There are many reasons why Eddie Howe is loved by Newcastle fans – even though we are going through a season that’s been completely decimated by unexpected injuries and suspensions.
Eddie Howe is adamant he will continue to play attacking football and the game on Saturday is a case in point – 3-1 down after 47 minutes at home and it looked like all was lost.
But some good changes from the bench and we scored 3 goals in the final 13 minutes of normal time to win the game 4-3.
Poor Villa fans must have wondered what was going on.
This is what Eddie Howe said after Saturday’s game:
“I want a proactive team, we want to attack.”
“You have to accept you may be more open than a pragmatic team. But I believe it is our best chance for long-term success. Entertainers? I prefer another word.”
“Kevin (Keegan)’s team were ‘the entertainers’ – that is their tag. We want our own.”
“We have players coming off injured but the subs made a big difference. This can do a lot for us. We know we can turn games around, that’s positive.”
“I like winning like this, more than winning 4-0. They are moments you remember.”
“We go against Everton and now we can use this energy and confidence, momentum for the rest of the season.”
“We kept our belief. We played well offensively. Our attitude after being 3-1 down was amazing. Great feeling.
With Lascelles now out with an ACL injury through the end of this year and both Almiron and Livramento coming off injured on Saturday, we wonder what the team will be for tomorrow night.
But the fans will be there and another win is what we need – maybe without the late drama – some of us old-timers find the tension hard to take.
🙂
What do you think?

Comment #41I’m well aware JMiley mate…
It wud be an easier life if I just hailed Eddie and the players for the comeback
But I’m not sure what that adds to the debate or gives a larger picture for chat.
I’m lucky to have got back in touch with a guy I used to know in London and now play 5 a side with a couple of Irish nufc fans and they don’t carry on with the smoke blowing but are hard core loyal. It makes for a better debate, without the aggro of some of the tossers on here.
Must have a peep on Discord soon but home that TDS isn’t lecturing everyone.

Other than the booby prize of souther league Europe, we have very little to play for. Now is the ideal time to let these younger players have their heads and see if they can handle it.
It reminds me of italia 90 WC with Sir Bobby. He liked to stick with his regulars who he trusted until injuries forced his hand, and look how close we got then.
Let loose the TOON dogs Eddie.

I started on here in 2007 slagging off Ashley and got a bad name for that.
I pop up on match days and occasional down days like today.
But I’ve given up having a debate on here. It’s just a battle and not worth a carrot. I admire your fortitude but at the end of the day you get nowhere.

Comment #46Howe has already said why Hall hasn’t featured as much but the same old people turning it into a negative when Howe should be applauded for his work and management with Hall.
Same people who said Gordon was shit last season.
Hall wasn’t ready but Howe always kept the faith and praised him and the player he is and to become.
Reports the last couple of weeks of Hall really stepping up in training and being a lot more switched on with and without the ball
Well done Eddie

Comment #48Where are those reports coming from?
So a week ago and all season he avoided playing Hall like the plague, but then yesterday his hand is forced after ballsing up the substitution initially and now he is a genius manager
So essentially Hall turned into a swan only days ago and was rubbish all before that?
Right….
But if he was developing so fast he still wudnt have got on except for for the subs being a mess.
Right….

Comment #50On Saturday the game changed in the last 15 minutes. 20 or so if you include stoppage time.
Hall, Anderson and Barnes were key in that.
We were poor for at least 60 minutes and gave away 3 soft goals.
Isak seemed to come alive more with the introduction of those 3 players.
Said after the game. The players we had on the pitch and the set up for that last 20 minutes. It was arrived at by accident.
Credit to them for the commitment and for plugging away. Credit to those players who came on and did it.
However, will say it again, it was not by design.

Comment #51Jimiley……I don’t think anyone has a problem with a difference of opinion. After all, it’s just an opinion .
The problem starts when a poster repeats it constantly, like someone with a few screws loose that’s when the issues start
It’s the repetitive, almost like there trying to wind others up, start the issue, and then they try to play all innocent to the gallery when everyone and their dog knows what they’re up to.
It’s a sort of mental illness.
I suppose they should be pitied rather than mocked

You really are clueless beyond belief.
Hall throughout the season has not been ready.
It’s only the last two games he has shown some really quality and confidence on the ball and this is all down to Eddie Howe and his management of him.
You love to throw negativity at Eddie and you love it when you have cause to do that. You’re a simpleton who has been found out on here

As a regular contributer you must know that the Hall situation has been discussed loads of times with different theories as to why he’s not playing. Why are you trying to twist it in to some kind of taboo subject that you think people are scared to talk about. Instead of creepily asking why he’s not playing him why don’t you tell us your theory on why he won’t play him. Mine is that we’ll have to pay Chelsea a bigger fee if he plays so many games.

Comment #58On the Hall situation the Guy on Twitter who broke the Hall signing for us initially on loan and then on full term with ove 250k followers reckons it’s all down to payment structures and PSR who knows that and a bit of not being ready for first team football is the issue imo .

Comment #59The way Bohely runs the club it is very feasible that one of his representatives allowed a pay structure that said if he doesn’t play so many games we only have to pay x amount and if he’s a regular in the team we pay a lot more, if that is the case then Hall would be on board with that I would assume and would explain why Matt bloody Ritchie is getting minutes ahead of him.

Comment #61I think with Hall you have to remember he is only 19.
Years ago I read an article about Peter Beardsley.
It explained how he had built up his upper body strength.
Said don’t do it until you are 21 and the body is fully developed.
Wayne Rooney of course was exceptionally strong at just 17, but that I think was just his natural body type.
By the way. If you can bench press 60Kg, 3 or 4 sets of just 8.
You are plenty strong enough.

Comment #68I’m glad there’s a game tomorrow and we can concentrate on selection and performance. Like everyone I have wondered about Hall’s lack of game time. I have noticed his good form in recent weeks, incl. for an England team. He will go into my selection tomorrow.
Managers are not magicians. Guardiola has an elite squad at his disposal. Joelinton turning into a midfielder was based on needs must. It worked and Eddie went with it.
I think Eddie is a very good manager and I want him to stay for years.
I have been saying for weeks that I would like to see players like Hall, Anderson etc given their chance over the last few games.
For tomorrow we could play Murphy at right back and include Anderson in midfield.

Game against Everton on Saturday.
Put a great cross over for their first goal.
However, he came on as sub in the 63rd minute.
Few things could explain that.
Thinking though if he’s not first choice for Bournemouth – why not ?

Comment #73Hall played a good game against Manure months ago and played well against Boussia but then cannot get a game when he is plenty good enough and even Richie gets the nod over him.
He has played well every time he comes on.
So why can he only get a game when everybody is injured.?
It has foot all to do with developing a weak player. He was always a good player.
Two possibilities.
Eddie does not rate him or something to do with games played and transfer fee.
Developing a crap player is just baloney

Funny enough re Lloyd Kelly, I was speaking with 2 family members (Bournemouth supporters) earlier re Lloyd Kelly and apparently he has a number of clubs keen on his signature including Spurs, lfc, Monaco, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Stuttgart, but apparently it’s nailed on that he will be a NUFC player this summer on a free from Bournemouth.
I’m personally confident as Kelly would be signing for a manager he knows well in wor Eddie and an important factor is that he would offer cover in two priority positions, LB and LCB, he is tall, is rapidly fast, and provides great deliveries from the left. My only one concern especially in the current climate, this lad is injury prone. But on a free and rotating with Hall, may well work…
Here is wor Eddie talking about him when he was still with Bournemouth in 2020, you can tell he rates him highly, however he does mention his injuries even back then:
“With Lloyd, I truly believe he’s got everything he needs to be a top, top player. His career is out in front of him. If he can stay free from injury, then he can achieve so many great things.”
With Newcastle wary of FFP rules, it is clear that they could do with a good free transfer or two, like Kelly, to free up funds for elsewhere in their recruitment plans and I’m not ‘in the know’ but just feel this move makes sense for the player and Eddie Howe – who clearly rates him.
On top of all that Ben Jacobs feels he could be heading to Tyneside too:
“Regarding Kelly, I think he would offer a budget option for Newcastle and could be a direction that the club moves in. I don’t think there’s anything set in stone at this point. But I know Kelly would be open to moving to a club like Newcastle.”
Aye ledge I think there is a strong possibility he could sign for us, however as mentioned his injury record is a wee bit concerning mate.

Comment #75We could be without as many as 12 players for the Everton game tomorrow…
The players potentially unavailable are:
Emil Krafth (he went off injured I think)
Matt Targett
Jamaal Lascelles
Sven Botman
Callum Wilson
Tino Livramento
Miggy Almiron
Sandro Tonali
Kieran Trippier (there are reports he is back from injury. We really need him and I hope it’s true.
Nick Pope
Anthony Gordon (bloody suspended)
Joelinton
And given that Schar has a knock as well hope he will be ok, also Longstaff is only playing because of pain killing injections and you get to see the cause of much frustration this season – It’s honestly been like no other in living memory or ever!!

Comment #76Well why don’t we just trust Eddie Howe, surely he understands what is going on,
I can’t think for the life of me why he would intentionally hold the lad back. Why would he?
Has Eddie ever let us down?
He’s answered questions put to him about Hall, and he must have very valid reasons.
If fans, who for whatever reason don’t want Howe as manager, no answers will satisfy them.
We’ll see at the end of the season what the owners think.
Big transfer season coming up, got lots to look forward to.
So jealous of my son being in what used to be my seat, he said the last twenty minutes where unbelievable.
And his first ever away trip ManCity, was more than what he ever thought it would be.
