There was some great news yesterday: Newcastle have agreed in principle to sign 25-year-old Bournemouth player Lloyd Kelly as a free agent.
Newcastle had been interested in Kelly for a while and it’s good news as Eddie Howe knows all about the player’s capabilities, having signed him and coached him at Bournemouth.
The left-footed player can play in central defense and left back and it’s the defense we need to strengthen for the coming season.
He’s versatile and he can play either left-sided or right-sided central defense.
The 6ft 3ins tall
Kelly has also played the last two seasons in the Premier League so he should fit straight into Eddie Howe’s way of playing.
Eddie Howe also pushed for the deal and with so many FFP/PSR restrictions this is an excellent signing for Newcastle.
The Bristol-born player has played 139 games for Bournemouth with 3 goals and 8 assists.
With Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman being out with ACL knee injuries until the end of the year Newcastle seem to know exactly what they are doing.
And we have also been linked with 26-year-old Fulham center-back Tosin Adarabioyo, another free agent this summer.
We also expect players to leave this summer to allow room in the 25-man Premier League squad for next season.

Comment #82Will Pope start any of the remaining fixtures?
Definitely our better keeper but is he ready to step straight in at a crucial time. It takes players a while to regain match fitness and there are not many left, plus will he be immediately confident about his shoulder. I hope he can make a substitute appearance and then take it from there.

Comment #84It’s a shame that Matt Ritchie’s dig at our fan base and defence of Ashley will sour my memory of what otherwise has been a very good servant of the club.

Comment #87Not sure about Pope, a keeper isn’t the same situation as say Trips who might get twenty minutes and half an hour before a start, you don’t ease a keeper back in. If he doesn’t start then I can see Dubs coming off for the last five for a send off if we’re winning comfortably as I think that’ll be Dubs last home game.

The Overlap interview with Eddie is too short! But covers things that have not been heard before, little added insights.
The True Faith podcast with Lee Edwards is also well worth a listen, as it is practically glowing in praise for Eddie and offers a closer perspective of the āmanagerā.

Comment #90Tino should play practically full game against Brighton, then start against ManU and bring Trippier on to really screw with them.
Joelinton should be an early sub tomorrow in preparation for a start against ManU.
Wilson to start tomorrow for 60 minutes, for old time sake.
Not sure about Barnes & Almiron, but are there to be used when necessary.

Comment #94Kelly will be a great signing, strengthening the squad whilst keeping our powder dry for other areas of the pitch.
The reality is every player is a gamble: “proven” players can drop like a stone eg Torres, Shevchenko etc whilst some with a previous good record could suddenly get injured. With FFP/PSR set the way they are 1 big money flop could be the difference maker so its better to gamble a free player and try to get the “bigger” buys at less of a gamble, surely?
Kelly also replaces Dummett who, during his 13 years here has placed less than 30% of games whilst trousered multi 1000s a week. Is that loyalty from us or him? Or is it simply that he had no other option and the previous owners didn’t want to spend large sums so kept a player on the books?
Personally I wouldn’t say anyone was a loyal servant to the club unless: they came here despite better offers or stayed when they could have moved to better options eg Shearer. The rest are employees looking after themselves and their families, no disrespect as its what we all do, but is the loyalty or self-preservation

He is proven, he’s allegedly a top top talent, that is not what is concerning people, it’s his injury record. Starting to bother me now people saying Dummet only played 30% of his games, so what on earth is the point in going through all that again.

Comment #96If we sell Wilson in the summer do we really want to replace him with another striker who will only play 50% of games even if his strike ratio is as good.

Thanks for sharing that article from that Louise Taylor. For a mackem she writes some decent articles about NUFC.
Iām sure Ritchie will get a fantastic send off from us tomorrow. He deserves it as he is a leader and a top professional and has represented himself so well in the time he has been here. He has never let us down as a player and scored many important goals and kicked so many corner flags even into the goolies of one unlucky fan lol.
Aye he may well get the old Magic Hat song sang about him tomorrow. He will always get a warm response from us when he ever comes back. A really good guy, with a cracking personality and character, who turned out to be another good signing from Rafa. Thats a big character we will lose out the dressing room but Iām sure Eddie is working on replacing good characters of Dummett and Ritchie with lads with the same work ethic, professionalism, attitude and leadership. This Lloyd Kelly is a start as apparently he has all those qualities in him.

Comment #98This is taken from a twitter account. This Tony Singla will be good at his job and bend the truth. These are the types of legal representatives who work for the Mob in the USA:
ā Tony Singla, representing Mike cA$hley and Sports Direct who have been in court against Newcastle United has said with a straight face that he believes that Newcastle fansā āalleged dislikeā of Sports Directās majority shareholder Momey Mike was āmassively overstatedā and many bought shirts from the retailer.
Is he having a laugh? Mike Ca$hley is one of the most hated owners in league history! ā
Apart from one person that was once a Geordie but lost that crown a long time ago – Bruceless, there is not one Geordie or member of the toon army worldwide has any respect or nice words for that scumbag Ashley. He was delivered to us from the devil as a lesson as to how Sir Bobby Robson was treated by the club, some players and even some of the supporters, we know the type. There are 2 of them in particular that post shite and bile on here, who are NOT a proper representative of the toon army thatās for sure. on that note I guess it will be just Munster, the lowlife troll, IrishNob squealing into the nether on here tomorrow š

I think you keep missing the point slightly with the Kelly and Dummett scenario.
The difference is that Kelly has been available more than Dummett and we also have other defenders available if Kelly were to get injured.
The point is that when we down to bare bones this season, we needed to call upon Dummett. If we got to that same stage and instead could call upon Kelly, that’s a stronger position for us to be in. That’s the point being made saying he’s an upgrade on Dummett.
Wilson is entirely different because at the moment he’s the only back up striker. So when he’s injured, we only have Isak. So no, the next striker we buy should not be similar injury wise, as it would leave us short in options.
If Kelly got injured a couple times, we would still have good cover. If Wilson or a new striker got injured a couple times, we would not have good cover.
There’s a big difference.

Are you asking if we will go into the season with just Isak as our only recognised striker if Wilson is sold?
IMO after this season that would be a huge no especially if we get Europe,Unless Eddie changes the teams style of play Isak would break down playing 2 games a week for a period of time!

Ah iv reread it & I now get the point you are making!
Discard previous post but Iād agree with what adamn has said, if Kelly replaces Dummet then the squad is stronger but if he was brought in to replace say BDB then given previous injury record that would weaken it!

Comment #108I think Kelly could sideline Hall a bit. He’s far more athletic for a kick off and i would say better defensively. Not as tidy on the ball, and passing isnt as accurate or quick. Could be interesting.

Comment #109Kelly is a direct replacement for Dummett if he is brought in and Dummett leaves. Personally I believe Kelly will be a cracking back up to rotate with BDB at LCB thatās until Botman comes back from injury. He would also be a good option to rotate with Hall who I reckon will be our first choice LB next season as the young lad has really been Eddie Howed and has came of age and will prove to be a huge talent.
Kelly really strengthens our squad and thatās all we want and on a free it ensures monies go into another player we shall bring in. If we also get Tosin thatās unbelievably good business by the club and will ensure that this transfer window will be huge.

Comment #110Very interesting take on Kuol and I really do hope he shows us what he can do – He needs a good loan away this time as the last 2 have been failures unfortunately:
āā Newcastle United will include 19-year old forward Garang Kuol in their squad to face the A-League All Stars in a post-season friendly on the 24th of May.
Itās been a difficult time of late for the young Australian, with two failed loan spells away from Tyneside in recent seasons – but this opportunity gives him a chance to impress on the stage which initially helped him to earn his move to Europe.
This seasonās loan, which saw Kuol shipped out to Dutch strugglers Volendam, was a recipe for disaster from day one. Sending a 19-year old kid to a club bottom of the Eredivisie, who have had 4 different managers in 16 months and sit back with 11 men behind the ball every game, raises huge question marks over those responsible at Newcastle who thought that would be a good fit.
His talent is undeniable – and Iāll stand by that. At the age of just 17, he wowed Barcelona manager Xavi during a friendly against the Spanish giants:
āHe did really well! Seventeen? Maybe heās a big liar! At 17, thatās unbelievableā the BarƧa legend said after that game.
Donāt give up on himāā
