During his press conference for the game at Burnley tomorrow Eddie Howe was asked about the two-month suspended ban passed down by an independent tribunal for the 50 illegal bets made while Tonali was a Newcastle player.
Thankfully the ban is suspended and he will be able to start playing for Newcastle in late August and he will be like a £55M new signing for us!
The ban will be dropped if Tonali does not break the betting rules next season.
Here’s what Eddie Howe said about that:
“I think it’s the right decision the FA have arrived at, that his ban isn’t extended.”
We’re still supporting him and helping him through this time. He’s conducted himself in a really positive way.”
“I’ve seen the hunger to return there all through the time.”
“We’ve covered loads of aspects of his game to try and help him utilise the time in a positive way.”
At the beginning of pre-season, we should have all our players back from injury – apart from Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles and our squad will be stronger and deeper.
What do you think?

Comment #5No doubt Fabian Schar is a huge loss, as we are going to miss his guile and football intelligence at the heart of our defence!! i suspect Emil Krafth will step in and fill the breach, although he doesn`t possess the same attributes or class as Schar, i still think he is a good solid seasoned professional, and i`m confident the lad will do a good job.

Comment #18Elite finisher Isak to strike again?
Eddie Howe answered his own question last week. “Would I swap [Alexander Isak] with anybody else? No, I wouldn’t.” Which isn’t quite the same as claiming that Isak is the world’s best out-and-out No 9, but it’s not far off. It would be hard to argue against Harry Kane (although Isak’s age probably makes him more expensive) and Erling Haaland (although it would be interesting to see Isak’s numbers at City), but the Swede’s skill-set is increasingly rare: 6’ 4” but lightning quick, intelligent, strong, composed, composed with either foot. With 19 league goals (and seven in his last six games), there is no doubt that Isak is elite, and he has an excellent chance to further his golden boot chances at Burnley.

Comment #19Eddie says that Tonali took a voluntary pay cut from his £120k a week salary. Doesn’t say how much. Might have been good if some funds had heard into local charities, SBR Foundation etc.
A small donation to the pot for the blog meet would be a good gesture !

Comment #21Isak – up his total we have to get the ball up to him a lot quicker
Cannot play like we did against Fulham and Palace away and the first half against Sheff Utd.
Burnley will not be easy playing well at the moment but tend to be very open at the back.
Pity about Schar being missing.
Hopefully both Livramento and Hall are fit as they can both get the ball up field quickly.

Enough for a couple of rounds of Peroni would have gone some way to putting Tonali back in the good books.

Comment #23It was a long campaign without Sandro but the fact he was able to work with the Lads on the training ground is huge. Yes, he will be like a new signing but also one that already knows his place and how he fits into the engine room. Bruno, Sandro and Joelinton are gonna be hard for anyone in the EPL to deal with moving forward.

The one thing I’d like to see him do is to stop taking the ball across the defender when it would be quicker and easier to get a shot away with his left foot.
He’s done that a good few times in great positions and either lost possession of given the defender or keeper time to block the shot.
It might seem like nit picking when he’s scoring for fun but he could, IMO, potentially have had another 4 or 5 over the season if he sharpened up that part of his game.
The danger is coaches and defenders notice his preference and start anticipating Isak’s movement and showing him left in those situations.
He is an outstanding finisher, don’t get me wrong, but to go really elite he has to just vary his movement in the box a bit more, especially if he is on a break with a defender alongside him.

You don’t deserve any credit for Barnes or Tino, ITK work unless from a trusted source is just educated guessing. Your KP ‘done deal’ shows your ‘source’ is not trusted.

Isak is brilliant at it but it’s often his default move before takes a shot.
However, if he’s got a shot on with his left he should sometimes take it.
