Eddie Howe – Tough Start But Then Newcastle Performed Really Well

Eddie Howe was interviewed after the game by nufcTV and he was his usual calm matter-of-fact self – as Howe is after all games – win lose or draw.

Very much like Rafa Benitez after games.

Howe admitted that the first 10 minutes at Turf Moor was tough going, but the defense was solid, and after that, Howe thought Newcastle performed really well.

I am hopeful for 3 points at home to Brighton whose season has essentially ended, they’re playing for nothing in mid table, and it seems the manager is looking for opportunities elsewhere.

Yeah, I can certainly see four good additions, with Dummett and Ritchie released, perhaps also Karius, and potential deals done for one or two under contract, in time to line up a replacement. Four good additions to this group, Tonali back, and a more reasonable campaign injury wise. Smokin’!

    From the Telegraph

“Hall and Livramento were a threat all afternoon. Crucially, they were just as diligent and strong in defence. That is where they have really shown signs of growth. They have learned on the training ground and Newcastle are now reaping the rewards.

Howe has taken his time in starting them both deliberately. It is not too long ago that he implied he could not trust Hall to start games at this level, but in the last few weeks, the former Chelsea youngster has looked older, stronger and wiser. He looks like a Newcastle player – just as Livramento has done for a while – for years to come.

The future really does look bright.”

There are free or certainly low priced players who could come in and do a better job than Dummett or Ritchie. Wages may be higher, but they would also have a sell on value rather than 0.

Watching MOTD the ref/VAR decision making is consistent. Consistently poor.

Arsenal helped by the ref/var today. Lucky to get the penalty and Bournemouth should have had a goal or penalty

Ritchie today and Dummett against Everton have both led to opposition goals. Somehow both off the pace and not quite at the level we’re playing at those days.

Time to move on. Boro or Sheff Utd might come calling.

Worked today, got home, watched the match.
Driving me crazy working on a Saturday and not seeing it live.
Happy to see a win away from home against a team that have been playing well recently.
I give Longy some crap but was happy he scored, he hit that shot well. Just wish he could do it more often.
Eddie was a smart cookie setting up shop with the team playing Wilson with Isak it worked well.
Ow let’s hope for a Man U loss to stake our claim for six spot.

Here, Murphy MOM, good call for the last, who adds pace and directness to attacks.

The chronicle, same, though one article points to Wilson’s performance.

Me, I went for Hall, as a nod to his turnaround. In previous games, it was concerning that maybe we’ve wasted some good dosh.

BBC went with Bruno. He had a top game, as usual. However, a small detail. Early on, he DID push their forward in the box. Had a penalty been given, I’m sure it would’ve stood. Ref helped us there, that’s why he didn’t give US a penalty later, when Wilson was pushed. BTW, I consider this ref a good one.

Good morning and Happy Easter! (?)

Good team performance and great to see a tandem strike partnership really produce goals and space for others. My man of the match because he needed a boost…

    Excellent analysis from Ian Wright.
“Gordon was unlucky there, he should have maybe tried to hit the target”
Like he deliberately sent it two inches wide?

As per usual I got a way over the top reaction to my pulling Rh’s leg about Snagglesman, like taking a a sledgehammer to crack a nut then immediately backed up by Munster. Foo# it, why should they be allowed to forget the way they carried on during our blip. Nobody was happy about it, it was a real tough time not helped at all with those two incessantly whining about the managers failings. Plus, despite my mild leg pulling I think it was a reasonable question, would you still prefer Snagglesman over Howe?

It’s the hardest game in a while to pick a motm. Everyone played well.

I think after the first 10 minutes that was our best away performance of the season. We were in total control the whole match.

I know we hammered Sheffield Utd, but they were awful. This Burnley side had really picked up lately and had some good results and performances.

Motm could easily come from any outfield player today.

I’ve gone for Hall who I thought had by far his best game for us. I’ve doubted his signing but so pleased he proved me wrong.

Shame that Murphy did not get 3 assists yesterday, as he deserved really. The first goal supplied by his cross, comes off the post for the tap in. The use of two strikers narrowed the opposition and gave plenty of space on the wings. A very entertaining match.

West Ham have had a strange season. One moment they are brilliant then they can be awful. They’ve not been great of late but they did get a 2-2 draw against LFC last time out.

If the good West Ham side turn up today against chelsea then they have a chance of a result. Personally I believe it will be a chelsea win today unfortunately. NUFC must go out and win each of our last 3 games to get Europe league even if we beat man u as their run in is not a difficult one:

    chelsea

    Home – West Ham

    Away – Nott’m Forest

    Away – Brighton

    Home – Bournemouth

    NUFC

    Home – Brighton

    Away – man u

    Away – Brentford

    man u

    Away – Crystal Palace

    Home – Arsenal

    Home – NUFC

    Away – Brighton

Brighton could have a big impact on who qualifies for the Europa League. If we win every game we’ve done it. If arsenal beat man u at OT that will soften them up for when we play them and we’d could still do it with a draw because even if Chelsea win all their remaining games we can still get a draw and stay above them because of GD.

I hope arsenal don’t bottle it against man u at OT but I cannot see it as they are head and shoulders above man u. NUFC need to go into every game as it it’s a cup final and I have no doubt that they will as they have the best UNITED dressing room for togetherness, unity and solidarity.
