Our Man Of The Match At Burnley – An Underrated Player

There were some good performances yesterday at Burnley in the 4-1 win but our top man and Man of the Match is Jacob Murphy with 34% of the vote.

Guimaraes and Gordon are second and third respectively in the voting.

The percentages are low because so many of Newcastle’s players had good games in a spirited team performance.

Jacob is one of the many players who have listened to Eddie Howe, trained hard, and become a better player under Howe’s expert guidance.

And Jacob’s contract at Newcastle still has three years to run through June 2027.

He has played 174 times for Newcastle with 11 goals and 18 assists – and he had two excellent assists yesterday.

Murphy had an excellent game for Newcastle at Turf Moor yesterday and deserves to be our Man of The Match.

The way Murphy sprinted forward for the 4th goal was very very impressive.

We’d all live the Europa but even the Conference will bring excitement and the teams at the sharp end are decent

Personally I thought Gordon was MoTM yesterday. He was all over the pitch and was a right thorn in the side of Burnley all game. There wasn’t a weak link in yesterday’s performance. I think everyone did their job with such aplomb.

The bench yesterday goes to show what we’ve been missing all season. How many times have we been able to name a strong starting 11 and strong bench?

Makes a world of difference for confidence, options and players fighting for their starting spot.

Yeah, Gordon left, Murphy right with Wilson and isak in the middle, one dropping deeper at times. Notably both in the middle for at least 3 of the 4 goals

Another thing about yesterday. Even though callum was back, isak took the penalty. Does this mean, when Trips comes back, Gordon and Hall carry on taking the corners and free kicks?

Sad but, looking at the number of people who voted, I guess a lot of people have left the blog.

    Good morning everyone.
Great to see big Joe back.

Makes me feel more confident we go unbeaten now till end of season.

Bit of a shame Harvey Barnes 38 million quid signing is now behind Murphy in the pecking order.
Think he may start next week mind. Seems better at home. Still think he’s a bit soft, but might come good once we have our top midfield back.

Might have a spare for Brighton game. Just waiting on me pal to try and get a couple. All is not lost magic. You wanna go Mund?

Barnes has a lower ceiling than Gordon. Still a canny signing for the money tho. If he stays fit he guarantees goals.

Controversial but do we even need KT as much now as a starter? Would hate to see Tino get dropped again. AG has been brilliant on set pieces for the last however many weeks now.

I think EH’s biggest asset, ie the ability to individually improve players is most reflected in the emergence of Murphy. Serious stats building up now and pace to burn. Massively under rated and v popular.

As talented as Tripps is Rotonda, too much goes through him and he slows our play down a lot.
Him and Schar play a lot of sideways ball at times and we just beem better on faster release from the back to speedies like isak Gordon and Murphy

Not sure we’d play the same if Trips came back in the team now. With AG, Hall and Joelinton/Anderson down the left we create a lot more down that side.

Pug – from previous – no it was 442 – with Murphy and Gordon out wide, Isak and Wilson up front. Of course players don’t stick rigidly to their positions – the strikers were pulling out wide and Gordon was drifting into the middle at times.

    Davas,
I was just about to post the same article.
    Way too slow !

Everton are in the brown stuff as this lot won’t pass the fit and proper test for the EPL and Richard Master and co won’t dare damage their and Premier League reputations by being associated with such shenanigans.

They have massive debts, points deductions still looming and a good looking new stadium nearing completion but opening it is another matter.

Perhaps Jimmie Radcliffe could sell up at Salford United and ride to their rescue.

Trippers experience and leadership is still valuable and he’s still a very good player. I think if he comes back into the team, we need to stick with our current play style though. Not revert to having most of our play go through him.

We’re more dangerous down the left with Gordon anyway, so would be a mistake to start focusing down the right just because Trippier would be there.

I think Trippier will be off in the summer anyway.

Hall looks so useful and lots more to come from him Davas. Will balance the left so much better than Burn

Kelly also is happy to get forward and get a ball in, if we get him.

On a different note, wonderful to see Joel galloping around looking for someone to clatter.

Let’s just hope his fitness holds next season, not forgetting Willock .

    And then Tonali

I wonder if we buy another midfielder? Probably not?

To clarify my clarification, I wasn’t being detrimental to Trips. I think we could still play as we do now, and not just go down the right, if Trips was playing.

To a know nowt, it looks like we are starting to get options in the way we play. This takes time on the training pitch and available personel, something we haven’t had a lot of this season, but it seems to be slowly coming together 🙂

A massive well done to the lads yesterday for a fully professional performance, i didn`t see that coming tbh, i thought it would of been a tricky game but we coasted it eventually, after a dodgy first 15 minutes.
Im giving my MOTM to Murphy, with Gordon once again being a total pain in the arse for the opposition defenders., what a signing he has been.

The Chelsea fans were spot on regarding Hall, giving him time and a good manager to coach him, and he will be a top left back.
Eddie’s management of him up to now has been top notch .

Can anyone remember Irving Nattrass and Alan Kennedy playing for the Toon on the 70`s, i think they were our best full back pairing ever, however, young Tino and Hall potentially could be a fantastic pairing for us, and could take the honours as our best two fullback duo.

This is an interesting stat, we have Maddison, Jesus, Mac Allister, Fernandez, Toney, Mudryk, Gallagher, De Bruyne, Gibbs-White and Mainoo have all scored less EPL goals this season than Sean Longstaff.

With a reported injured foot which needs injections and with him being the diabolical player he is to a few of the usual naysayers off here. It just goes to show that lobby has been a big part of why we’re challenging for 6th with a seriously depleted squad this season. Eddie knows best.
