Peter Silverstone Identifies The Next Step To Increase Newcastle’s Commercial Revenue

Peter Silverstone, head of the Commercial deals at the club, told the Fan Advisory Board at the end of last month the top priority for Newcastle is now to do a deal with a training kit partner.

In the past, the partner who had the names of the shirts (like SELA has now at Newcastle) did the deal for training too, but the top clubs these days are separating the partners for the jersey worn during games from the players’ training kit.

That adds up to more commercial revenue for the clubs.

This is what  Peter Silverstone said in a meeting with the club’s fan advisory board last month:

“Securing a training kit partner is a top priority for commercial partnerships,”

“If we can attract global partners, they can help us to activate and attract new fans in previously unreached markets.”

“Adidas, for example, is committing to supporting our growth globally and from a brand perspective, it will be a watershed moment for the club.”

“Ultimately, that relationship, like all kit partnerships, relies on fans buying products locally and internationally.”

Silverstone has been the top executive at Newcastle driving up the club’s commercial revenues to hopefully be in line with the top six clubs in England asap.

We did almost nothing to increase commercial revenues under the previous owner, so we are starting with a low commercial revenue number.

But our total revenues in the last financial year – through June 30th of last year – were £250M – an almost 40% increase over the previous year of about £180M.

Commercial revenues increased from £28M to £46M – a 64% increase in the same period.

So we are getting there and the more revenue we earn the more we can spend on players according to the PSR (Profitability and Sustainability Rules).

What do you think?

A rotational center forward makes sense, as we clearly need one. Or someone who can also play across the front 3, so when we feel we need 2 striker on the pitch, Isak and the new forward can be fluid across the front 3 to cause problems.

But I can’t get my head around why some people don’t think Isak is a center forward, or he plays better wide left, or we should sign another top striker and play Isak left or as a secondary striker.

Nothing backs up that being a good idea. We’d take away Isaks goals, take away Gordons goals if we push him out wide, or push him into a secondary striker role which so far isn’t resulting in goals or assists for him for Sweden.

    I’m baffled.

    Adamn_92,
Aye, for me it has to be a right sided Isak rather than a Toney or Solanke, although I was getting frustrated with Isak’s injury woes recently.

He’s played out wide more times than Isak and with better numbers. So seems strange that Sweden are playing him as the center forward and making Isak go wide or just behind.

Isaks stats are better as center forward and Gyokeres has better stats out wide than Isak does. So seems like a backwards decisions.

Unless they regularly swap roles during matches, like how we’ve seen Isak and Gordon do.

That link Hibbit put up, shows Isak talk about his injuries this season. Essentially hinting towards having to play a lot when coming back from injury and that he feels he’s been pretty unlucky.

Kind of sums up the season injury wise. Unlucky and lack of options.

    With regards to the article.

We grew from 180m to 250m last year. This year we have adidas £45m, Sela £40m, CL £38m (I might be slightly off with those figures). Plus other new smaller sponsors. It’s probably realistic to think our new accounts will show 400m.

Arsenals TO is 533m and Chelsea £589. We’re not too far off!!

Potentially yes. Assuming these allegations are proved. You always have to get that bit in.

Pointless worrying about where Isak,s best position is as he will be sold in the summer to keep us in line with ffp and whatever financial restraints the greedy 6 can think of to keep us from sitting at the top table.
I wish i ran the PL, it would be very interesting and controversial, but in the Toons favour.

    Amanda…

Has lost her bankruptcy petition for an unpaid debt of £3M to company who helped fund her case against Barclays – which she also lost.

I’m sure she’ll stump up but her judgement has to be called into question on some of her financial dealings.

Good link there mate, i watch a lot of Craig Hope and he has always been very vocally supportive of Eddie, that`s not to say he has always agreed with all his decisions team selections or tactics, but by and large Craig Hope has always been very fair towards Eddie, so his comments totally reflected his consistent views towards Eddie.

Magic, Hope is accurate. I haven’t read watched the clip but guys on here can’t accept any form of negatives. That’s just silly, so I laugh.

Eddie gets loads of support from Hope, but for example he said from kick off that Tonali didn’t suit us.

He cud be right or wrong, but fair play for giving a potentially unpopular viewpoint

I agree mate, Craic Hope is not afraid to shy away from the difficult and meaningful questions, even though i`m a huge fan of Eddie, and would be delighted if he got all of next season to prove his true worth, in the end we all know his long term future will be determined by results. In conclusion give me Eddie Howe every day of the week and twice on Sundays over divisive characters like that self appointed so called special one.

I also like Craig Hope. He’s always felt we need a holding midfielder. Bruno did a very good job in that position on Saturday.
Will we see Anthony G tonight? We will need him fit for the game Sat. lunchtime.

Craig Hope has always been his own man, and basically gives his honest opinion in an open honest direct way, which i greatly admire, in contrast to a lot of other journalist`s who seem to be more like sheep and singing of the same hymn sheet.

Howe has enough credit in the bank but he’ll be judged on results , same as any other manager – love him and personally think he doing a good job, especially given our luck this season but ultimately owners won’t let sentiment get in the way as we fans do.
