Newcastle are still being hit with injuries and it looks like Fabian Schar has played his last game for Newcastle this season – he’s had a terrific season and played in almost every game up till now.
But the good news is that Newcastle do have Nick Pope, Miggy Almiron, and Joelinton back in full training this week so all three could be on the bench for today’s game.
This is the side Eddie Howe could pick to beat second-bottom Burnley at Turf Moor today:
Dubravka
Livramento Krafth Burn (c) Hall
Longstaff Guimaraes Anderson
Murphy Isak Gordon
We now have three of our best center-backs Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, and Fabian Schar unavailable but we have faith that the 29-year-old Swedish International Emil Krafth can get the job done in our final four games.
He’s been an excellent squad player for Newcastle.
We’d expect Almiron and Joelinton to get runouts in the second half today, and let’s hope that (superstar) Joelinton, in particular, can find his form quickly.
We are currently 7th in the league table with Chelsea moving up on us and only 2 points behind after beating Tottenham 2-0 on Thursday night.
Premier League Table 2023-2024
Position | Team | Played | Won | Lost | Drawn | GD | Points |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
5 | Tottenham | 38 | 20 | 12 | 6 | 13 | 66 |
6 | Chelsea | 38 | 18 | 11 | 9 | 14 | 63 |
7 | Newcastle | 38 | 18 | 14 | 6 | 23 | 60 |
8 | Man United | 38 | 18 | 14 | 6 | -1 | 60 |
9 | West Ham | 38 | 14 | 13 | 10 | -14 | 52 |
Our goal difference could be our savior at the end of the season with +19 being the 4th best in the league.
Newcastle’s goals scored, 74, is also the 4th best in the league and the highest goals we have scored in England’s top division for many years.
So we need to strengthen the defense this summer and we will be flying?
Almost 60% of our readers think we can win this game today, but we must be near our best to get the job done away from home against a plucky and well-organized Burnley side.
A win would be absolutely terrific!
What do you think?

Win today and we sit in poll position, putting more pressure on Chelsea and Man U ahead of their games tomorrow and Monday.

Comment #5Fenners, I’ve told your army boys this to their face, as did other friends, as I told you before. And we were sooo scared! I had to educate one of them in work too. We didn’t like each other but when we went for drinks he didn’t try it on. Oh one of your brats from Carrick (?) Did when I lived in Yorkshire. He didn’t try it again. Him and his bullying wanky squaddie twats were ALWAYS looking for trouble and the local hated them. A tosser like you would probably be proud of them.

That’s the team I’ve gone for in the Bingo.
Likeliest change is Barnes instead of Murphy but the way he was bigging up Murphy was the clincher for me.
Although it wouldn’t surprise me if he started with Isak Wilson Gordon up front!

A win…it would feel like a catapult towards Europe.
Eddie was bigging up Murphys defensive qualities, interesting. He will deffo be staying but I’d gladly see others out the door

Hopefully we will get a DOF soon….have a strong feeling Eddie will want the prem experience again although that hardly seems relevant here. So I think Dougie will be the man

Comment #24Munster is right to point out some of the bad stuff done my the British army in Ireland. It happened. But it was an impossible situation for all concerned and is now in the past. Doesn’t diminish the good stuff the British army have done since those days in helping overseas. I respect anyone that has served, but it’s important to show humility as a soldier.

Comment #34This fisherman has severe issues mate. Comes onto an NUFC football blog and slanders our military and soldiers that fight for this country. I’m very surprised that it’s only a handful of us who rightly put this coward in his place. It’s a disgrace what he is doing for bites. Proper weirdo and very cowardly behaviour.
