Our Best Player At Manchester City May Not Be With Us Next Season

In our poll for the quarter-final tie at Manchester City over the weekend, which we lost 2-0,  Bruno Guimaraes yop the poll as our best player with over 30% of the vote.

Rumors are brewing that the top executives at Newcastle think we need to sell one or more players this summer to be able to spend money to strengthen other positions in the side.

And we know Bruno has a release clause in his contract for £100M, so we could sell him to a top club and have that £100M (and more depending on PSR) to spend on new players this summer.

We really hope we are not still in the business of selling our best players, and we would prefer to keep Bruno and sell some other players – maybe like Sean Longstaff and others – but not the current star of our side – that seems a little daft to us.

What do you think?

Who Was Newcastle's best player At Manchester City?

Oh no not the scare post! Bruno signed a Long term deal and is very settles. Huge part of the spine and a cult hero. It would be like selling Cole. We have wilson etc to sell..

Sell Miggy and Lonstaff for £40M, that’ll work.

I’m saying Miggy and Longstaff, forgot about Wilson, get rid of those three for £60M and that’s a good window before we even buy anyone.

If Bruno gets sold there can’t be any wailing or gnashing of teeth about ambition etc, if he goes it’ll be because he’s had a release clause met. Still people going on about Mikel Merino now. We’ve agreed a release clause with the lad, if he wants to go there’s nowt we can do except offer him the type of money the owners can afford but the club can’t.

I think / hope that we’re in a position where we don’t need to sell any top players and I’m sure the club will be trying to prioritise the sales of others players first (as listed above for example). However, if a silly offer comes in, the club will do an analysis. I don’t think it’ll be a case of we need to sell, but what can we do if we choose to sell them.

I’m not advocating selling a Bruno or Isak, but I’d be a lot less worried than in the past. As we’ve seen the past 2 years, we’ve made up a lot of ground, but to do it consistently we’re going to need to be smart. Short term pain, may lead to longer term gains. Having said all of that, I want Bruno and Isak here for the long term. Superb players with potential still to come.

Interesting you say Gary Lineker never scored any from outside the box on the previous, i don`t recall Jimmy Greaves scoring many outside the box either Raj, speaking about Greaves, i have never seen many more natural goal scorers than Jimmy Greaves in my lifetime.

    Ibizatoon,
I think it’s too early in Isak’s toon/PL career to class him as injury prone, he didn’t have a great record prior to us but he didn’t have a poor one either so he might have just been unlucky here so far. Given though, that a lot of people are saying that his injuries have been partly due to Wilson’s continued and frustrating absence I think it tells us he’s not a 90 minute man and will have to be managed, so therefore I don’t think he can have any complaints if he does find himself playing on the left more often than not. I do think it’s imperative we find a 90 minute striker like Toney, Watkins or Solanke. Where as before I thought it had to be a striker as equally good on the right, now I think that would just be a bonus and an injury free record should take precedence.

Raj…Had to double check if I had mentioned Isaks injury record there 🙂

For me, the idea of selling him would have little to do with his injury record (as I haven’t really taken a look at it tbh). I get what you’re saying though and it’s been a familiar theme this season. The knock on effect of one players injury on the other players who have to play more games and not get rotated. It plays a part.

If Wilson goes (which I think he should at this point) then we absolutely need another ST anyway and imo, it should be a top level one. Callums injury record isn’t good, but his goal scoring record is and that would need to be replaced and not just left to Isak. As you’ve said, it doesn’t have to impact Isaks minutes, as he can play across the front 3 really…whether he’s happy to longer term is another question.

    Ibizatoon,
No you didn’t it was just on my mind so started off my post with it, should have put it another post but his not stellar injury record here does kind of have a relevance on him having no complaints if he’s not the central striker going forward.

    Raj…Intellectually, I agree 🙂

Ultimately if a player can’t get on board for the greater good of the team, he probably shouldn’t be at the club anyway. Not suggesting that is the case with Isak at all, just thinking out loud.

    Ibizatoon,
I’ve been advocating for awhile now that this new striker we get has to be equally as good on the right to allow Isak to play centrally, I’ve changed my mind on that, I think we could afford AG to go on the right, the new striker in the middle with HB, Isak, AG and JM competing either side of him with the preferred front three of Isak, NST, AG.

I once saw Greavsie at White Hart Lane, score after a great dribble against us. Ollie Burton was mesmerised!

Regarding selling our best players I sincerely hope not! The Media love to stir it up, but our own CEO, Mr Eales raised it unfortunately.

You then have two specialist CF’s with AG able to deputise there. That should solve third striker gate. The two $1M questions are though, do we lose much from AG on the right and is Isak happy to know his main position is likely to be on the left.

Lineker was a sniffer with a load of pace. His playing style was very similar to Michael Owen’s.
I never really saw Greaves play but he seems to have had a bit of everything.

Things I want to see re NUFC to get us back on track

    – Joelinton contract extension (done tick)
    – Keep Bruno as he is critical for us.
    – Tonali investigation dropped.
    – Minteh given a run at RW
    – Lloyd Kelly for LB as he would fit in well.
    – Ederson for DM.
    – Longstaff sold for pure FFP gains.
    – Botman back to his best.
    – An actual CF rather than Isak who’s better on the left wing imo
    – A new GK but a sweeper keeper. It just has to be Giorgi Mamardashvili. He’d be perfect for what we need.

The main thing is the striker who do we go after? It has to be a put and put CF who can score for fun. I’d like it to be Sesko of RB Leipzig. He has it all and young, he would fit in very well IMO.

Even getting £30m for a player or players would be more than enough for the summer. £30m + whatever money we get from Adidas, Champions League, League finish and new commercial partnerships we’ve struck this season, would be more than enough.

When you consider Eales said in that interview that if you get a player for £50m over 5 years, it’s essentially £10m a year for those 5 years. If we go low and say we sold a player(s) for £30m, that could indicate we can then sign 2 £75m players on 5 year contracts.

Obviously not as simple as that, but we’ll have far more than £30m to play with, without selling an Isak or a Bruno. So we will be absolutely fine this summer.

It’s your opinion which is absolutely fair enough, but I don’t know how you can think Isak is better on the left. He’s only played left wing 6 times his whole career. 251 times as a striker/center forward.

Even for us, 5 times at left wing with 1 assist an 0 goals.
46 times for us as a striker/center forward with 25 goals and 1 assist.

He’s averaging just slightly better than a goal every 2 games in the league as a striker. That’s so hard to find these days.

He’s a phenomenal striker who should absolutely be played there. Only on the left wing to accomodate another striker if we need to in certain situations, or to change tactic mid-game.

He’s ok on the wing, he’s sensational up top. Keep him there and enjoy the goals he’ll continue to score.

I’ve seen a few comments in the past, both here and places like Twitter, saying we should play Isak on the left.

    I just don’t get it.

Better than a goal every 2 games in the Premier League as a striker.

Why on earth would we even think about removing him up top when he’s getting insane numbers there?

Hi mate, i can still clearly remember watching that goal against us on MOTD, where he got the ball a went on a fantastic run leaving loads of our defenders in his wake, if memory serves me right i think we were still in black and white era mate.

    Adamn,

I’ll be quick got a teams call in 15mins…

Isak imo doesn’t have the bulk for a CF, he doesn’t hold the ball up well, but he is much more effective from the left of a front 3. He has lots of trickery when cutting in from the left. He has looked lost at CF at times saying that his service has not been great this season.

Here’s the thing on Bruno, he had a release clause there for a reason. We didn’t ask for it, his team did.
But, if someone activates the clause it’s not up to Newcastle united to say no, it’s solely up to Bruno, so if clause is activated and he leaves that’s Bruno’s decision.
So it’s going to be an interesting summer for sure, will he, won’t he, will someone come in and release the clause.
Total fantasy media right now, only time will tell.

There are conditions to his release clause. I would like to think the £100m is only for clubs outside the EPL.
Basically if any of the corrupt 6 want to buy him the have to pay top whack, i.e. > £100m.
    That would be nice.

    Adamn_92,
I don’t think he’s better on the left but I just don’t see how we can be expected to play big more for an out and out CF and tell him he’s behind Isak in the pecking order. What type of quality can you expect if he’s willing to as well, you’re going down to Chris Wood/Origi levels to find that unless we get incredibly lucky an unearth a gem.
