Peter Silverstone Identifies The Next Step To Increase Newcastle’s Commercial Revenue

Peter Silverstone, head of the Commercial deals at the club, told the Fan Advisory Board at the end of last month the top priority for Newcastle is now to do a deal with a training kit partner.

In the past, the partner who had the names of the shirts (like SELA has now at Newcastle) did the deal for training too, but the top clubs these days are separating the partners for the jersey worn during games from the players’ training kit.

That adds up to more commercial revenue for the clubs.

This is what  Peter Silverstone said in a meeting with the club’s fan advisory board last month:

“Securing a training kit partner is a top priority for commercial partnerships,”

“If we can attract global partners, they can help us to activate and attract new fans in previously unreached markets.”

“Adidas, for example, is committing to supporting our growth globally and from a brand perspective, it will be a watershed moment for the club.”

“Ultimately, that relationship, like all kit partnerships, relies on fans buying products locally and internationally.”

Silverstone has been the top executive at Newcastle driving up the club’s commercial revenues to hopefully be in line with the top six clubs in England asap.

We did almost nothing to increase commercial revenues under the previous owner, so we are starting with a low commercial revenue number.

But our total revenues in the last financial year – through June 30th of last year – were £250M – an almost 40% increase over the previous year of about £180M.

Commercial revenues increased from £28M to £46M – a 64% increase in the same period.

So we are getting there and the more revenue we earn the more we can spend on players according to the PSR (Profitability and Sustainability Rules).

What do you think?

“Telegraph Sport understands that the 23-year-old only backed his team to win”

Tonali has plenty of confidence in his team 😉

i think the botman injury is going to have a massive impact on summer transfers.

I couldn’t agree more, those two players may help with some much needed funding in other areas we 100% need.
Bots for sure need’s someone else that can.

    A. Help him but more importantly give him a rest.

Then a playmaker in the middle, and a young striker that can help out when Isak needs a rest.

And of course a sweeper keeper which makes us a way better team.
    So my count, four needed.

Some dead wood will be gone end of this season, free’s up some squad numbers.

But before all that fantasy shite, let’s kick West Hams arse this weekend.

Newcastle United vs West Ham Odds
With a 55% chance of winning, Newcastle United are favourites to win this Premier League match and they’re available at betting odds of -120 with the bookies. For those wanting to oppose the market leader, you can get +280 about West Ham United.

Bookies know their sxxt, trust them.

Of course, if you look closer, they ain’t sure. I agree. This game will be decided on details.

An error here, a brilliant move there.

And both teams have those in abundance. Yeay! Lots of goals.

But we got Lascelles to help him and give him a rest. And don’t forget Burn too, one of the first players on my team sheet. Play him as a CF, in goal if you must! Schar has at least another year in him, so relatively no problems at CB. Then, what’s lacking in our defence? A Pope, but we got one of those! And I think there’s only one Pope. (Actually two, now that I think about it)

What’s this team lacking then? A Bernardo Silva or two. A Docu.

This team, however, is really lacking depth. What’s the big deal, you say if we have 11+ good players.

All of them are slyly saving their strength during games, to last the 90″. Whereas last year they knew they’d be subbed if they slacked with the press and their game.

And the coach has a dilemma.

If he tells them to go all out, then they may get injured and there are no more bodies left. And, more importantly, he’d get told off on the blog.

So, he “let’s” them conserve energy, even inadvertently.

I think the chances of everyone getting a ticket for Brighton are remote given what we hear of bloggers success or lack of it in the ballot. An ideal scenario would be a 17:30 on a Saturday night so we could have a decent meet before and after and those without a ticket can watch the game together. The Forest one was too early to expect people to meet in a pub at 10:30 the day after Christmas.

    On Tonali…

I have some sympathy and understanding if he had a betting addiction.

    But…

That is overpowered by having absolutely no understanding or sympathy as to why he betted on football. The guy is already a millionaire, it isn’t as if he is betting to try and make a big win to splash out on himself, his family or put food on the table.

Tonali could have betted on anything else, but he bets on the one thing that he knows he can’t do, knows that if he gets caught he gets banned, and knows the club paying his astronomical wages will suffer from his ban.

And who suffers the most? Not Tonali, but the club, be it ACM if he was caught there or as it turned out NUFC.

Tonali gets to do sweet FA for 10 months while still picking up wages which the club has to pay for and, even if his wages were docked, we have a £55M asset that we can’t use and who could cost us points, CL qualification and a further huge loss of cash.

    But…

Most at SJP stood up and applauded him in his last appearance before the ban??

    Not me.

Tonali is a selfish idiot and the joke of it is that NUFC have suffered far more from his punishment that he has. We had fk all to do with his betting.

He’d better come back flying and justify his price tag, and more, because if he doesn’t he’ll go down as the outright worst signing in NUFC history.

In comparison to the rest of the season, producing 21 points in 10 games seems a bit steep. Although less specific, perhaps if we aim to beat West Ham & Brighton plus match their remaining results (WH+1), we will succeed.

Whilst I understand the link with good players like Braithwaite, I am not sure we need a replacement left centre back more than a right hand sided one. We currently have three possible stand ins whilst Botman recovers, so what happens when he returns.

I can understand people being upset and annoyed with Toobali, I am to some extent. But I worked with addiction for 10 years, yes drug and alcohol rather than gambling but all the same thing. If someone has a problem it’s help that is needed first. I can to some extent understand the ban but him and others need help.

I found with drug and alcohol use it’s mostly down to mental health. Maybe same for him and others, dies t matter how much money you have that is the escape route that is being used. The lad, other players and no doubt 1000’s of fans need help and people to work with them. This is what the club, FA and other organisations need to concentrate on. Need to put something in place to help and guide on to something else

On that kind of note, when Keith Peacock started to play for Charlton, his team mates went down bookies after training, he filled his time going back to old school and helping out with PE. We need something to take players minds away from gambling done how, far from easy, but let’s give these guys help. Let’s start with the kids coming through and guide them away from gambling in general and not just on football and other sports

I agree with Mund regarding Tonali.
He has an addiction, so you can’t throw logic at it, it’s an illness.
Normal people ( not many on here) may try and analyse it but unless you are qualified or an addict you/ we have no chance of understanding it by using only logic

    Mund…

I stick by my point that even with an addiction Tonali knew that betting on football was dead wrong.

He made a conscious decision to do that and to continue doing that even after we paid £55M for him – knowing that if he got caught he’d be banned and we’d lose him.

That IMO is a character fault, plain and simple.

Know where you are coming from, but we have to realise and understand when it comes to addiction there is no reasoning for those ones. It’s help that is needed no matter what addicted to. Many years ago when I was acting fir North Tyneside had a meeting with Newcastle and Northumberland, I said we are doing drug treatment now, give it a couple of years and be doing same for gambling when you look at adverts on telly. That must have been about 15 years ago dread ti think how bad now and know gambling clinics started few years back

    Mund, Mickey G…

If a drug dealer said he was addicted to dealing would that make him worthy of sympathy?

That might seem like a stretch as a comparison but the fact is far too many people are hiding behind the addiction and mental health curtain as an excuse for character flaws, laziness and the rest. Because in today’s society they know many will give them sympathy.

Those with real addiction and mental health issues need help, but my point is that those issues aren’t always an excuse for anything and everything that person does.

Is an addiction a character fault…?

I don’t think it is as anyone can fall into addiction.

Have the club been hurt by all this…? Absolutely mate but have always stood by our players. He will 100% come out stronger from this

You are talking about people who manipulate the system for their own needs but totally pushing to the side the ones who do need the help.

We are in a society of today that milks the system. We have women choosing to have more kids to only receive more money. We have male and females taking jobseekers week and week out who can clearly work but choose not to and to just milk the system.

They and Tonali have nothing in common.
