Eddie Howe Determined to Keep This Player For One More Season

Most of us have been thinking that this would be Callum Wilson’s last season at Newcastle but the way he has come back into the side and scored two goals for us may change some minds.

Certainly,  Eddie Howe is keen to keep the player next season.

Even though Wilson has had another injury-ravaged season he is still the second top joint goalscorer with Anthony Gordon with 11 goals, 10 of them in the Premier League.

Isak tops the list with 24 goals – 21 in the Premier League.

It was also Wilson’s 47th Premier League goal for Newcastle and one more PL goal will take him into second place above Peter Beardsley in the Newcastle Premier League goalscoring.

After the match, head coach Eddie Howe had these words to say about Callum, who was also at Bournemouth for 6 seasons with Howe:

“Write him off at your peril for sure because he comes back time and time again.”

“He’s a very motivated player and wants to do his very best at every moment. I’ve managed him for a very long time now and mentality wise I wouldn’t swap him.”

“He’s a monster, he’s got a focus and when he’s got a goal he’ll go for it.”

“We knew today was going to be difficult and highlighted really by the first 10 minutes,”

“We knew Burnley would come out firing and that the crowd would play a part in that, so really pleased with the reaction to that first 10 minutes.

“And then from the first goal onwards, I thought it was a really good display from us.”

“I thought confidence and strength is gradually returning to the group so it was a really good day for us.”

“We’ve got three games to go and we want to try and give our best in each game. We want to try and play with the energy and intensity we had today.”

“Our away form has been inconsistent, it’s really good to see us win on the road in such an impressive way.”

If Eddie Howe wants to keep Wilson for next season he should, and we can bring in a young striker to fortify the squad.

His goal against Sheffield United in the 5-1 was superb, and it was a good opportunist goal he scored to put Newcastle 1-0 up on Saturday at Burnley.

Wilson has played 107 games for Newcastle with 48 goals and 11 assists, since signing a four-year contract for around £20M in September 2020.

His contract has just over a year to run and don’t be surprised if he gets a one-year extension in the summer so we could still get a transfer fee from him if he leaves next summer.

On the other hand, because he’s given such good service he may simply become a free agent next summer, assuming he stays for one more season.

We remain 6th in the league table with Manchester United able to go one point above us if they can win at Crystal Palace tonight.

What do you think?

    Great result for us

Really need to be on it in the next few games as Chelski are on a bit of a roll.

If we finish 7th ahead of Man U but get pipped by Chelski that would be gutting, more so because in that possible but unlikely scenario, Man U could win the FA Cup and nick Europe from us. Slim chance but years of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and the establishment helping Man U at every turn has me looking worst case ?

On the flip side if the stars align there’s a very slim chance Bournemouth could finish higher than Man U lol

People are saying Chelsea are on a bit of a role. We’re in better form and with 4 wins and a draw in our last five is good. Chelsea have 3 wins and 2 draws. We’re 2 points ahead of them with a better goal difference, the pressure is on chelsea mainly as they’re chasing. We can afford a draw out of our last 3 games. If we put Brighton to the sword on Saturday. That’s a huge result as man u play arsenal before us and by the time we play them their heads would have really gone. Not to mention the disharmony within their camp.

Let’s see how chelsea fair against Nott’m Forest. Thats a tricky game for them and I can personally see Forest getting at least a draw. If they draw at least they’re safe and with all the bad decisions that’s went against them they feel hard done by and they will be right for this game to say FU to the EPL. Wood will get a phone call to really do his mates and Eddie a favour.

    Alreet Rom lad…

Aye so far man u biggest defeat of the season. If you didn’t watch it tonight it could have easily been 6-0 easy. They have arsenal next then us lol.

There Casemiro and Evan’s were the worst CB pairing I’ve witnessed in a long time. Then two again out front 3 will get absolutely smashed. OT or not. We need to really go at them when we play them and put them to the sword.

Ps the next blog meet. You have to make it up, no is not an option this time mate 😉

    TDS,

I’ve always wanted to say that avatar picture your stance is all wrong. Did you slice your shot into the rough at all? Or was it just a picture for here and you didn’t even take the shot? And who the hell even took the picture in the first place lol

Fenham – a mate of mine took the photo without me realising. It’s true that I wasn’t set up correctly because I wasn’t fully set up when he took the shot. But yeah, I did happen to fade it into the light rough. Wouldn’t call it a slice in that instance! 🙂
