” IF Kelly is fit ” the if says it all Munster,
very good player but a bit of a sick note, must be a big gamble with his injury record even on a free ??

We should not pay more than 50mill for anyone who doesnt have great and ‘consistent’ stats attacking g/a wise. We dont want another Pepe or Antony do we

This is great by Tonali getting out and about in the community. However this is as random as you can get:

No doubt if we sign this lad Lloyd Kelly everyone will get right behind the lad, but it begs the question, given his suspect injury record, and the fact we have so many alternatives who can play that position, i would personally prefer we prioritised different positions!! Just my opinion though.

It looks like Kelly Gate is now a thing on here then eh haha

Negatives – Injury record no getting away from it it’s been poor although I think Iraloa has also not been playing him as much because he’s leaving this season

Positives – he’s a great player he’s easily a top 6 quality defender and has pace we need

Eddie likes him so will get used straight away to do a job

Free transfer which means we save on a fee to spend in other areas

I know people say we have 3 LB but do we really ? Targett missing in action Burn isn’t a top quality left back he just isn’t been exposed so much this season looks like a proper player in his correct position now don’t really want to see him at left back again

Hall is still a prospect don’t even know if he will be a full time fullback eventually

Now Kelly would come in and likely rotate with Hall at left back or Burn at CB

He would be replacing Dummett or Manquillo both injury prone but not quality when they play so It upgrades the squad

It’s a risk signing him but in a PSR / FFP we have to take some gambles as if it pays off well we have a belter of a player

If it doesn’t then we are no better off than having Dummett and Manquillo on the bench……

    Magic,

Hope you’re well fella and looking forward to finally meeting the best tash since Tom Sellek 😉

Re Lloyd Kelly, I think it’s an absolute no brainer to sign the lad on a free, he covers 2 positions which is LB and LCB and is an immediate Dummett replacement. No disrespect to Dummett as he has served our club very well and is one of our own and is a cracking professional. However, Kelly is a huge improvement for the squad and his injury record is better than Dummetts. The major thing we must take into account and consideration is that this is a free transfer and that lessons the risk IMO. I think our first choice at LB is Hall and Kelly may be used as back up for LB and cover for BDB at LCB until Botman comes back into the fray.

So the potential signing of Kelly is as mentioned a no brainer especially as he has the same surname as me mams maiden name 😉

Afternoon mate, i think my tash might be more like Cliff Thorburn the Grinder 😀

On a serious note, i have absolutely no qualms about the ability of Lloyd Kelly mate, but you can`t deny his injury is a grave concern and at least a gamble, added to the fact we have a multitude of players who can play that particular position. I guess it all comes down to how many players we sign in the next window Fenham, for example if we only sign say 2 players, then given how much cover we have at left back, it certainly shouldn`t be a priority position in my opinion mate!!
Looking forward to meeting you and all the lads on Saturday for a few pints mate.

I just can’t see how saying his injury record is better than Dummets can be used as a selling point to the doubful. It’s like saying Mad Frankie Fraser didn’t spend as much time in jail as Charles Bronson as a character reference or that Stephan Guivarch scored more than Shefqi Kuku when claiming he should start up top.

Please, let’s not have Kellygate! I have no axe to grind here one way or the other. I do feel young Hall could develop into an attacking midfielder on the left.

Good to see our friends at PSG flirting with the woodwork yesterday. Dortmund are a grand club and fan base.

    Magic,

Cliff thorburn now there’s a blast from the past 😉

I hear you Magic, as Kelly’s injury record is of course a concern especially after a season like this one. However, with our issues with PSR/FFP it’s a no brainer to bring this lad in on a free. He is a very decent player and if the powers that be opt to bring him in I’m absolutely fine as it will allow us to go big on other positions. I believe he will be used sparingly if he is brought in but gives us a much better squad depth. He is a terrific athlete with bags of pace and can really deliver a good ball into the box and is good in the air.

We shall see mate. It’s a healthy debate mind you if we should get him on a free and for good reason.

    @Jail

It’s a risk but if we were to buy a Kelly esque player with no injury issues looking at easy between 20 to 35 million especially if it’s Premier league experience being a requirement

Also Tosin who we also want missed 14 games this season through injury as well…… 🙂

Dear me… You’ve just brought up characters (and 2 are proper characters lol) such as Mad Frankie Fraser, Charles Bronson, Stephan Guivarch and Shefqi Kuku when getting your point across as to why we should think otherwise to signing Lloyd Kelly on a free. 😆

Magic I’m really excited about Kelly. I’m closing my eyes to his injuries and hope that our medical team treat him with kid gloves.

But this guy is a serious player with searing pace. In fact he sometimes allows wingers a yard to let them think they are going to cross, until his pace and decisive tackling gobble them up.

As someone said he is a 30-40mill player….for free. Its brilliant.

It’s a happy birthday today to our Roman Sandro Tonali . Not long and we will have him back enforcing our MF dominance for the foreseeable. It will be like a huge new signing, however one that has already settled into his surroundings and how Eddie sets up and Eddie’s requirements.

IMO he will have one hell of a season next season.

    Martoon,

Yes mate he certainly does owe us a huge season and I reckon he will want to do this as appreciation as to how he has been managed by the club throughout his ban. He has been out and about in the city (I posted a picture of Tonali in full PPE whilst visiting Shepherds offshore with a worker/fan) – So he would be IMO in awe of how well he will be getting recognised and received from the Geordie community…

He will most definitely repay us next season and hopefully in time become a club legend.
