Eddie Howe’s Indelible Promise To Newcastle Fans

There are many reasons why Eddie Howe is loved by Newcastle fans – even though we are going through a season that’s been completely decimated by unexpected injuries and suspensions.

Eddie Howe is adamant he will continue to play attacking football and the game on Saturday is a case in point  – 3-1 down after 47 minutes at home and it looked like all was lost.

But some good changes from the bench and we scored 3 goals in the final 13 minutes of normal time to win the game 4-3.

Poor Villa fans must have wondered what was going on.

This is what Eddie Howe said after Saturday’s game:

“I want a proactive team, we want to attack.”

“You have to accept you may be more open than a pragmatic team. But I believe it is our best chance for long-term success. Entertainers? I prefer another word.”

“Kevin (Keegan)’s team were ‘the entertainers’ – that is their tag. We want our own.”

“We have players coming off injured but the subs made a big difference. This can do a lot for us. We know we can turn games around, that’s positive.”

“I like winning like this, more than winning 4-0. They are moments you remember.”

“We go against Everton and now we can use this energy and confidence, momentum for the rest of the season.”

“We kept our belief. We played well offensively. Our attitude after being 3-1 down was amazing. Great feeling.

With Lascelles now out with an ACL injury through the end of this year and both Almiron and Livramento coming off injured on Saturday, we wonder what the team will be for tomorrow night.

But the fans will be there and another win is what we need – maybe without the late drama – some of us old-timers find the tension hard to take.

🙂

Think the team will have to look something like this if we don’t get our injured back.

    Dubz

    Krafth Schar Burn Hall

    Longstaff, Bruno, Willock

    Murphy, Isak, Barnes

Subs – Karius, Dummet, Murphy, Anderson, errrm?

I don’t think Krafth was injured, I was sitting were he walked off and he looked fine, but a bit annoyed with being subbed. It looked more tactical to me.

Great words from EH. It is a great way to win but I’d happily take a few 4-0 wins to make it easier on the stress levels. 🙂

Krafth was playing crap – that is why Eddie hooked him.

The whole back four were all over the place after Lascalles injury
Burn went centre half but kept wandering over to his usual left back position, Kraft at fault for their first goal playing Antonio on-side.
Second goal whole team asleep regardless if arguing about head injury – don’t know if Schar was caught looked soft
Third goal Burn caught miles upfield. Schar no where near. Gordon made a effort to get back not quite got to Bowen
Bruno looked knackered had a good right to be as Willock and Longstaff were poor looked out of sorts or had their flip flops on!

We should not need a bench to win tomorrow, as the starting line up should produce a win. Although some players may need to come off in readiness for the weekend, but who replaces Isak? Despite Krafth’s performance, he could start against relegation bound opposition, with Trippier coming on to build his comeback.

    Barnes—Isak—Murphy
    Anderson—Bruno—Willock
    Hall—Burn—Schar—Krafth
    ————-Dubravka

    Subs:
    Longstaff, White, Trippier, A.Murphy
Who are the Academy players in first team training?

Might be a fair question to ask why Hall hasn’t had a few more chances. It’s likely he wudnt have featured if the injury hadn’t happened, and Eddie’s first inclination was not to play him at all, but move Tino there.

    Fair question I think.

    “Subs:
    Longstaff”

Anderson won’t start ahead of Longstaff.

Would be thrilled to see Lobby rested and that midfield nadj but it’s highly unlikely.

Willock could lose out after a very quiet performance on Saturday

I wouldn’t normally suggest wholesale changes based upon one set of substitute performances, but it is undeniable that the team needs to be rotated and the impact Barnes, Anderson and Hall had on the match needs to be acknowledged and rewarded. The quick turn around between games and the level of opposition would make tomorrows match the ideal time to start with pretty much the same team that finished on Saturday. The RB situation may or may not be a straight forward decision if Trippier is ready to play, but taking the more cautious approach of playing the Swede may be better, judging on the experience of injuries this season.

Sorry about the raggedy crap with Ledge yesterday lads. We’re both gobshites. Might be best if Fenners kept his face out when he knew zero about the issue and was only trying to provoke and stoke the flames.

    Anyway, a new day today.

Willock has shown his adaptability at playing in the left CM birth, but remember he first started and scored all those goals pushing up on the right. We could do with a repeat of that.

    P!ssed off or injured?

Looked pissed off Clinath but hard to know. He has been decent recently whenever he got a chance.

The main thing initially is to get Joel signed up so we don’t have to replace him, given what that will cost, and how many other players we now need

    Munster,
We’ve all had a go at trying to understand why he’s not played Hall but you’re not prepared to listen unless the answer is blaming the manager.

But the disastrous injuries at CB do at least allow us to introduce pace at centre back, which hasn’t been there all year.

If we get a specimen like Onana at cdm we may see more attacking from both full backs, if Eddie given Hall his chances.

    Could be brilliant

    Oversensitive again Jail.

Perfectly valid question to ask of any manager. Not in your world though where managers aren’t questioned unless they are useless. On that basis you shouldn’t be a fan because you are not entitled to discuss these things right?

This is the problem on here. A fair question that is in no way a snipe, is categorised as a snipe because you are over sensitive.

I’m not having a pop at Eddie.

Next thing a few guys will be on here looking for a fight. One will tell me I’m a fraud fan. Others will doing other barbs.

I’ll react, get blamed and be requested to rise above it all.

Don’t worry I’ll quit here soon enough and you can have your playground.

it was hard to say what was wrong with Kraft he wasn’t having a good game and didn’t look at all relaxed and really never got up to speed,
i didn’t see him ask to come , so i think it’s anyone’s guess as to the reason why he was hooked,

If players stomp off down the tunnel it usually means they are injured or are upset.
If there was nowt the matter with him he should have sat with the other players to watch the rest of the game – thus supporting the on field players.

Lascelles gets injured and the whole back 4 gets moved around.
It nearly cost us the game.
Why not just move Dan to CB and play the best left back at LB?
And putting on Phillips helped us immensely.
It’s a game of two teams and one manager phooked up massively.
I doubt we would have won if Phillips was not brought on. He gave away the pen and was worse than useless the rest of game

The Hall issue has been greatly debated and there is no clear conclusion. But if he gets the opportunity to have a run of games and prove his worth the issue will go by the wayside. Same with Anderson who needs games to prove he has what it takes at this level. Plus if Barnes can take the opportunity to score early in games, the pressure on the team is reduced with obvious benefits.

No idea how Longstaff holds down a place. Anonymous for months. Anderson looks miles better.
Willock does not look the same player since his injury.
That leaves Bruno doing it on his own. Boy do we miss big Joe.
Targett on 110k and aJoe on 90k. Get your hands in your pockets

It was definitely a bad substitution initially and a clear indication that Eddie didn’t want Hall on.

I’m not sure that we can therefore all hail Eddie’s genius at developing players if Hall was suddenly great yesterday, but not for weeks on end before that

I’ll call it now – if Eddie sticks with Lobby instead of Anderson and puts Hall on the bench with Dan at left back, I ain’t gotta be a happy camper.

    We’re at home
    It’s Everton
You saw the template on Saturday

You will get a bad name if you call out Eddie selections.
Many exist here to blow sunshine up the rectum of the manager and players.
If you are not a blower, you are called out as a wum or mackem.

Everton and Dyche ball will especially on corners will fill our six yard box jostle pull shirts block the keeper and swing in high balls. Need to be strong and not get bullied.

Got to play Burn for his presence in the box

Best form of defence would be attack with quick balls keep it on the deck and get it up the pitch quick
