Eddie Howe Determined to Keep This Player For One More Season

Most of us have been thinking that this would be Callum Wilson’s last season at Newcastle but the way he has come back into the side and scored two goals for us may change some minds.

Certainly,  Eddie Howe is keen to keep the player next season.

Even though Wilson has had another injury-ravaged season he is still the second top joint goalscorer with Anthony Gordon with 11 goals, 10 of them in the Premier League.

Isak tops the list with 24 goals – 21 in the Premier League.

It was also Wilson’s 47th Premier League goal for Newcastle and one more PL goal will take him into second place above Peter Beardsley in the Newcastle Premier League goalscoring.

After the match, head coach Eddie Howe had these words to say about Callum, who was also at Bournemouth for 6 seasons with Howe:

“Write him off at your peril for sure because he comes back time and time again.”

“He’s a very motivated player and wants to do his very best at every moment. I’ve managed him for a very long time now and mentality wise I wouldn’t swap him.”

“He’s a monster, he’s got a focus and when he’s got a goal he’ll go for it.”

“We knew today was going to be difficult and highlighted really by the first 10 minutes,”

“We knew Burnley would come out firing and that the crowd would play a part in that, so really pleased with the reaction to that first 10 minutes.

“And then from the first goal onwards, I thought it was a really good display from us.”

“I thought confidence and strength is gradually returning to the group so it was a really good day for us.”

“We’ve got three games to go and we want to try and give our best in each game. We want to try and play with the energy and intensity we had today.”

“Our away form has been inconsistent, it’s really good to see us win on the road in such an impressive way.”

If Eddie Howe wants to keep Wilson for next season he should, and we can bring in a young striker to fortify the squad.

His goal against Sheffield United in the 5-1 was superb, and it was a good opportunist goal he scored to put Newcastle 1-0 up on Saturday at Burnley.

Wilson has played 107 games for Newcastle with 48 goals and 11 assists, since signing a four-year contract for around £20M in September 2020.

His contract has just over a year to run and don’t be surprised if he gets a one-year extension in the summer so we could still get a transfer fee from him if he leaves next summer.

On the other hand, because he’s given such good service he may simply become a free agent next summer, assuming he stays for one more season.

We remain 6th in the league table with Manchester United able to go one point above us if they can win at Crystal Palace tonight.

What do you think?

Seagulls sent squawking back down south with their wings clipped after magpie mauling is the headline I would like to see next weekend.
If we are still to be in the race for 5/6th, 3 points is a must before we head to OT.
Brighton not much to play for so hopefully they have one eye on their holidays already, I think both spurs and Chelsea will pickup 3 points on Saturday unfortunately.

Like everybody else, I’d love to see a win for us at the weekend and a loss for Chelsea and Man Utd. That would put us 5 points ahead with 2 games to play. Much easier on the nerves as 1 point would probably be enough for 6th.

Dan Ashworth must be so happy he’s going to a cohesive club with no structural issues, deadwood gone, an abundance of young talent, players without egos, management team in their prime and getting the best from the squad, motivated dressing room, everyone pulling together and a set of forgiving local supporters who are tightly connected to the club and area and who will afford him the time to get this of it perfect.
Just what he deserves, except for the massive paycheck.

Coming Home – the grip in that photo isn’t correct though, I can see that. I’m also probably not leaning quite as much these days and I’m a little more upright. I haven’t hit too many 249 drives recently, let alone 349!

Now don’t you forget that you said you’d get your chum, Mund a ticket. He’s worked his little socks of fighting your corner and he deserves a little reward.

And while I’m on, I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I couldn’t help but be impressed by your language (“You’re a coward and a the dirtiest of little RATS…You have jam jars bottoms for glasses and look like a raging nonce and I’d bet that you are too…..”).

Such eloquence, the product of a classical education.

Your tales from your fantasy world were much more entertaining. Tales of your friends in high places, presentations for your directors, opportunities you couldn’t refuse, Elfin Safety (is that Mund’s safety?)

I’d certainly keep Wilson, if I could. But then again, I’m sentimental. The club won’t be of course. Which is how it should be. Depends on the quality of the offers that come in for him, and if a good one comes in early enough to replace him, and whether he wants to go of course. I suspect Eddie Howe might be more inclined to let Miggy go.

Teamtalk article saying Casemiro will have his choice of Saudi clubs this summer, and MU will hold out for £30M.

Surely with the way the Rat is behaving then no Saudi club is going to help MU offload that £350k per week waste of space, AND, pay them £30M too??!!

No other clubs around the world can afford him, so if Saudi clubs say no then MU are stuck with him till his contract expires in 2025.
