Toon In Training For Huge Manchester City Test

Here’s the nufcTV video of the first team squad in training this morning, getting ready for the test in the FA Cup quarter finals at Manchester City.

That’s a very tough test for the lads, but it’s not impossible that if we play at or near our best we can still get through this round.

The photo on the article is not from today – as it shows Kieran Trippier training.

    As it’s Cheltenham…

Me mate a Bookmaker rang and told me to back these today:

He’s given me 3 tips for the gold cup…
    Sunshine 4/1
    Moonlight 10/1
    Good Times 6/1

So, If they lose, don’t blame it on the Sunshine, don’t blame it on the Moonlight, don’t blame it on the Good Times, blame it on the Bookie 😉

Tino might not be that quick, (actually I think he is) but he appears to read the game well so doesn’t need to be!

Lesh, mission accomplished with the US Secretary General.

There was a fat bastard in the corner salivating saying something about me being an Irish knacker but obviously the Americans were talking to the Irish man, as they do.

City is a free hit and I expect us to win the tie.
They are focused on league and CL and will also underestimate us.
We score there every thousand years so I am going for nil nil and a win at our place. We can beat them at sjp and a replay is the last thing they want.

It’s a big advantage if you have pace. I’ve heard all about reading the game but all players make phook ups and fast players can recover the error. Slow ones are phooked

Nice if somebody could knock out gunners then I would be really confident

I’m glad Eddie has finally opened up on the situation re Longstaff and the impact of injuries in general as I don’t think press ,pundits and especially some fans have been as alive to it( or dismissed it) as i would have hoped

If there isn’t a negative bias towards us then i am sure there isn’t a positive one when we have had bad results

Our injury list given our quality and squad depth is far worse than thos ewho get more sympathetic mentions at times like Chelsea, Man U etc with poor and expensive misfits

It’s the worst that I can recall in nearly 60 years of supporting

WE have had so many key injuries (and an unforeseen ban) to contend with from early season to now

Missing for large parts of the season with many overlaps have ( and still are in some cases) been in no particular order

    Tonalli
    Barnes
    Wilson
    Isak
    Willock
    Anderson
    Joelinton
    Pope
    Murphy
    Burn
    Krafth

These aren’t due directly to the “Intensity is our Identity” mantra as some fans suggest as many are freak rather tahn soft tissue /muscle ones – again off top of my head

    Barnes
    Pope
    Murphy
    Burn

As i said last night ( and in all seriousness) it will be like having the proverbial new signings in Barnes and Tonali cases if they manage a preseason

I have been disappointed , annoyed and angry after certain games this season but have tried to keep perspective and acknowledge that this unprecedented and prolonged injury crisis has to have had an impact that even the Klopps and Guardiolas would have struggled with ( Arteteta would have had a melt down and screaming fit)

It’s mentioned but not always given its proper due by Press, pundits and even some fans

Although lesser problems for likes of Chelsea, Man U are given more credence by some

The season has been a disappointment and even if we don’t retrieve something over next few weeks there have been some genuine high spots

    PSG in CL

2 great wins and performances against Villa

Wins and performances at home V Arsenal and Man U

Knocking Man U and City out of Carabaou cups with fringe squads

Emergence of Lewis Miley as genuine talent

    Gordon and Tino

OK lots of downs as well but i trust Eddie and co have taken those lessons on board and with a decent transfer window and fewer injuries get us back on course next season – hopefully competing in Europe albeit at a lower level than CL

Although there are questions raised over Eddie in media ( and on social media) and accepting that there is little if no sentimentatlity in football i hope Eddie is allowed a chance to lead us forward next season

He was definately the right man to start the rebuild ( even more so than alleged first choice Emery who has had a great start at Villa)

Although we can’t be sure whether or not he has reached the limit of his managerial abilities I’d like to think he hasn’t yet finished his own development and can grow with us and take us on

Big stakes though and Owners in general aren’t always patient so we’ll have to await a close season post mortem I suspect

Maybe EH doesn’t read this blog or social media but I’ve always thought the press do and use it. It’s happened a few times in his press conferences, where he’s been asked questions about fans’ reactions. Including today when one of them quoted a large fairly influential twitter account on twitter saying ‘they were spineless cowards, no heart, no desire, no passion, no energy”.

Why the need to go out of your way to appear so ignorant and socially inept? Your use of English varies between good and crass.

Such behaviour is indicative of insecurity with the need to attract attention. You really have no need to do it.

Regarding goalkeepers… This Giorgi Mamardashvili throws himself at every save, even when it would be easier not to.

I hope they go for Diogo Costa instead. A sweeper keeper with perfect distribution.

Evening all, Hopefully must of us all are optimistic regarding the match tomorrow, I am, 2-1 win…….just looking at the bigger picture regarding our team, yes we need approx 3-4 new quality established players next season, but, IMO we already have some seriously good talent at our club, Lewis Miley, brother Jamie, Tino L, Lewis Hall, Y.Minteh, G.Kuol (who I think will come good) plus others, honestly I,ve seem some of these at Whitley Park, 2 miles from where I live, and they are very promising. Next season MASSIVE imo, we,ve had our bad luck this season roll on next. I,ve had a few good conversations with Luke E. recently, and it makes me laugh that the shit posters call him repeatedly, they don’t know the guy….. so there is no way anything he tells me I would repeat on here, so sad,but it is the way it is unfortunately. I also know the Chairman of the Freeman of the City, David Wilson, my old boss for 5 years, but we will leave it like that.
Anyway enjoy your weekend boys and girls, hope your well, Carltoon and enjoy the match on Saturday , have a glass of wine to help with your anxiety or blood pressure, lol, Cheers. GWH

Whilst under Pep Man City have a very impressive FA cup record (at least semis) they have been knocked out by lower sides prior to that – Wigan a couple of times and Boro

Heart says yeah FA cup is a great leveller, they’ve had games against Man U Liverpool with Arsenal to come after us, CL games back on. League is vey tight and CL is also priority so who knows maybe they’ll treat this competition as the lesser, underestimate us as by far the easier of the games and we become giant killers 😉

Head says we’ve no win there in years, are on mixed form and can’t even hope for a draw and replay so probably would need to score more than one or if level more penalties than them – very big ask but I didn’t give us much chance going to Villa few weeks ago and ………

I suppose it depends on which Newcastle turn up and whether Man City underestimate us or at least Pep doesn’t but players do

If we play a low block and hope to Nick something on the counter we’ll almost certainly get beat. They are just too good.

Our best bet I suppose, and given its a cup match, is to press high and full throttle and overwhelm them and knock them off their stride.

Could be carnage of course, especially if we don’t have the legs or the confidence, and concede early. But if the goal is a win, then perhaps it’s our best hope.

If I’m not mistaken that game was drawn out of hat as us at home but because of the pitch invasion against Forest (4-3 game) in 73/74 season FA made us play away?

I think youre right about it being last time though as we’ve beaten them a few time at SJP over the intervening years in Cup but can’t recall any away
