Newcastle Have Huge Opportunity To Finish 6th Top This Season

Against a good and in-form Crystal Palace team at Selhurst Park Stadium last night, Manchester United again imploded and went down 4-0, and their defense looked hopeless.

With Newcastle back to full strength with Isak, Gordon, and Wilson all fit, the chances are we can beat Manchester United away a week tomorrow night and further our claims to finish 6th top.

And any further lapses from Tottenham, who have lost their last 4 league games and Newcastle could even catch Spurs, but that’s doubtful at best – but possible.

In those 4 previous games, Newcastle captured 3 wins and 9 points, so we have gained 9 points on Tottenham over the last 4 league games.

If Newcastle win our last 3 games or even get 7 points, then it looks like we will finish 6th – because of our much superior goal difference.

That’s whatever Manchester United and Chelsea do over their final 3 games of the season.

Here are the league standings at the moment.

Premier League Table 2023-2024

PositionTeamPlayedWonLostDrawnGDPoints
5Tottenham38201261366
6Chelsea38181191463
7Newcastle38181462360
8Man United3818146-160
9West Ham38141310-1452

So the final 3 games of the season are crucial.

And it will be close to a miracle if the boys can finish 6th top and it would be a testament to Eddie Howe’s coaching abilities, given all the injuries we have had this season.

What do you think?

    Bills,

I think the road is closed off from The Strawberry to where the Milburn Stand lower entrance is!

Not sure exactly where you can be dropped off – just a thought – hopefully helpful.

A lot of us want rid of Wilson, a lot don’t either mind but here we are making out that a guy who misses as many as Wilson is an astute signing. The only reason I see it as astute is if he’s available for a vast majority of the season. Or is that the only reason we’re getting him for free because he won’t be.

Just my opinion but Kell would be a total dud if we signed him.

For LB we already have Hall, Targett and Burn. Tino and Trips can both play there too.

For LCB we have Botman and Burn, with Schar playing there when Botman was out. We also have Lascless and Krath doing well at RCB, which is where we should really strengthen.

    Injury record for Kelly:

    23/24 – 3 injuries covering 23, 38 and 81 (still out) days, missing 25 games so far.
    22/23 – 3 injuries covering 8, 102 and 40 days, missing 18 games.
    21/22 – 1 injury covering 26 days, missing 4 games
    20/21 – 3 injuries covering 28, 2 and 12 days, missing 10 games

His record is getting worse over the past 2 seasons. Why anyone would want a bang average defender with that record is beyond me. We have plenty of cover without him and it’s just another addition to the wage bill for a guy who’ll spend half the season in the treatment room and we’ll outgrow in a year at best.

Better off buying/signing a quality RCB then you have 4 good CBs (including burn in that), 2 good RBs and 2 good LBs…with Krath and Lascelles as back up.

Targett hasn’t exactly been much of an asset this season, seems to be more suspect than Kelly might be!

If kelly is fit. He’s far from a dud. Brilliant tackler. Phenomenal pace, a real athlete.

Alex Murphy wud surely then go on loan, which he needs

    Bills
There’s a temporary one way system and lights down Queen Victoria Road in front of the RVI. On match days it’s chaotic.
You can only come down Richardson Road past the Dental Hospital and RVI on your left to bring you out at The Trent. Then left past the RVI main entrance on your left. Can drop off around there and walk up to back of East Stand. No parking though.

Just a heads up for anyone going to the game on Saturday, either driving or using public transport.
The Tyne Bridge is under repair, new paint job, so it is down to just one lane.
The Tyne Tunnel is down to one lane due to ongoing repairs, and believe me the queues during rush hour is a nightmare.
There might be some disruption to northern train services on Friday due to strike action, though i am not sure exactly when that is affecting the region.

I need to revise his injury record as transfermarkt is wrong. It’s got him out injuredsince Feb 17th, which simply isn’t true.

I’m certainly not putting my head on the block and saying he’ll be a dud ala “what type of idiot would sign him” I just hope it’s not a massive gamble and his injuries are just unlucky.

Very true sir. I did miss him off. Another one for cover.

Agree on Targett but he’s here now and doubt many will be pushing to buy him given injury record and wages.

I meant a dud in the sense he’ll not play enough to be an asset to the squad, not in terms of his quality. But those transfermartk stats are wrong, so not a clue if other years are accurate now. So maybe not missed as much as I’d thought based on those figures.

    Manure started negotiations with Olisse
    .
Would he really want to join a rancid bunch of whingers like that lot.
Tbh negotiations mean nowt, it`s signing on the dotted line that counts.

No doubt if we sign this lad Lloyd Kelly everyone will get right behind the lad, but it begs the question, given his suspect injury record, and the fact we have so many alternatives who can play that position, i would personally prefer we prioritised different positions!! Just my opinion though.
