Here is the Match Cam – behind-the-scenes – video, of our terrific 5-1 win on Saturday at home to Sheffield United.
The win gives us a decent chance of finishing 6th in the Premier League this season and finishing with European football next season.
That’s our goal in the final 4 games of the season.
These videos are always good to watch – especially when we win.

Comment #121It’s a very clear sign that man u were bang against this new rule. They really didn’t want it at all, they will be looking at being sly and starting off the super league bollix again. I wouldn’t put it past them lot.

This new rule will mean we can catch and pass the so called big 6 clubs who have had all the financial benefits that superseded all the 14 EPL clubs. This will make it a much more level and competitive league now with the snidey 6 having the main monopoly.
NUFC’s new model where they buy a player like Bruno for £35m and make him into a £100m elite superstar is the way to go. The big clubs are capped and can’t blow everyone else out the water with crazy wages and huge fees etc. I personally hope it’s brought in and passed as we can catch those at the top much quicker in a nutshell.

Comment #123On Anchoring, I’m not sure it will help us to spend more.
Theres not a lot of information out there yet, but from what there is, I think it limits the richest clubs spend (on wages, transfers, agents fees) to a multiple of the lowest teams spend.
Therefore their massive revenue deals and European profits doesn’t them so much of an advantage.
Their ability to spend will be directly linked to whatever the multiple that is yet to be agreed to. (voted in)
No matter how much they earn.
As I say I don’t think it necessarily allows lesser clubs to spend more, but reigns in the spending power of the big six, as an attempt to close the gap between the two.
Basically the rest of the league rebelling against the huge advantage PSR currently gives the Top Six. (Making for the closed shop)
Just my guess from what’s been said so far.

Comment #124I see all these articles explaining how anchoring works and I understand but what they never mention is that uefa rules are different or how club’s that spend more than 70% of their revenue but are below the wage cap, are effected.

The advantage for us at this moment is we would be able to spend exactly the same amount as any other team in the league much faster!
So at the minute we are way behind in our revenue so the teams already established can massively outspend BUT if this cap comes in we will only need a smaller increase in revenue to be able to spend upto the cap whereas those with much bigger revenue can only spend upto the same cap as us!
Hope that makes sense as that’s my take on it! 😀

Comment #130But for me there is a slight snag to this new anchoring ruling. So yes it’s great as we can be in a level playing field with the sly 6…
However, it won’t be long before we catch them because we have such professionals at the helm making good decisions on sustainability and buying clever. Once we gets to the top level, we then find ourselves capped when we have the richest bloody owners on the planet that can throw £100m around like confetti. That’s the snag looking further down the line and where it may have us. The pendulum would swing in the end then we will be like a Man U and Man City not wanting these new shackles. I may be wrong but that’s how it stands out to me. But a positive change for where we are right now.

I’m not sure it does though. They quote Southampton at 105m so roughly 450m allowed on squad costs etc is something like twice our revenue so I can’t see how this can work. I’m no finance expert so maybe missing something glaringly obvious though 🙂

Comment #132My initial reaction to this Anchoring, is that it will also restrict the Premiere league as a whole. Players may choose to go abroad to get better wages.

So based on figures above we could spend £450m pa regardless of turnover?

Comment #134Om not so sure it will have much of an effect on the league or the top clubs as, according to the example given for last season, only Chelsea went above what the limit would be.

Comment #138There is a good article in the Evening Chronicle regarding the injury situation we have experienced this season, it contains some comments from Dan Burn regarding the injury crisis, media comments, etc.
“ Dan Burn has lifted the lid on his injury hell after admitting he played on just six weeks after breaking three bones in his back.
The Blyth lad and stand-in Newcastle skipper missed seven matches but returned just before Christmas battling on through the pain barrier for his club.
Burn also endured a rocky spell in the Premier League where he endured some mistakes in big games resulting in some fans calling for him to be dropped but Eddie Howe responded by not only retaining him in his line-up but handing him the captain’s armband.
In a season that has been badly hit by Newcastle injuries, Burn believes he had little choice but to return to the team earlier despite the serious back problem.
“I think it was something that just had to be done, Longy (Sean Longstaff) had to play through injuries and stuff. So it took a while to get into a rhythm again but now I feel really good.
I fell on my back and fractured three bones in my back. Essentially a broken back, it was agony and tough, you can’t really run off a broken back!
I came back within six weeks and wouldn’t have pushed myself through it if I didn’t feel good. I’ll not be the only person who has done that for Newcastle this season.</b)”
Burn suffered some intense criticism, particularly online, but has responded with some strong showings at centre-back and as captain he is aiming to lead the team back into Europe.
Some interesting comments from BDB which may encourage some folk to reflect on what they publish online, whether it’s just their opinion or not!

Comment #141I can’t imagine any club will be allowed to make any bigger losses so as Scott says, to spend to that top multiple the individual club revenues will still have to be grown to allow for that.
We’ll still be at a disadvantage in the short term, as will the rest of the league but not to such a great one.
Davas,
I’m guessing again but maybe Uefa will still allow ALL club revenues to be considered when complying for their competition(s) as is the case now.
(I guess it only becomes a problem if the bars set higher than theirs).

My understanding is completely as you say it won’t give us a leg up as such but it reduces the amount of revenue we have to achieve to enable us to have the same spending power as anyone else in the league!

Comment #145For me this anchoring was very much needed, after something like 11 years of blatant anti competition and dominance. So it the field is being levelled to remove the slimy 6 their advantage. Now NUFC can start to compete and grow the commercials to compete both domestically and obviously in Europe too…
We still need to increase our revenue for this to have any real benefit though which will not be an issue with the people we now have running the club. Related party sponsorships are an absolute must!
In a nutshell and as far as I’m concerned it’s fantastic, we’re coming for them all – Tara Cartel!!!

Comment #146The leg up for us comes from the wages the top 4 are paying because the cap includes wages, agent fees etc so if we keep our wage bill down those with players on £500k+ a week will have significantly less to spend on transfers when we are able to reach the spending cap!

Comment #149Scott / Fenners I guess we all just wanted the taps to be opened up as much as possible now.
But it will allow us more spending when we do need to splurge in a year or two .ie when we need to but top level players, and spend a lot of cash, to push on.
So its good, but a slower burn than me might want, but definitely good.

Comment #154Man City are by far the top dogs and under the present PSR rules would probably continue to be so.
Arsenal (currently) and Liverpool have made a good fist of it, but really only Man Utd and Chelsea have the (huge) spending power to compete with them on a financial basis year on year out.
Probably explains the voting.

Comment #155So another way of looking at it is that it doesn’t help club’s like ours (who want to play in Europe) grow any quicker but prevents club’s like city, man utd and Chelsea getting further away from us (in spend terms)

Comment #157FtC @ 94. It will be interesting to see how that pans out. Who will buy them? No doubt Man Reds will want top dollar for their rejects.
Who will pay their wages? All the players will be on top whack.
Will the players leave for less money?
Manc Reds couldn’t force Maguire out last summer because he wasn’t prepared to take a cut in wages.
Unless Saudi comes in and buys all their dross, they could be stuck with their deadwood.

Comment #158Why we have to wait until 25/26 season is beyond me.
Three clubs voted against, Man U and Man City no shock there but Aston Villa?
Chelsea didn’t want to say yes or no.
So if this comes our way it’s 4.5 times the lowest TV money allowed to the bottom team of the league which right now is at 105 Million.
Meaning 472.500.000 will be allocated but this includes wages, agent fees and transfers.
I hope Sky are on point here because this will be a game changer for a lot of teams.
