In our poll for the quarter-final tie at Manchester City over the weekend, which we lost 2-0, Bruno Guimaraes yop the poll as our best player with over 30% of the vote.
Rumors are brewing that the top executives at Newcastle think we need to sell one or more players this summer to be able to spend money to strengthen other positions in the side.
And we know Bruno has a release clause in his contract for £100M, so we could sell him to a top club and have that £100M (and more depending on PSR) to spend on new players this summer.
We really hope we are not still in the business of selling our best players, and we would prefer to keep Bruno and sell some other players – maybe like Sean Longstaff and others – but not the current star of our side – that seems a little daft to us.
What do you think?

Comment #165Not even next season and we have a big player out. Possibly Tonali could get ban extended. And people say next season will be a belter. It will be same as this. Injuries will occur frequently. Eddie needs to learn how to get 11 players together and win games. Cant use injuries as excuse anymore they are inevitable

Comment #166There is no doubt the Botman injury has been mis-managed. I’m not having a go at Howe, the coaching team or Botman.
This is firmly in the court of the doctors. They’ve messed this up. Let’s hope that Botman hasn’t suffered any permanent damage.

Comment #167As EH has said, they continually assess things so I’m sure they’ll be taking a look at the medical team as part of that but does anybody have a list of the actual mistakes the medical team have made. It could make interesting reading one way or the other.

yes sounds like one that wasn’t universally agreed as a definite op and of course something that happens in the real world as well :-
Even out in here in normality we can get second opinions – not all injuries./medical problems can be reduced to one obvious procedure in every case
Why is Longstaff playing with and injury and matchday injections -on balance the concensus is presumably because it’s a viable option

And if we don’t, we won’t compete with the big 4 for CL football.
In the meantime I hope we don’t flog Bruno to close the gap in spending ability

I watch nufc matters a canny bit. Weeks ago the Geordie Dentist/ Mitch said if you need an operation you need an operation. No end of rest will fix it. I know dentists don’t treat knees. He had however been chatting to a specialist as one medical professional to another.

Arrh I’m sorry to hear that – another thing I’ve missed in my absence
Stay strong lass!
I can see that more than ever calm and balanced opinions are still good currency amongst the often pointless squabbles on here
Hope your lad treasures his good fortune – better than the Ashley years and I’m sure he does having been raised proppa 😉
Hope your daughter ( abroad – Thailand?) is doing OK and you get to see her despite your ill-health
In my case I’ve never had as much free time, been as comfortably off and in reasonable health for 74 yet can’t seem to find a way to move forward
KIds tell me I’m doing fine so maybe I’m expecting too much too soon
Walk nearly everyday listening to music/podcasts for 4 miles or more. I babysit my young grandson, am trying to teach myself piano ( can’t do my amateur guitar anymore because of arthritic fingers) and have discovered the delights of Bandlab / Cakewalk ( music creation apps) with my son as we try out covers and even some of his songs just for our own fun.
Need a college course to get hang of the music apps nevermind the piano!
Gets me through the days that can be slow:)
I even go shopping at times with my 2 daughters and eldest grandaugher just as she did ( girlie day out which they all loved 🙂 ) can’t say I do but the coffees and pints! on occasion help
I’m doing Ok though – great family and 7 grandkids I adore and strive to help bring up the right way , living good family values, having empathy for others ( just as “wor lass” did) and we do a lot of things together,
They all embrace these beliefs and as importantly are all NUFC fans
Never a better time
Sooner or later tragedy strikes and I’m not alone on here or in the wider world in suffering but i was brought up to count my blessings and I stll do and they outweigh the crap
Hey I better not overdo a “long lovely post”
Later then …..Oh and I also have my fingers crossed that I see another trophy ( after Fais Cup) before I join “wor lass” 🙂

Comment #190“Couple of things worth noting on Sven Botman ACL injury:
Understand the club were happy for him to have surgery back in Oct/Nov, but Botman himself decided to rest instead as he wanted to get back and help the team ASAP.
He, and the club, had taken advice from multiple specialists and there wasn’t a definitive answer as to what the best course of action was.
Also, a number of other players have re-ruptured ACLs having had surgery in between, so surgery isn’t always a 100% fix.
Despite all that, the decision has been a bad one as Newcastle now probably need two CBs this summer”
From Keith Downie .
Bad news all around really and to think somehow the plums on here were writing him off.
Ooooo........it's Nicky the ball tosser

Comment #191Struggling to see us bringing in a mid. Tonali, Bruno and Joelinton are a top notch starting 3, and Longstaff, Willock, Miley and Anderson excellent cover. It’s only injuries and suspension that has made us appear stretched there. To my way of thinking we will probably be looking to move on some or all of Almiron, Wilson, Targett, Dummett and Ritchie, and also possibly Lascelles, and as a priority bringing in a CF and LB, while running the rule over Minteh in pre season, and also looking at a rcb.
The only way we lose a mid is for top money, or someone wants to leave, or a release clause is triggered. Losing Bruno for example, wouldn’t be ideal, but you get one hundred million plus, and it unlocks potentially twice that, with owners wanting to put everything the rules allow into the team, kinda seems a bit of a no brainer to me.
Bruno is our best player, but is he better to have than the 3 or 4 excellent his additions his sale would allow? I don’t think he is.

Latest:
Botman bombshell
From NUFC, Wednesday, here we go again….
Newcastle United defender Sven Botman will undergo surgery next week after suffering a knee injury against Manchester City.
Following further assessment, a scan has confirmed that he sustained an injury to his ACL during Saturday’s match and he is expected to return to action within six-to-nine months.
The Dutch centre-back initially sustained a knee injury in September 2023 and elected for a non-surgical rehabilitation plan – a decision which saw him return to action in December.
The 24 year-old completed the entirety of the 8-0 victory at Sheffield United last September but then missed the home Carabao Cup win over Manchester City what was termed “a knock”.
By the following weekend’s PL visit of Burnley to Gallowgate, Howe estimated Botman’s absence to span the following month’s international break.
In reality though he missed a total of 17 league and cup fixtures before returning at home to Fulham.
Since then he’s appeared in all but one of United’s games in all competitions but struggled to recreate his previous form and looked anything but comfortable in recent weeks.
“and elected for a non-surgical rehabilitation plan ”
And that ties in with exactly what The Ledge has just posted, there was obviously a few roads to go down and the player chose that one, I’m pretty sure if all the specialists had of said have an op he would have, but given options he’s chosen not to. However, blame must be apportioned, fingers wagged and a delight in saying I told you.

It’s inconcievable that he wasn’t involved and probably would be a basis for a negligence claim if he wasn’t
