Newcastle Get Terrific 4-1 Win And Fine Display at Burnley

After another tentative start, Newcastle turned on the power and were 3-0 up at halftime at Turf Moor with goals from Wilson (19 mins), Longstaff (35 mins), and Bruno Guimaraes (40 minutes).

Before Isak scored the 4th goal he missed a penalty for the first time after Gordon was fouled in the box.

It was not a particularly good penalty with the goalkeeper saving it down to his right.

The game was basically over at half time and Alexander Isak scored the 4th goal after 55 minutes – but we couldn’t keep the clean sheet with O’Shea scoring after 86 minutes with a consolation goal.

But the win away from home – gives us 56 points from 35 games and at the moment we are in 6th place with Manchester United playing on Monday night at Crystal Palace – an in-form side.

6th place is in Newcastle’s hands and 3 wins in our final 3 games will ensure we finish in 6th place and that will be a fantastic finish given all the injuries and setbacks Newcastle have had this season.

It was a fine team performance with good displays coming from Wilson,  Gordon, Murphy, Livramento and Guimaraes.

We needed this win today!

Well done lads.

I really thought the game would have been harder than it turned out as Burnley seemed to have really turned a corner and had good momentum. Saw that Luton hadn’t won etc. they came out the traps just as I thought but it didn’t take long before we expertly put them to the sword. A great confidence boost also with it being an away game. Very important players also on the bench and ready just in time to start against man u. Bring it on!!!!

    Rh,
I think it’s a reasonable question, do you still want Snagglesman to replace Eddie H?

Be interesting to see how we are as a team when Trippier comes back in

For me we look so much more solid in defence and slicker in attack having 2 fullbacks who do both duties

Having Gordon take set pieces has been a revelation we nearly score from everyone he takes at the moment

Not waiting for Trippier to come up to float a high cross that Isak is never going to score from everything is now done with the front 3 at pace with low balls into the box

As I said will be interesting to see how the team evolves as this version looks pretty good at times

Jail, seriously, you need to get out a bit.

I praise Eddie for good subs and you have an issue.

You must be some man at a party.

Murphy was amazing for Isak’s 4th goal. His speed to catch up with play and get the cross in was top drawer. He looked very good today did Murphy.

Hall and Timo wouldn’t have done their future England call ups any harm as they were both very impressive today. Wilson also looked back to his very sharp self. Happy days and we really are clicking together again just at the right time.

    Munster,
It’s the irony in you claiming to be fair snd balanced, from your comments previously you clearly don’t like the bloke, why come out with such scathing criticism because we lose followed by insincere “well done Eddie”. It’s sickening.

Anderson tearing after some guy 3/4 of the length of the pitch was so impressive late in the game.

    Murphy my motm.

A definite keeper next season thankfully.

Went for Hall, a transformed player. He was all over the place in the best sense.

When you win this big, many players must play well, so I hope I don’t leave anyone out. Dubravka was there when needed.

So, off the top of my head, Burn, Wilson, Bruno as always, Tino.

Solid games everyone else. Isak off his best, but got his goal. Gordon some great moves for the watching Southgate, but not his best performance.

Well done lads, 4 more points and we’re there.

Spurs can afford to lose to Liverpool and City, but lose or draw against either of Burnley or Sheffield and they could lose 5th spot. Reminds me of or relegated team beating them by 5 goals on the last day of the season, not too long ago.

Lee I fully agree on your point about set pieces and particularly your point about Trippier, it always slows the game down when he come across the opposite side of the pitch to take corners, added to the fact it gives the oppisition time to get their defence set up, also I personally see Tino as our best right back now Lee.

Missed the first 20mins and going by what the commentator was saying I’m glad I missed it. From what I saw was a really professional performance from the lads. we’re starting to look a unit again. Good to see the lads back and a strong bench. Bruno was motm today again for me. Isak one behind halaand, that golden boot is coming to the Toon I have a feeling. Play lik we did today as a unit behind the ball man u won’t break us down. Gotta say Burnley disappointed me today thought they wud of been better than that they look a relegated to me. Also I think a shout out to Eddie from what the commentator was saying it was Burnley first 20mins until Eddie tweaked tactics so hats off to him. 4points behind spurs I’ve always said we’d catch spurs but I was hoping 5th wud of got us a champions league spot awkwel let’s catch the footers anyway lol.

Bruno 66 league matches in the last 2 seasons
Longstaff 65 league matches in the last 2 seasons

commentators on the stream i watched were picking out these 2 players. there is no doubt they work well together. i’ve been a bit negative about Bruno only because i think he gets hero worshipped when football is about teamwork. but credit to both these 2 players this season and last. Longstaff is going nowhere!

I think young Hall is a bit under the radar at the moment and not getting the praise he deserves mate, his quick passing is superb as is his positional sense, with every game he is getting better, and clearly growing in confidence mate.
