last season.
Mind it was never a penalty for me, he had lost control of the ball, before he trap his foot deliberately under Dubravka armpit.

Last season folk were saying we should have won the games we drew. In my opinion if we’d drew half the games we’ve lost this season we’d have been 5 points better off. It would have been very helpful this season.

On the “Penalty” or not I was undecided initially but after watching the replays came to the conclusion it wasn’t a pen. However my friend who lives in BC Canada (he’s an ex Ref) told me he thought the Ref had a poor game and I can’t say I disagree with him! I also thought the ref let an awful lot go but for both teams! 🙂

Carltoon…I think Pope is part of it but the lack of protection at times from the midfield is more to blame imo. Obviously other factors too like Tripps’ bad patch, Botman’s injury etc.

Raj, you should take care down in the bowels of a ship! There have been engineers known to pump the bilges; you never know where you might end up!

Thanks for the smile amongst a load of dross!

It would be really good if folk could afford Dr. Ed some respect and courtesy in these difficult days.

I’m not holding my breath though! 🙁

I’m not a fan of any our goalies. Pope is the best but that’s not saying much.
They have both cost us goals this season.
The worst thing about Dubravka is he is a jack in the box. Sometimes he comes, sometimes he doesn’t and worst of all he often comes, stops and retreats.

I myself don’t mind a bit of banta and back and forth, but it goes on an on an on then gets monotonous.

We were absolutely fantastic against Man U in November, we didn’t lose Joelinton till January, we literally fell apart after Pope’s injury and I don’t think that’s simply a coincidence.

It wasnt a penalty, just as penalty we got against Wolves wasnt. No bias. Just watching the footy.

So it would be nice if certain posters (Discord Raj) didnt hammer folk with a different opinion to him. Done it for 24 hours now the nerd.

    Shape Up.

And Valencia keeper will be here in the summer. Never said he was coming in winter window, but we after him.

    Munster = Raj

Attention seekers. Bless em both. More they get ignored, worse they get. Reign it in lads. Blogs last days.

Dont agree with me, must be due to being biased to the team you follow.

Very strange angle that mind. Wasnt a penalty, cheating cnut kicked the keeper as he ran past him.

Those who think otherwise have never played the game. Like most referees. Nerds

And as if Tino couldnt play Burns role.

Eddie is basing selection on senior leadership group, not talent.

He needs to have a think. 17 goals in 6 games. Hardly working.

Paddling a bit is Eddie. And agree with 9 from earlier, Miley needs a break. Good for 30 minutes. Invisible 2nd halfs. Probably due to being asked to cover Burn and support Gordon. Asking a lot of the kid is Eddie.

Don’t know what more you expect.

He’s not just the best between those two.

He’s the best we’ve ever had. Next step would probably be the Liverpool or City keepers. No one else.

It’s like saying we could do better than Gordon. Mbappe, say.

He took a poor touch and then collided with the keeper. I accepted the decision immediately, but then again I’m biased.

I also for sure think weve missed Pope, but I think we’ve missed Joel more, and probably Willock, Tonali, Barnes and at times Isak and Wilson more too. Dubravka is a very able deputy, but yeah, Nick Pope is next level, and keeper is a critical position.
