Peter Silverstone, head of the Commercial deals at the club, told the Fan Advisory Board at the end of last month the top priority for Newcastle is now to do a deal with a training kit partner.
In the past, the partner who had the names of the shirts (like SELA has now at Newcastle) did the deal for training too, but the top clubs these days are separating the partners for the jersey worn during games from the players’ training kit.
That adds up to more commercial revenue for the clubs.
This is what Peter Silverstone said in a meeting with the club’s fan advisory board last month:
“Securing a training kit partner is a top priority for commercial partnerships,”
“If we can attract global partners, they can help us to activate and attract new fans in previously unreached markets.”
“Adidas, for example, is committing to supporting our growth globally and from a brand perspective, it will be a watershed moment for the club.”
“Ultimately, that relationship, like all kit partnerships, relies on fans buying products locally and internationally.”
Silverstone has been the top executive at Newcastle driving up the club’s commercial revenues to hopefully be in line with the top six clubs in England asap.
We did almost nothing to increase commercial revenues under the previous owner, so we are starting with a low commercial revenue number.
But our total revenues in the last financial year – through June 30th of last year – were £250M – an almost 40% increase over the previous year of about £180M.
Commercial revenues increased from £28M to £46M – a 64% increase in the same period.
So we are getting there and the more revenue we earn the more we can spend on players according to the PSR (Profitability and Sustainability Rules).
What do you think?

On your article!
So, we’re looking for a training kit partner, something different to matchplay strips. “Big” clubs have come up with this angle and we’re following through.
We need to outthink them and be faster with this sort of thing.
Silverstone, if you read here, may I suggest:
Evening wear partner, casual wear partner, beach wear partner, . official hairdresser, bowtie partner, add something here partner.
The list is endless.
We got this!

Comment #54I’m really not sure why any fan of any club outside of that big six would just dismiss the complaints of anyone concerning FFP/PSR as blah blah or accuse them of whining. “That’s just the reality, they want to be in power and won’t like it if someone else wants to be successful”
The people who put up the Berlin Wall obviously didn’t want it taken down, they wanted it their to keep them in power. Were all Berliners that didn’t want it just whining and I’m sure that the people in charge dismissed their concerns as blah blah blah. Look how that ended.

Comment #56Bit worrying that Isak seems to have played 2 full games for Sweden!! Hopefully he comes back sharper from it
Interestingly he’s been playing às withdrawn attacker drifting to the left hand side and not as a centre forward……

Comment #57LCBP, to be honest I’ve never really thought of Isak as an out an out centre forward? He’s deffo an attacker, but looks more natural wide forward to me? Withdrawn attacker? Guess that makes him the current Swedish Peter Beardsley?

Comment #58I was based in Hameln, Germany at the time. Oddly enough, and Germans would probably deny it now, but the amount of West Germans who wanted reunification were as rare as tits on a fish. I knew my girlfriend at the time and all her friends were against it but we thought reunification day would be a good day on the lash but not a single person was celebrating in any bar we went to. Go figure!

Aye, why would they want a fresh work force who wanted a better life coming in and sharing spoils that used to be theirs, better just to dismiss them as whiners and blah blah merchant’s, just get on with it, life isn’t fair anyway.

Comment #62Jail…To a degree, it was more the cost to the taxpayer of bringing the east up to scratch and a lot it resentment that they were going to get a 1 for 1 swap for their East German marks in savings. Like I say, I’d imagine a lot of Germans would probably deny it but I was there. The only people celebrating it in bars in Hameln that day were 4 squaddies. Unbelievable Jeff!!

Comment #65Aye it is not interesting that Isak has played as a withdrawn striker or wide left these 2 games for Sweden……
Interesting that he once again has no goals or assists in those positions 🙂
I really don’t know what people want from him to convince them he’s a center forward. Look at his goals. That’s what you want from a center forward, anything else is a bonus.
He’s an out and out goal scoring center forward who can play wide left of necessary. But 100% his best position is center forward.
I’m close the giving up trying to show this 😀

Comment #76Alright then, one last point on Isak, as I feel like I need to defend our elite center forward…..
He has the best conversion rate in the league as a center forward, averaging a goal every 2 matches across 2 injury hit seasons. That ratio is incredible for any striker in the league, let alone a newcomer who has had injury issues. 26 goals and 2 assists as center forward. 1 assist and 0 goals as a left winger.
We then have, who I believe, our player of the season so far Gordon, who plays on the left and has 9 goals and 6 assists wide left this season.
We also have Barnes who has consistently scored goals from wide left in the league at Leicester and in his brief appearences for us, has shown he can do the same for us out wide.
We are still missing that number 10 type player, who can do eye of the needle passes, create chances from central areas, chip in with goals and in general just create chances in that final third when teams are hard to break down. Isak isn’t that creative number 10 type of player. Again, his stats back this up.
So we have a center forward banging in goals, a wide left player banging in goals (with one waiting in the wings, mind the pun, to bang in goals for us) and we need to buy a creative 10 type player that we’ve been missing for years.
Yet some fans want to push that center forward out wide, to disrupt both his goals, Gordon goals and no doubt Barnes’ goals. Or, make him play as a secondary striker or number 10, where his stats show he has next to 0 assists or goals in those roles.
I don’t understand why. It would take away so much from the team and add nothing.

Comment #79He’s been pushed out of being center forward for Sweden by Gyokeres and since playing wide left or secondary striker, he has 0 goals and 0 assists.
All his goals and assists for Sweden so far have come as a center forward.
